I know that!! It means 99.9% effective, which also means it's .1% bloody ineffective.

And the accuracy of the results increases with time and exposure. 10+ years out from the beginning (in the U.S.) we are 95% sure that vaping is better than smoking. It's kind of like placing a percentage on the number of safe drivers. Just because they don't have a wreck doesn't mean they are driving safely. Many drivers are just lucky. :)

Not true at all. Some of us vape 0mg and are addicted solely to the act of smoking and therefore to the act of vaping.
And some of us came to that realization by accident when they suddenly realized they'd been using 0 mg e-juice for 2 weeks without any ill effect lol.

Or could it be interpreted as meaning you will only become 5% ill from vaping whereas smoking is 100% guaranteed to cause illness..... I don't even know what 5% ill means :D It's all meaningless and not really quantifiable until someone can point to a dead body and truthfully say 'this was caused by vaping'*.
*Not including anyone who vapes other than standard e-liquid ingredients

Well, regardless of harm reduction, my wallet has benefitted greatly over the years since I made the switch to the vape .. and, with my current stockpile, my wallet will continue to benefit ..

(Not that harm reduction is not important, but one of my reasons way back when was to save some of the ever escalating costs of a carton of Marlboros ..)

I can't say, is there a study .. ?? :p

I can say... I spent 335 dollars the first year I vaped on all my vaping supplies, including ejuice. Yes, I actually added it up... lol

A carton of Marlboro was 55 dollars here at that time... although by the time i switched to vaping I was smoking L&M's at 42 dollars a carton, and I smoked 2 cartons a week...

I personally saved a TON of money.. the savings was a positive incentive for me in the beginning, because I was holding back what I would have spent on smoking and used it to buy myself "not smoking" rewards.. I got a lot of stuff I wouldn't have otherwise been able to afford.. was cool.

The phrase has been used by offical bodies such as Public Health England in their reports and papers. They are a Government funded official body.

It is a best estimate on the information currently availabale.

As a retired career Civil Servant I am aware that very little can be guaranteed, apart from the oft quoted "Death and Taxes" and at this stage, as regards vaping, there are many many years of data yet to be collected before anything more definitive can be said.

Personally it's not an expression, or form of words, that I waste a lot of brain cells worrying about. YMMV.

Many years ago I was able to quit smoking very soon after starting to vape. I still haven't smoked a cigarette since I decided to let the vape take away the cigs in 2010. I never looked back. I've told my story about how I used to see hazy areas on routine X-rays and CT scans done during routine doctor visits. Those went away in the first couple of years I vaped.

That leaves PG and VG, and of course flavors that could cause medical issues, but there's always a risk, even if it's just walking downtown daily and sucking up auto and bus fumes. Clean air is the best, but we are all exposed to many less than optimal chemicals every day in the air we breathe.

Man, I haven’t logged in here in YEARS, but I still remember your screen name. We were all 2010 newbies together! SAME boat as you friend…..I will be 11 years smoke free as of 8-22-21. Zero cigarettes have touched my lips since that date in 2010. I still make my own liquid, 4mg nic levels and I have been at that level for years now. I was telling my husband what an adventure vaping was in the early days, and it made me decide to check out the forum again to see how people were doin. Glad were on the 11 year track still! We’re the renegades of the cig alike batteries and set voltages and who knew wattage existed and everyone wants a provari and LR carto’s were the best invention ever!

On the subject of costs, my vaping expenditures to date (9.55 years) equals exactly 37% of what I would have spent on cigs. To get it that high though, required truly gluttonous purchases, and enough of literally everything (including juice requirements) to last well past my eventual demise. That's also supporting four total vapers while the (compared) tobacco cost was for just two.

If I'd been even mildly frugal I expect that 37% number would be more like 5-10%.

My first four months vaping ended up costing me more than cigs would have, but that quickly changed once I found my (OLD VAPING TERM ALERT! >>>) "Sweet spot."

Point being, it can (should?) cost significantly less to vape than it does to smoke.

Volts taste better. :pervy:
