What is dicetyl and why is it bad?

Just googled it, found this:

Diacetyl gives butter and certain food flavorings a distinctive buttery flavor and aroma. Food flavorings containing diacetyl are used in microwave popcorn and other snack foods, pet foods, candies, baked goods, and other food products.

Diacetyl
DANGER Can cause damage to respiratory tract and lungs if inhaled
Highly flammable
WARNING Can cause eye, skin, nose, and throat irritation

Hi Sharon :) This is from Perfumers Apprentice who sells flavorings. Perfumer's Apprentice
Diacetyl has been linked to 'popcorn workers lung', among other things.
From what I understand, most of the flavor houses for DIY vaping supplies no longer use diacetyl as a component, it's been replaced with chemical(s) that have a very small chance of becoming diacetyl. And of those who still carry it, the flavorings are multi-use, cooking, etc., they (mostly) are labeled as not safe for use in e-liquids.
