I will vape in public, but tend to be discrete about it. If I'm in a store and no one else is in that particular isle I'll take a couple of quick puffs. Out side I just puff away and get some funny strange looks from people. I get a kick out of it though.

If I'm in a restaurant or coffee shop, I generally do ask first, but I've yet to get a No. If I'm in the grocery store or Meijer or somewhere and I need a pull, I take one or two and have done. I have gotten a few weird looks, but that's all. At work, my company has a decent about of vapers ( I'd say six-8 spread out across the US.) and they are kind enough to let us vape inside, so we are very, very lucky there!
I've been vaping for about six months now. I commonly get curious glares from strangers on the street as I'm happily vaping while walking somewhere, but I've never been approached by anyone because of it yet.
When I go to a (smoking) pub or bar with friends who haven't seen me vape yet, they usually eyeball me for a while as I suck on this black stick with a colourful translucent end on it (read: 1 Ah eGo battery with a mini Vivi Nova), see me exhale a cloud of vapour and they make the connection very easily then. Their reaction usually goes like, Oh, that's an e-cig, right? Cool. So, what flavour have you got in it? possibly followed by a Can I take a puff? from my smoker friends.
When I was starting with this, I also was a little nervous about having to explain everything to everyone (I'm a shy kind of person, and I don't like explaining my habbits very much), but it appears that people are fairly aware of the existence of PVs over here.
I also started noticing other vapers on the streets as I started vaping myself I swear I had never seen them before buying my first kit, and then they just popped out of nowhere!

I vape everywhere: grocery store, coffee shop, airport, pub... No one has ever said anything to me.
