Hi, while reading up on the e-cig i came across the warning about who shouldn't use the e-cig, it was children, breast feeding women etc and there was also a warning for people taking meds for depression, i have been searching without much success about what the danger could be. Does anyone know why this warning is included and what possible dangers that can arise from taking the meds and using the e-cigs?
The only thing i have come across mentions MAOS but not SSRI's, which i am more concerned about.

Thanks.

There areno MAOS inthee-juise like thereare in anologes, Some haveto use snus or something to get them when they put the anologes down. So if you take MAOs and stop cigs it is lowering your dosage, I didn't have any probs and I take ssri but every one is diff so pay attention to your mood and depression. Obviously the other warnings are because it has NIC and we don't want kids addicted to it or hurting them selves.

Well, obviously, children and breast feeding or pregnant women shouldn't smoke. Nicotine is addictive and therefore, only adults who already smoke should be using e-ciggs. As for the not using when taking anti-depressants, I'm not sure. I know years ago my husband was prescribed wellbutrin to help him quit drinking and was told he shouldn't smoke while taking it. He did anyway. When I was pregnant, I was prescribed wellbutrin to help me quit smoking, which it did help. I was not told I could not smoke while taking it but the point was that I was pregnant and had to stop anyway. The only thing eciggs and tobacco cigarettes have in common is nicotine.

Yes, I think this is the correct answer. People generally are not aware of what's in the cigarettes they are smoking - I think many would be surprised to discover that they've been taking MAOI's whenever they light one up.

If you quit smoking in any way (including switching to e-cigs) then you are quitting a drug for depression and should let your doctor know what you are doing - particularly if you are currently taking ANY medications, but especially anti-depressants.

I realize this may not be socially unacceptable, but what about children vaping 0 nic juices? For that matter, perhaps some of them already do.

The term socially unacceptable differs a lot from location to location. I think in the US, a person would probably face jail time, fines, probation, and possibly lose their kids (depending on the rest of the situation, of course).

However, beyond any social stigma - I think that would be a bad idea. This is a device designed to save the lives of smokers who either can not or will not quit smoking. It's actually intentionally designed to mimic one of humanity's deadly addictions. I would not want to take the risk that the kid might think it's fun. I also wouldn't let my kids shoot up anything - even if it was a proven safe liquid.

I don't want them to think it's acceptable and cool, I want them to know that it's my addiction made safer through modern technology.

Another +1 to a great response. Introducing vaping to children -- even zero nic juice -- would be a very bad idea indeed.

Thanks for the replies.
I am still unsure whether to continue using my e-cig, i guess i will make an appointment with my doc.

Thats the smartest thing to do...although not all doctors know about E-cigs...you may have to educate him or her...also tell them the mg
& how many ml's you use per day...Good luck Stan!!

Just like has been stated here before me: Analogs contain MAOIs and eliquid does not, when my doc first put me on anti-depressants he told me I should not try to quit smoking, at least until my med levels were stabilized. That's really the fear, if you're just going onto meds, you may not think they're doing anything because they're really just making up for the MAOIs you're loosing from not smoking. Basically, you may need to adjust your med levels (not on your own, with your doctor, obviously) to make up for the anti-depressants you're not getting from cigs anymore.... As always: I am not a doctor, I do recommend speaking to your doctor before starting or stopping anything that may interact with your prescriptions. Personally, I wouldn't let it stop me from vaping unless I noticed a difference, and even then, I would TELL my doctor I quit smoking and am using a PV (possibly having to explain what it is/does), and talk to them about adjusting my meds, going back to analogs being a non-option.
