Tips for a new electronic cigarette user...

--You MUST have at least two batteries to start with
--There is no such thing as a juice that tastes like a cigarette
--vaping dehydrates you so drink lots and lots of water
--Only buy sample sizes of juice until you find some that you like
--If you don't like a juice, let it sit for a few weeks and try it again before tossing it
--Don't feel bad if you have a smoke because this is not a race, and you'll get there if you keep going
--There is no vaping problem that can't be solved, and as long as you ask you will get help
--vaping is different than smoking, and a longer, slower drag is more efficient
--Buying from a mall kiosk, liquor store, or tobacco shop is usually a waste of money
--When you find the right setup, right nicotine strength, and juices you like, it usually becomes easy
--Generally speaking, it gets easier and easier every day

And the final tip is don't ever call it "smoke" because there is no smoke here.
That is the whole and entire point of what we do.
:)

Both PG and VG - that comprises the major portion of eliquid - are humectants.

as to Ovale, I can't speak for those myself. What I would recommend as you are a 30 per day smoker is the eGo 650 Twist battery x 2 + 2 wall chargers (vaping doesn't work well if your charger packs up), kanger clearomizers (preferably at 2.2. -2.4 ohms) and a sampler pack of juice from Want2Vape for the tobacco/cigar flavors, a sampler pack of juice from Heathers Heavenly Vapes (particularly Gandalf and Huntsman) for fruit flavours and teas = Ahlusion, Virgin Vapor or Rawr, alice in Vapeland.

Sample sizes or 5-6 ml sizes only till a couple really ring your bells and say "YES!!!!!" WOW! This is good. How to vape - think of grandpop sitting out in the sun on sunday afternoon puffing his pipe. a couple of long slow draws, hold in mouth, inhale slowly and then exhale through nose.

Nicotine strenth may need to be 30 mgs, or 24 mgs for you to start. Use the lightest concentration in the evening, the highest when you most "want a cigarette" moments. If you must have a cigarette then have a cigarette - count the number you didn't smoke. Some quit immediately - others take their time about it (myself included).

Its OK to vape all day. If your head spins and/or you get nauseous, you're getting too much nicotine. Reduce the mg when you order I'd also recommend getting 70/30 PG/VG ratio for your juice to start. If the hit is too harsh and makes you cough, then go to a lower PG ratio or even 100% VG. And Yes. Drink lots of water. As someone else said, dehydration is no fun. Most vendors offer various ratios of PG/VG for their juices and various levels of nicotine in drop down bars when you get to the specific flacor that you'd like to add to your basket.

Let us know how you fare. Congratulations on wanting to give vaping a try.

Hi,

I have Ovale Elips x 1 and Ovale Ego-C x 2
Both are great products aspecially Ovale Elips.
BUT
Ego-C leaks amazing and tired of rinse and clean. (not talking about condensation of liquid. It leaks.)
Elips is more practical but has a small battery which is 350mah. Sadly, elips is leaking too.

Try "Biansi iMist". I'm so happy with it. Hard to find in US but can be found in Europe easily.
Stay away from products that leak. Because you will never now exactly how much you vape with those. And cleaning all the time, ehh!..

hope this helps, just my two cents.

cheers

LOTS of great advice. I'll add my only :2c:, surprised no one said this already...

RESEARCH, RESEARCH, RESEARCH!

Different equipment and juices have will different reviews/experiences from different people.
Find out what will work for YOUR needs.

Look up Youtube videos on procedures, equipment, etc and read ECF and learn from the vast pool of knowledge here until you can't read anymore!

I'm almost 2 weeks in.

1. THE best advice I read on these forums when I was first starting (and I started with a cigarette lookalike from Volcano) was to not puff/inhale on it the same way you do a cigarette. Take a longer, slower pull, draw the vapor into your mouth, then inhale it. It's something to do with pulling the liquid over the atomizer. If you take a fast, easy pull like you normally do on a regular cigarette, the liquid doesn't have time to vaporize correctly. I have a few friends who tried quitting using ecigs and when I told them this, they said, "Ohhhh...maybe THAT'S why it wasn't working for me..." They're going to try again:)

2. The main problem I had with the cig-lookalike was that the battery would start to diminish after about the first 10 puffs, and I wasn't getting a substantial enough hit from it and I found myself tempted to buy some cigarettes. (I was determined NOT to, so I didn't). I went out the first week and bought an eGo kit with 650mah batteries and some higher nicotine juice and I haven't had a problem since.

3. If you start with a cig-lookalike, buy a few packs of cartridges in flavors you think you'll like and try different levels of nicotine - I found 18mg to be just right for me, and 8mg was way too low. I was a pack a day smoker - sometimes a little more, sometimes a little less.

4. Read around on these forums, especially the Newbies Forum. It can be confusing and a bit daunting sometimes because there is SO much information, but you WILL learn a lot. When I decided the cig lookalike wasn't working for me, I went to the "Picture of Your Setup" thread, found a few that I liked the looks of that seemed simple to set up and use and not overly expensive, went online and ordered what I needed.

5. Read this thread: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/health-safety-e-smoking/3305-list-symptoms-when-quitting-tobacco-changing-ecigarette.html]List of symptoms when quitting tobacco and changing to ecigs Remember that your body's going to be recovering from all that tar and other chemicals, so some things you experience may be from that and not necessarily from vaping, so don't give up too soon.

6. Don't beat yourself up if you have a smoke. I had 6 cigs left when I got my Volcanos in the mail, and (especially with the price of cigarettes today), I smoked them 'til they were gone. A lot of people on here seem to start out by vaping and still smoking, but they end up cutting down quite a bit. Just remember all the cigs you're NOT smoking!!

Most important, don't be afraid to ask questions in the forums. This is by far the largest and most active, not to mention most INFORMATIVE, e-cig community on the interwebs!

Good luck!!

Not beating yourself up for being "weak" and having an analog cig is really huge. Some people, like my mother, adjust instantly. She hasn't touched a cig since last Saturday, the day she started vaping.

My adjustment is slower and I'm still playing with nic levels (I'm trying 22 mg/ml now). Smoking fell 80% the first day, and I'm now averaging 4 to 5 per day tops. Since that's a 92% reduction, I'm not exactly beating myself up over it. Quite the opposite. Neither is my husband, where the watchwords around here are, "I'm extremely proud of you!"

The time between cigs has slowly risen over the last two weeks as well, from about 2 hours to over 4 hours.

The result? About 700 cigarettes not smoked. I don't consider that a failure, it's a smashing success so far! If it takes me a month or three to fully adjust to vaping, so be it. I'm still better off than I was smoking.

And you will be, too, no matter how much smoking you cut. Your body will let you know if you need more nic.

I did find WTA (Whole Tobacco Alkaloids) helped as well, but that's something to try after you start with vaping for a while, and only if you find that you have trouble cutting down.

I was going to go with the high nic juice but i decided to go with the medium juice, about 18 mg, hope that's enough....

Everybody differs. Mom was at a pack of Newports per day, 1.7 mg nic per cig, or 34 mg per day. I was smoking 2 1/2 packs of Now menthol, 0.1 mg per cig, or 5.5 mg per day (so they claim, anyway).

Mom does very well on 12 mg/ml liquid. Right now I'm at 22 mg/ml and doing OK but I wouldn't say perfect. My next batch will probably be adjusted to 24 mg/ml.

If you find you like a flavor but the 18 isn't doing it for you, you can probably buy 24 mg/ml or 36 mg/ml bottles of the stuff and proportionately mix it to whatever nic level you need.

Day number 15 for me. When I started vaping I just bought kits that had large capaciticy batteries so I wouldn't have to worry about it going dead. When I wanted a analog I smoked an analog. As of Today I haven't really noticed but I have not even wanted an analog. When I did get the urge to smoke I took the advice I've learned here and would make myself vape first. You'll be surprised at the results. Don't give up. ECF helped me with a lot and I WAS a 2-3 pack a day person.
