Haven't tried the rayon yet but I use organic cotton from Vitamin Cottage or Natural Grocers, whatever it's called now. You can get a lot for a little. Great flavor and usually last for around 5-6 big clouds.

My all time favorite is cotton but not just any cotton - Koh Gen Do Japanese organic cotton.

It is very different from any ball type cotton because it's in a pad shape and the fibers all run in one direction so you simply trim off the width and length you want with the grain.
It's pretty much fool proof - if you taste any cotton, even on the first hit, your wick is too thick.

Anyone have a link for decent priced rayon? Only thing I found so far was 6lbs (2k-4k balls) for $30 and Im not quite ready to buy 5 years worth of wicking material lol
Rayon!!! I just got it from Sally's Beauty supply today and I was skeptical at first. I've been 100% Organic cotton for a while and I will now never use anything else.
Using a KFL+ on a copperbond Atomo that hits hard. My results were...
Comparing it to organic cotton with a melon juice, it mellowed out the candy flavor and I could taste more of the three melon notes.
Harshness I was getting is gone completely.
Before with a 20pg/80pg blend I could only take 2-3 second draws before I dry burn the cotton (which I would see burn marks later). I can not dry burn the rayon.
The heat is still there, but some what different because it improved airflow.
I was getting poor vapor with the same juice and cotton. Now I can take larger draws and lots more vapor... I mean LOTS!
Easier to build and wick. Shove it through the coil so you have shoulders on either side, cut and stuff. Carefully pack it away from the juice channels and your golden.
Honestly... it's f...n incredible.
Other benefits if you read the post that was started, it will not dry burn, it doesn't gunk up as quick, and you don't have to rebuild as much.
If anybody wants to try it without buying a lifetime supply... PM me and I can help a fellow vaper out.

So far, I prefer organic cut cotton pads from Muji.com. I think it's the same, or similar to the KoGenDo pads, but it's $2.50 per bag of 140 pads at Muji.com. $5.00 shipping brings it to $7.50, but it arrives within days from Japan, is in stock last I check, and is still a couple dollars cheaper. You can also buy it from Amazon, but they seem to be selling it for $11 there.
I've tried everything, and CelluCotton Rayon Beauty Coil is it for me! Unless someone discovers this stuff is worse for you than analogs, I won't be wicking with anything else.
Although, I never really gave SS mesh much of a chance, so for all I know, I might like it better if I got any good with it.

I am in the same boat as you. Since it's almost impossible to dry it Cellucotton, I think the risk are low. For now that is what I am sticking with and we'll keep the debate and discussion in that thread.

Although I bought the Graham "Cellucotton" 100% rayon coils from a local Sally's beauty supply shop. This shop only had the large boxes in stock, so I ended up with at least a 50 year supply, but at least it was only $16. The smaller box would have been $11 if they had it in stock.

Right now cotton is top dog for me, but I am waiting on an order of several different fibers to try out, including Rayon.
Hi there, I've tried silica, 100% organic non bleached cotton, ekowool, stainless steel mesh, and sterile cotton. Out of those I've tried I get the very best vapor and flavor out of the sterile cotton and organic unbleached cotton, the sterile cotton being my favorite. My very least favorite I must say, is the stainless steel mesh, as I think it gives a slightly strange taste but that's just my opinion. I suggest you get several samples of wicking material and try them each out so you can draw your own opinion. It's a very subjective thing, what I like and think is best, your might not like at all. So the very best thing to do is to try several different materials and see which suits your personal taste. For me, the sterile cotton gives a clean flavor and produces a thick dense vapor and that's why I love it! It's super absorbable and I don't get any dry hits with it. Hope this helps. Best wishes
Same here, m8! $3.50 for what's probably a lifetime of wicks does the trick.
IMHO, the taste is so much better silica. I replace my cotton wicks every other day, or when the flavor/vapor production starts dropping off, and it only takes a min. or two.
With cotton I used to vape Boba's Bounty 2, maybe 3 days. With Rayon I vaped 8 days before the coils gunked up and the vapor production deminished! (about 5ml/day @ 20watts regulated)
I was in the same exact position just a week ago - bought my first RDA, an iGo-W and some 30ga Kanthal.
Started using organic cotton from the local drug store chain (Organic, but hydrogen peroxide used in the whitening process), but it did indeed have a cotton taste for a little while after. Started researching an alternative, and cleaner cotton, and discovered Koh Gen Do, but couldn't find it in stock anywhere at all. After a little more digging, found Shiseido cotton, which is working out fantastically. No cotton taste, and it's organic, unbleached and untreated. Good stuff. Picked up mine at Macy's for like 9 bucks -- enough to last a _LONG_ time.
My building still sucks tho! Heh. 1/16 bit, 32ga Kanthal, 1.67 ohms.

Since I started vaping DIY eJuice, I don't have an issue with coils getting gunked up, at least not to the point that a dry burn won't fix. As much I've been reading about Rayon wicks, I might try that someday. For now I'm as pleased as punch with organic cotton. As for replacing my cotton wicks every other day or so, I consider that as just a maintenance thing which cannot be avoided, no matter what it is. Just my

) If you're DIY juice is easy on wicks/coils, you might get 2 WEEKS out of a Rayon wick!
