9 pages of answers for the burning question, "What should I drink besides water?"

When is this thread gonna end?

Probably after someone posts about root beer, cream soda or maybe even a good old fashion. Oh wait,,, I just did that. If you are bored with this thread, just do not open it.

My tap water goes through 7 stages of filtration with a whole house system and reverse osmosis under the sink. Then I have an added 8th stage to remineralize. I'm told (and I know) it's the cleanest tasting water most folks have ever tasted.

I still don't drink it...

Makes fantastic coffee though.

We have a whole house system too, but without "remineralize" -- not sure why that is needed; all those bottled waters that say they have "minerals added for taste" just taste like CRAP to me -- it should only taste like WATER. We have very hard water here, and since we got the whole house system, clothes get cleaner, my hair is softer (I have very wiry wavy hair, so it needs all the help it can get!), and I don't get the hard calcium residue on my stainless cookware -- taking those minerals out is a godsend!

I'm just pointing out that realistically, it doesn't belong in "Vaping discussion."

I'll pitch in and say my beverage of choice is cold-brewed coffee. It's easy to make, stays for really long, and it doesn't have some of the acidity of coffee that makes it hard on the stomach in the morning. Get some quality beans and try it out (if you're a coffee-drinker). I like cold beverages year-round (even in the dead of winter). Nothing's more refreshing than the blast of some black cold-brew coffee on ice.

Our DOM is very high from our well.
Our TDS is near zero.
Water with no minerals at all strips the bodys minerals.
It's nature's solvent.

When you start with a TDS below 10ppm and strip it below 2 ppm to get the dom out, for health reasons, it's a good idea to reintroduce a buffer for your body.

I use food grade dolomitic limestone, IIRC. Probably should double check.

Without it, osteoporosis, tooth decay, bowel problems, iron, calcium and magnesium deficiencies could be caused and/or complicated. As well as lethargy, lean muscle loss and quite a few other symptoms/issues related to stripping the body of its macro and micro minerals.

But all in all, it's just a buffer to keep the water from flushing out essential nutrients considering our water is SUPER, SUPER soft BEFORE we strip it to remove organic waste from well critters.

FYI, our water is no different from deionized or distilled water before we remineralize.

NOTHING like your water after a whole house filter or bottled drinking water of any kind.

And it tastes like... water. Remove the minerals and you can taste your own blood when you drink it IMHO.

Yeah, our water is nothing like that. In old houses with white porcelain sinks you can see it, a rust-colored calcium deposit that's damn near impossible to remove without a chisel. I still give my stainless cookware a quick soak in vinegar to remove the "rainbowing" left behind after use, but now it's more of just a discoloration than an actual deposit; before we had the filtration system, I'd have to leave stainless pots soaking in vinegar *overnight* to make the calcified deposits soft enough to scrub off.

I will try the coconut water, regular water is not doing it. My mouth is so dry switching to vaping over regular cigs.

Put it in some juice, if the flavor bothers you. The flavor is so light that juice completely covers it. And you get other good stuff from juice anyway. :thumb:

If I had taken the problem to my doc, first he would have ordered about a zillion very expensive tests, which I have neither money nor insurance for; then he might have reached for his prescription pad (because that's really all that doctors are good at, or for); finally, as an afterthought, he might have suggested removing caffeine.

Fortunately I happened on the coconut water thanks to comments here at ECF; I discovered the caffeine aspect strictly by accident, because after my surgery and extreme illness, I didn't drink *any* caffeinated tea for several days.

Running to the doctor with every least little thing is a luxury that very few can afford -- even WITH insurance. Those of us without insurance... well, there's the emergency room, where they can't refuse to see you, but then you'll still be stuck with a bill for THOUSANDS that you can't pay. For those of us in that condition, doctors are a last-ditch, life-or-death alternative. For anything short of life-or-death, it's much better to try and resolve the issue yourself.

Whenever threads like this come up a bunch of people say, don't come here asking for medical advice. Go see your doctor. I always think, those guys are either rich, or they don't live in America.

And if you have a question that might be related to vaping, like hydration, how many doctors are going to know the answer anyway. If you start vaping and experience a symptom, and vaping causes that symptom, a bunch of folks here will have gone through it and know what to do. At the least it's a good place to start.

It took me a long time to get in the habit of drinking water. I had never done it. Just gallons of coffee. Tap water tasted bad. Bottled water seemed like I was doing something my body was telling me I didn't need to do. I did persevere though and I believe it's good for me. There's a lot of good reasons to drink water apart from vaping.

I completely agree, and I know that I got in that perilous condition because I was already dehydrated when I started vaping; I struggled regularly with the most godawful leg cramps. When I added vaping to that, it was just a perfect storm for my body. Any women going thru the various changes of menopause have to deal with it -- sweating, crying, etc etc etc. And once I got into that condition where my electrolytes were so wonky from dehydration, then just drinking water was never going to fix it, I had to take much sterner measures. But I'd been severely addicted to that 10-cup-a-day tea habit for many years, so it's good that I finally found a good reason to knock it off. I've gone up and down with caffeine intake most of my life, so it's good to be consuming so little of it now.

Have you tried using only 5 stages of filtration?:p

After so many stages of filtration, i can only guess that you are getting distilled water, that even i wouldnt drink it on regular basis. And ive drank water from all kind of sources, including a puddle in the woods when camping.

I said before and ill say again; stay away from sugar based drinks as your main source of hydration. Its not healthy for you at any age.

OK, 97 responses, but I'll put in my two cents anyway.

First -- I don't "drink" water, I chug it down. For anyone who doesn't like the "taste" of water (although I do like my well water), doing that several times during the course of a day will at least keep you hydrated.

We're lucky enough to have a 280' deep well, I've had the water tested, and I drink it straight from the tap, no filtering, no osmosis, etc. It tastes as good as tap water gets, and I feel like well water has minerals I might need. And I don't refrigerate it or add ice. Cold water in a glass or bottle is a pita because it sweats, and ice from a (even filtered) fridge ice-maker always tastes "stale" to me, even with some Jack Black over it. I keep a few Gatorade/orange juice/whatever plastic bottles washed, clean and empty.

First thing in the a.m., I'll chug 12-16 oz. of tap water while washing up, then go get coffee -- caffeinated, black. After the 2nd or 3rd mug of java, I dilute one-to-two tbsp. of red apple cider vinegar with ~6oz. of tap water and shoot that down. (a daily tbsp. or two of vinegar works wonders for many ailments). Later, fill a 16oz. bottle from the tap and chug that. Leaving for work, fill a 28-32 oz. bottle to carry with me... and I don't constantly sip it -- when I feel like it or think I need it, I'll chug some more. Back at home after 5, it's time for a beer or three (I do sip, not chug, those though :D). After supper, chug another 12-16 oz. a few hours before bed. Sleep. Repeat.
(ya reckon I could figure out how to say "chug" one more time?... doh!... just did)
