I hope Jerms doesn't mind me quoting him, but it came up quite recently in the rayon thread:

My experience is exactly like yours. I worried about flavor going back to KGD after using rayon for a while, but no issue there; still produces great flavor and wicks well. When it comes to longevity though, cotton just doesn't hold up.

The flavor is a little different. Like you said, rayon tastes cleaner. juice flavor is sharper and more defined, more intense even and noticeably sweeter, while KGD is softer and smoothed out a bit. For me, the flavor it's a draw between KGD and rayon, but for durability and longevity rayon is easily the winner.

I've never tried Japanese cotton (I was gifted some, but I love rayon too much to have given it a shot yet), but rayon is way better than organic cotton. After the switch to rayon, I accidentally used cotton once. I could taste it before inhaling fully... It was terrible :)

Throw in the fact that 500ft of rayon can be had for $12US and is available at your local Sally Beauty, and I won't be switching it up any time soon.

Can't see how you can say you like one over the other when you have never tried it.
I have been using rayon for quite awhile. It gets limp when it gets juice soaked, but it does work well.
I had organic cotton for over a month and never tried it. Until the other day. Organic Japanese cotton{not puffs, facial pads} gets fluffier as it gets juice soaked.
And the flavor is absolutely amazing. Knocks rayon to the curb. You have to know how to use a different amount of each, based on what I mentioned about one getting limp and the other fluffing up.

I have never used rayon and will have to give it a shot, is it like rayon balls or how is it packaged. I doubt the employee would have any idea what i'm asking if i said i need rayon for vaping!

You want a product called Graham CelluCotton. It comes in a blue-and-white box, about a 1-foot cube. The 500-foot one has the number 44060.

LOOK CAREFULLY AT THE PACKAGE. On the front it should say 100% Rayon. There are versions of Cellucotton (particularly the shorter lengths) that say 100% Cotton (and aren't Rayon). The packaging for the cotton type looks identical to the rayon.

I love the rayon. I have heard comments that the KGD can be easier to wick with (because it's a pad, not loose fiber) but I've never tried it. With rayon there is a small learning curve getting the density just right, but the flavor is awesome.

I recently tried KGD... I went back to rayon pretty quickly...
Rayon is kinda love/hate.... if you figure out how to use it properly, you'll likely love it... otherwise, you will definitely hate it... it doesn't work like cotton at all...

At Sally's, you'll want to look for Box #s: 44060 (500 ft), 44043 (3 lbs = 900 ft), 44040 (1200 ft), 44130 (40 ft).
Trust me... it is SOOOOOo worth giving it a shot!!

And check out the Rayon thread for all the tips and tricks on how to use it... it is not like cotton (you need more of it.. tighter inside the coil)

I'm a rayon user in my Reo, but I got my first box of KGD yesterday in the mail. I already had the Reo loaded with H1N1 so I pulled the rayon out and but in a slice of KGD in per Super X's directions, and couldn't really tell that much difference. The first wick I put in the flavor was kind of muted, so I took it out and put a slightly thicker piece of KGD in it and it was basically giving the same flavor as the rayon to me.

I will say this though, it is a TON easier to work with than rayon, so I may just stick with it. That $12.00 box will last several lifetimes!

And another thing to add: even though it is cotton, I get none of that initial nasty cotton taste like when you use cotton balls. It's like rayon in the fact that it's flavorless at first vape. I like that!

This is one of those questions that has no correct answer. Only YOU can decide which produces the flavor that YOU want.

But then again I prefer silica wicks ............ so what do I know

I can't agree with you, TJ.... you either use rayon, or you're wrong... that simple... ;)

J/K, man... EVERYTHING vape related is subjective to one's own tastes.....

hello everyone it is my experience that japanese cotton is a more pure flavor, rayon like silica IMO once you get 1 dry hit will continue to taste wretched unless re-wicked so on this subject it is all subjective and personal preference I can tell you this i tried cellu-cotton in my zenith with a .2 ohm coil and the cellu-cotton wicked juice very quickly but it doesn't give you a subtle hint that you're running dry it just tastes like poo instantly at least in my experience anyway. I also experienced a sore throat from using it as well so either a good old organic cotton ball or japnese cotton for me:)
