Actually, I thought the way they handled the replacement was hilarious. If I recall the original popped in at least once and they made a joke out of having both in the same shot. (And of course she ended up coming back.) Roseanne had its ups and downs, but wonderful writing at its best.

And each of the characters, at different times, said to the original Becky --

"Where the hell have you been?" Funny stuff.

Fav all-time --

SOAP

I love everything eveyone else has named. All great stuff.

I watch too much T.V.!! I still watch Friends re-runs every night.

Joey (watching old videos of Monica): Some girl ate Monica!!!
Monica: Shut up, the camera adds 10 pounds.
Chandler: So how many cameras are actually on you?

2 posts above yours. =)

SOAP was the only sitcom I ever remember where people talked about it at work the next day -- at the proverbial water coolers. We spoke of it as if it was a, well, a soap opera, trying to guess plot lines and such. =)

Remember Burt's wife (Mary, maybe?) getting knocked up by the alien?

"Doctor, my son does odd things"
"Everybody thinks their kids do odd things. What does your son do."
"But, Doctor -- he <pause> ... ummm, he flies"

LOL

Loved Mr. Belevedere as a kid, and never figured out why. When they put it out on DVD and I heard the hateful, spiteful stuff the creators had to say about it, and that they wrote it to be subversive on purpose, I fell in love with it even more.

As for modern sitcoms, How I Met Your Mother and Modern Family are my faves right now.

It's real hard to beat the old CBS Saturday night lineup from the 70's:

All in the Family
M.A.S.H.
The Mary Tyler Moore Show
The Bob Newhart Show
The Carol Burnett Show

It's funny you should mention that. Since I grew up in the 70's, when I read this I thought of my childhood home. Which coincidentally, is right next door to you. I grew up in Mendota Heights.

I loved a lot of the older sitcoms I see mentioned here. One I haven't seen mentioned yet is "Coach." That was one show that the whole family enjoyed and would gather together to watch. I still miss it.

I always got a kick out of that show, too - Jerry Van .... put me on the floor. I remember many years ago a friend's father worked at a nightclub where they often had comics appearing, like Morrie Amsterdam, Pat Paulsen, Jerry Van ...., etc. - it was always a treat to go see them.

I see you're soon escaping to AZ, lucky dawg - you'll miss those 6 nice days we have here every year in the Great White North ;-)
