WHAT THE VAPE ARE THESE?

Hey all. been checking out coil porn this morning.. I have seen these two types of coils and would like to know more about them.

the first one seems like there using something to bridge the negative posts. Does anyone know what type of wire they use to bridge?

the second type reminds me of some type of Electronics component I used to see when tearing stuff apart when I was younger hehe

this one looks like it was wrapped with ribbon

any help would be appreciated!

I will hazard a guess.

The bridge wire could be a paper clip, but it could also be any non-TC wire type in a very fat gauge. Also, SS can be used in both VW and TC Modes. Since both sides of the bridge wire are grounded, with the coils terminated to it, SS wire could be used, but Kanthal A1 or NiChrome 80 would be better. The fat gauge of Kanthal, NiChrome, or SS would have a very low resistance, and being grounded on both ends should make either a viable choice. But since the Ohms of Kanthal and NiChrome remain nearly constant as the Temp rises, they would be my best guess (if it's not something like a paper clip). The Heat would be generated in the two Coils, and the legs grounded to the bridge wire should not glow... and neither should the bridge wire.

Yes, it looks like two transformers, or two Inductors (Chokes). But the inner material could not be a wire for the case of Inductors. It could be a ferrous metal.

Looks like maybe 0.5mm x 0.1mm Kanthal A1 Ribbon wire, or maybe 0.4mm x 0.1mm or 0.3mm x 0.1mm (if 0.3mm x 0.1mm exists)

Of our vape wires, the bridge and inner wires could be any SS wire. Or it could be Kanthal A1, NiChrome 80, or even Niobium... the three lowest Ohm non-TC resistance wires; according to Steam Engine.

Bridge wire considerations...

Length of wire needed for a 1.0Ω coil, using 28g for each wire type:

55.8mm of Kanthal A1
55.6mm of Niobium
74.3mm of NiChrome 80
100.0mm of SS 317L
113.6mm of SS 304
105.0mm of SS 316
108.0mm of SS 316L
108.5mm of SS 321
135.0mm of SS 430

Needing more wire to make 1.0Ω means that Kanthal A1 has 2.42 times the Ohms/inch than SS 430 has. NiChrome has the longest length required of Kanthal, Niobium, and NiChrome 80 (in that order), so NiChrome 80 would be the best choice of all out vape wires, with the lowest Ohms/inch of those three. But SS 430 has the lowest Ohms/inch. A Fat SS 430 may be best.

The coil wires could be anything.

NOTE:
These builds could also be using any of the various TC wires. I have also seen Ribbon wire in TC types, but don't ask me where. The comments above are for either VW or Mech vaping. In the case of two TC coils for the first picture, NiChrome, Niobium, or Kanthal would still be great choices for the bridge wire.

NOTE:
There is no TFR/TCR/TC Data for Niobium on Steam Engine. However, this does not necessarily mean that it is not a TC wire. It simply may not have been analyzed yet.

Comment:
Whoever built these coils has a lot of patience! Great work! :toast:

They were a little fiddly to make but not to bad, kind of enjoyed it :)
YOU SIR... ARE A BOSS lol nice build tho, what did you use for the bridge? guage/alloy? ive only got 24g and 30g kanthal atm all the rest of the wire I have is TC. 26g Ti and 28g Ni200. I did see a paperclip in the car tho... hmmm

A paperclip hehehee.(i'm pretty sure that even wire from a coat hanger is thinner than 20g, let alone 18g, just so you kno)

i used 18g kanthal and 24g SS430, but 20g will be okay as the bridge. :)
And Thanks :D

EDIT: I wouldnt see why you can twist some wires together to make something thick enough for the bridge part, come to think of it why not do that and make the coils twisted aswell !? LOL

i'm sort of toying with the idea of doing the other build that doesnt show the coils glowing.

this pic is of a cool down, its easier to get than the fireup but it glowed the same either way although it did take a long time to get the shorts out, i also put a pic of some shorts.
i used 5wrap 22g n80 with 28ga1kanthal wrap, the 22g was wrapped on a 3mm id before adding the outer wrap and comes out to 0.19ohms as it would without the wrap.

Where are you getting ss430 in gauges other than 28g? That's all I've seen.
