I know that what several of you are saying about urine being clear means you're not dehydrated is *usually* true. But what I experienced was clear urine, going every 15-20 minutes, drinking caffeinated tea all day... and having feet with such painful lumps and ankles puffed as fat as my calves that I could barely walk at all. Drinking water, water, water, and more water, DID NOT FIX IT; it just made me pee MORE. Only coconut water+removing 80% of the caffeine fixed it. Coconut water fixed the electrolyte balance; removing 80% of the caffeine fixed the too-frequent-urination. Now that is down to about hourly, pretty normal for many women; it has a *slightly* yellow color, but not dark at all, and my feet and ankles stay their normal, slender, unpainful selves.

Water is a great fix if you're thirsty. But when the problem goes beyond mere thirst, or even mere dehydration, to electrolyte-balance issues (which usually follow dehydration), then water alone just will not suffice. All it does is keep flushing more and more electrolytes from your body, and that is a SERIOUS problem, which can lead to heart attack. To keep saying 'nope, just water, drink more more more' can easily cause someone in that condition a MAJOR health problem.

Sometimes I work in extreme heat water quenches your thirst so most people wont drink enough water to stay hydrated anyway, Water in conjunction with a electrolyte supplement like gator-aid is the best method for hydration.
I dont think the average vapor runs much of a risk of health threatening dehydration while sitting at home posting on ECF.
If a person has other underlining health issues all bets are off and those people should be asking their doctors whats the best policy not relying on a internet forum for health advice.

If I had taken the problem to my doc, first he would have ordered about a zillion very expensive tests, which I have neither money nor insurance for; then he might have reached for his prescription pad (because that's really all that doctors are good at, or for); finally, as an afterthought, he might have suggested removing caffeine.

Fortunately I happened on the coconut water thanks to comments here at ECF; I discovered the caffeine aspect strictly by accident, because after my surgery and extreme illness, I didn't drink *any* caffeinated tea for several days.

Running to the doctor with every least little thing is a luxury that very few can afford -- even WITH insurance. Those of us without insurance... well, there's the emergency room, where they can't refuse to see you, but then you'll still be stuck with a bill for THOUSANDS that you can't pay. For those of us in that condition, doctors are a last-ditch, life-or-death alternative. For anything short of life-or-death, it's much better to try and resolve the issue yourself.

There use to be a guy in here who told people to drip nic in their eyes to get over cig cravings he was eventually banned
Im glad you found a solution to your problem and certainly researching anything be it internet library ect.... can be a great tool in getting information and making informed decisions and or actions for all sorts of things health related issues included.
I just would not trust any advice that is health related with out verifying threw other sources also.

I agree; someone here in the forum had mentioned coconut water, so I thought I ought to look into it. What I did was compare the nutritional info from "sports drinks" with the nutritional info on coconut water. When I saw the exact opposite of the sodium/potassium balance (coconut water has some sodium, but very little, but has a huge amount of potassium; sports drinks are exactly the reverse), and realized that the sports drinks weren't helping me at all, I thought the coconut water was definitely worth a try -- and it really works.

Yup :)

I used to bike a lot, as in pedal bike. When I was training for a long ride I would ride up to 150 miles a week. Sometimes in temperatures as high as 95 deg F.

When you're doing stuff like that thirst is no help at all. I learned to drink a liter of water every hour and a bit more if it was really hot out or I was really pushing it. Steady, regular mouthfuls all through the ride. At the end of the ride I would judge my hydration by my weight. Water weighs 2.2 pounds per liter. It's impossible to rehydrate as fast as you sweat it out so you are always lighter at the end of a long ride than at the beginning. Keeping it to 4 lbs max loss from a hard ride after a day off always worked well for me. Sometimes I would use a liter of sports drink on a long ride, but mostly I stuck with water. I was of course eating constantly though a ride, which is as important as staying hydrated and also helps hydration and electrolyte replenishment. I found I could not rehydrate all the way back to my max hydration level in one evening no matter how much water I drank so the next day I would start a bit low.

I've read that nicotine intake can mildly encourage dehydration in some people. I know vaping nic irritates my mouth and throat slightly and that can make it feel like I'm a bit dry. The hygroscopic nature of juice is not an issue. Even if someone vapes 20 ml a day and that 20 ml of juice sucks 10 ml of water out of them, look at a 10 ml bottle and ask yourself if loosing that in water would dehydrate someone.

Yes, all bets are most definitely off if someone has medical issues :thumb:

There are many bottled water brands.

Try Evian, its has a silky smooth texture to it.

Or get your self Brita water filter.
My tap water goes through 7 stages of filtration with a whole house system and reverse osmosis under the sink. Then I have an added 8th stage to remineralize. I'm told (and I know) it's the cleanest tasting water most folks have ever tasted.

I still don't drink it...

Makes fantastic coffee though.
