I haven't read the whole thread but it has been over a week now that I have quit analogs and I do have a few suggestion based on my experience:
#1 at $5.00+ a pack it only takes you (assuming a pack a day habit) less than a month to break even if you buy one of the more expensive kits
#2 e-Cigs are not perfect, mechanically and it's not unusual for them to fail
#3 I would buy a Kit, or go straight to a box mod, that allows you to keep on vaping even if there is a failure
#4 As far as liquids, I would buy smaller bottles of medium to high nicotine content + one large bottle of a menthol type liquid with nicotine. Spending $20 on liquids won;t break anyone and will give you plenty to vape for a while. Menthol (and I hate menthol analogs) is quite smokable compared to cigarette like flavors which take some getting used to and many don;t like outright. For instance, I bought a small menthol and several cig like liquids. Thank god I got the menthol because none of the cig-like liquid did it for me at first. Now, I actually like a few of them but the taste of analogs is gone from my buds.
Basically, you want a fail safe kit that gives vaping the best shot you can give it. Since I started vaping I have been plagued by batteries that take forever to recharge, batteries that fail after a single use, liquids that taste nasty (at first), etc. I was able to quit for good and I am happy about it, but someone with less determination might have written the whole thing off.
Let me expand on #3 a bit: what I mean there is to make sure you have extra batteries, that you have at least one passthrough so if the batteries fail you can vape with the USB passthrough in the car or at your desk.
As far as what's best, assuming that you like a cigarette like shape, the Box mods may be too much at first, but don;t buy those that are exactly like a cigarette but those with a larger battery. Beside that mine failed a day into it, I still like the power and (supposedly) longer charge much better. I think the one I got is the Riva 901. I would get something like that or better.
Above all, don't let price steer you toward a cheap solution. You have to succeed both for your health and for your wallet. If you buy something cheap that is too much of a hassle and go back to analogs then you'll really have wasted your money.
If you spend a bit more, inside of two months not only iot will be paid for, but your saving will far exceed your investment.
As far as using it just to quit, frankly I like vaping very much. I tooo thought I would use it to quit, but now I am reconsidering. I like sucking on something while I work. I just don;t like getting killed in the process.
So buy your kit (I am sure others have had great suggestions) but make sure to:
1) Extra batteries
2) Maybe an extra charger as well (in case one fails or justso you have more batteries at the ready)
3) Get a passthrough
4) buy enough liquids
