Knowing what I know now, I would recommend the mid-level Ego style batteries. But it depends upon how insistant the new vapor needs their first device to look like an analog.

When I first started vaping, I got a 808 kit because anything else looked too big. It only took a couple of weeks before I was tired of changing batteries every 3 hours, and got a couple of mid-level, ego type batteries. I no longer cared how big these PV's were. Ok for about 3 weeks, but still wasn't satisfied with the battery life or juice capacity.

After just a little more than a month, I jumped to a BB and Silver Bullet mod, each equipped with DCT tanks. I can live with this.

Almost four months into vaping I'm looking into variable voltage...

As a noob who had a funds issue, I personally very much enjoy the 808 automatic pocket-pack I got. Only $20 bucks and an easy, satisfying starter for me (coming from a pack/pack and a half RYO habit). I also got a V2 808 manual given to me for free with the pocket pack and I really love it too, but I'm sure that one was at least a bit pricier.

I think a lot of people that try to get into it want something that is the closest to smoking a cig. I know I did. I went the V2 route, but if that's the kind they want I would recommend the Volt or Bloog. They seem like the best. However, I quickly got over needing a cig looking mod and went to the eGo Twist and loved it. If I could talk them into it I would tell them to get an eGo. I think it is the perfect entry level mod.

I'd recommend they get a 901 some LR attys, menthol eliquid - oh and a passthrough. That's pretty much it :) Tank systems are a faff and the only thing they are better for is long lasting battery. Every newbie should learn how to drip immediately, maybe even invest in a drip tip. My trusty old 901 is still my goto at home vape. My modded EgoT is my carry round device though :)

The reason I didn't suggest a pen style is because I started on a crap cig look alike and the cartridges were filled with crap. I'm against the normal cartos since they are high maintenance and if they're out for any length of time they'll have to carry a bottle and top off. That's why I suggest a tank that can go for some decent hours, and it has to be one that doesn't require a syringe, etc, so doing like I do and carrying a few CE3s is out.

The EGO batt style as you can get a 650 that's small and pocketable. In fact, I keep mine with my keys with the CE3s unscrewed from it. A passthrough since using while charging is something that is important unless you have multiple batts, and for a beginner, who hasn't accepted the vaping as a whole, keeping them down to one batt is a better selling point than "buy three batteries."

VV is great, but no need to confuse people yet. Keep it as simple as possible. That's also why I suggested juice flavors in three totally different genres. No one hates a mint, I find tobacco flavors to be terribly off the mark, and watermelon is probably the most acceptable of the fruit flavors. Maybe peach.

But, once they get to liking it, then switching to whatever format they like is good.
