What is the squishy thing in my atomizer? or, Why does my vape seem clogged?

By atomizer I'm referring to the conical part that heats up. There seems to be something in it, something squishy, it's visible when I remove the part that holds the juice, and I'm not sure if this is an actual part or some kind of congealed juice buildup. I've also notice that the vaporizer seems to be clogged, sometimes it takes me longer to draw in a hit, then it kind of "pops" and works normally. I think whatever the squishy thing is is the cause of the clogging, but I'm afraid to remove it as I'm not sure if it's a necessary part and can't find any information on it.

So: what is the squishy thing, and can I remove it?

Very sorry for the extremely vague wording, I just started vaping 3 days ago (and already am disgusted by cigarettes and quit with no problem!) and don't know what any of the parts are called. If anyone can tell me the terminology for the parts I'm referring to, I would appreciate it, I haven't had time to look them up.

I'm using a VaporFi pro.

The "squishy thing" is your coil, and yes, it is necessary. There should be a silicone grommet on the chimney - the metal part that sticks up on the coil. You should be able to see parts of the wick sticking out of the sides of the coil.

Depending on how much you are vaping, the pg/vg ratio of your eliquid, and if your eliquid is dark and/or sweet, you may need to put a new coil in. This is very easy to do. Just unscrew the old coil and screw the new one in. You don't want to screw the new coil in so tight that you can't get it off again, but it should be firmly screwed in so as to create a seal to protect your battery from leakage.

The battery should not be overtightened onto the tank. Don't forget to shake the bottle of eliquid every time you fill or top off your tank.
