....don't mix up a "witches brew" of cleaning products in hope of cleaning up a GGTS; the results can be catastrophic; both for the GGTS and the person mixing chemicals. I'm posting the pics to caution anyone who is looking to clean/restore a GGTS to be careful. We all make mistakes along the way so the owner will remain anonymous

It was a mess.

The only major part that could not be salvaged and restored is the mouthpiece. I had to sacrifice it to save the AVS top ring.

Works perfectly; just doesn't look perfect and is ready to head back to Europe and a long life of enjoyment.

Man, that is scary, if it can do that to metal imagine what it could do to your skin or lungs. A few years ago, someone I know poured a couple of very common household cleaning products down the drain and what he unknowingly created is very similar to a compound used in chemical warfare that is potentially fatal but even if it doesnt kill you, even a small amount of contact is not pretty. Like you said, mistakes can be made and its a good thing no one was hurt.
Amazing restoration job, you brought that thing back from beyond the grave

That was what I was thinking when I saw this post. Had some teenager do that in a store one time. Had to hold my breath and kick it out the back kitchen door. BAD...BAD...DEAL!
Fine time to add that YOU DO NOT MIX BLEACH AND AMMONIA TOGETHER, PEOPLE!!

The odorless gas produced can and will collapse your lungs and IF you live, you will wish you didn't.

Very good job on the restore Para! :)

That version 1 was looking pretty sad before the makeover.

If I had to guess, bleach + amonia in that toxic mix. Among the fun things produced in that assumed mix is hydrochloric acid, chloramine, and hydrazine.. none of which are particularly kind to metals.

Stick to Flitz, et al.. guys in lab coats have tested it ;)
