Some people like the look of polished wood, especially walnut and oak. Wood, being a non-conductor, makes a good case for an ecig mod. You don't have to worry about a metal case shorting the battery and causing a meltdown. Oils from the hands give wood a special patina that comes from handling and use, provided the final finish allows the body oils to penetrate.

I've never personally owned a wood box mod yet but have a great admiration for them. I personally look at the build quality and the types of wood used. The nicer wooden box mods use exotic hardwoods sometimes constructed from a single piece, some with ornate inlays. Another popular option is to incorporate a juice feeding system and, of course, variable voltage. Check out Red Sky Mods and Sweet Vapes if you haven't already. They're just a couple of examples of sites that offer exceptionally nice products.

It's a complex set of mixed factors that atracts people to wood mods.. it's the feel they have when you hold and use them, it's how each is unique even if they are made of the same wood, no two grains on wood are the same, they have a certain appeal to people that want something different, to suit their taste.

Are they considering regular mods (a battery in a box), or bottom-feeders with a sealed feed system? The latter will probably sell very well - I gather that some of the suppliers here that make bottom-feeding wood mods can't keep up with the demand.
The main selling point of these mods for me is that they work very well, are low-maintenance, and are also beautiful.

For me the main reason I buy box mods is bottom feeding, I love the taste, I've tried just about every carto, tank, and feed system, nothing tastes as good as direct drip except a bottom feeder :)

Why wood? Well only VV Bottom feeding box mods I've found have been wood, least any one I would trust... I'm a proud owner of 2 box mods at the moment, The Ali Custom mod (no longer made by R&R) and just got my replacement for it today a VV Power Grip Feeder from sweetvapes.com

I do agree with dordas23 though, if you make a bottom feeding box mod, you'll probably have more biz then you can handle throw VV into the mix and you'll have to make a waiting list. I ordered that replacement grip feeder in 10/6/2011, was told I had an 8 week wait. I just got it today 2/9/2012...

If you could figure out how to put the micro-processing power and functionality from the Provari, into a bottom feeding box mod, I'd be on the waiting list for 2!

If you can manage to make a good quality wooden tube mod... Instead of a box, you will have tons of orders. I see a lot of people looking for wooden tube mods.

I agree with this, a well crafted wooden tube mod would be something special. Plus, I'm not like to ever buy a box mod, no matter what material it is made of.

I am working on my own box design .What I like about wood is its beautiful. What I like about wood box mods is they are beautiful and they will hold anything you want inside. My box is going to have plenty of room for the feed system and a vv controller .When the Kick is released to the public I want one ,I am allowing for it in the design . Wood and acrylic go really well together and thats something we just MIGHT see in the near future.

I have thought about the wood tube mod for a while now myself. I have looked at some really nice blanks of exotic wood and I can see that a lathe would do a fine job shaping the outside and even hollowing the center to make the battery compartment .But what I wonder is should I build it with the tube threaded in the middle so you can just twist it apart like my bullet?
Or would it be better to have it load from the bottom with a end cap like the Helix? Making the tube is simple. I have been trying to think of a way that it would be a two piece unit that is tooled to slide together in the middle ,and have magnets that hold the two together built in to the sleeve.

I think my apreciation for wooden mods is the conection to somethin real. There is a stange effect of switching from real tobacco to metal and buttons. I always loved the feel of a cigar in my hand. I always felt I would love the feel of a wooden mod as well. I think there is also a craftmanship effect, like a well made pipe.

Speaking personally...

While I love my ProVari, I've found that I really like using tanks. No leaks, easy to see when you need to refill, and with a Boge carto, I don't have to tip my device when the juice level is getting low, to make sure I don't get a burnt draw!

That being said, when I put a tank on my ProVari, it is long! Almost too long to carry around in a shirt pocket, and I'm not comfortable with putting it in my pants pocket, with a tank on top.

For that reason, about a month ago I purchased a MadVapes VV box mod, with indicator. Inexpensive, but it works great! AND... it goes in my shirt pocket, even with a tank on top, and isn't much taller then a pack of cigarettes, and it's lighter and narrower.

When I began vapping, over two years ago, I wanted something that LOOKED like an analog cigarette! I went with an eGo.

Shortly thereafter, I realized I'm NOT smoking an analog, and don't want/need it to LOOK like an analog cig.

Since getting my MadVapes box, I've now ordered a beautiful, variable voltage box mod made from walnut, and another box mod.

There's just something about holding a handcrafted, stained and lacquered wood mod! There's something beautiful about it! There's also something about HOLDING It! I find it much more comfortable to hold then a tube, but again, that's me.

If I like 'em as much as I think I will (had an Ali'i which I loved, but it wasn't a variable voltage device, currently a "must have" for me), my ProVari may soon be in the classifieds.

There was someone who showed a box mod that had the carto and tank inside the box, it was a DIY one of a kind, if someone produced something like that I would be possibly interested. Personally I think tanks look mismatched and awkward on boxes, which is my only particular aversion to the combo.
