What's made you start smoking in the 1st place?

I started when I was sixteen. Both of my parents were smoking at the time and it seemed like something that I should do as well. I also wanted to feel a little bit more relaxed at work, school, and social situations. I quit early in my pregnancy almost four years later. I started smoking analogs again when the stress levels at my current job got overwhelming about six months ago. Thankfully, I am now just over the two month mark with vaping. I enjoy it more than I ever enjoyed smoking and I have not picked up a cigarette since I started vaping. :)

Second grade, back when there was just rocks and dirt, and cigarettes. It was rebellious and gave prestige in ones peer group. I stole the cigs from my Dad's war collection, they were from his overseas journeys during the war. He didn't notice until they were almost all gone. After I healed, I did not resume smoking until I was about 16 and in high school, again the same reasons.

I was a 17 year old punk rocker with a crush on a 29 year old metal chick and we worked at the same store. My idea of hitting on her was following her around and bumming cigarettes off of her. I didn't smoke, but it gave me chances to be alone with her.

I started buying cigarettes pretty much the day after I quit working at that store.

I hated it.

Oh yeah. As a kid I did too, and almost up until that first cigarette.

The way it happened was our house was on a hill and already had a water leak in the ground that was making salt crystals show up on a retaining wall and running up our water bill.

Then one day the foundation cracked (in the middle of the night), causing a pipe to leak into the floor downstairs, soaking the carpets.

After shutting off gas and electrical and taking all of the stuff that could get wet upstairs, we were waiting for a plumber inside a neighbor's garage across the street

She smoked. It was a cold morning, so the door was shut, and smoke was getting kind of thick in there. At first I tried to take really shallow breaths so I wouldn't have to smell it, but after about 20 minutes I got tired of holdng my breath. My lungs kind of hurt, so I took a big breath and decided to breathe normally. Then over the next few minutes an amazing thing happened... it made me relax, and I knew it was the smoke. I breathed it in and didn't care anymore, thinking it was just this once.

Two days later I was cleaning her yard for some pocket money and there was a pack of cigs on the patio table as usual and a huge box of those white-tipped matches that you can light without striking on the box.

After a stressful day, i lit up for the first time, and it felt like then in the garage, but better, so I smoked the whole thing and really didn't care anymore that only a few days before I thought it was the worst smelling thing out there... nothing mattered
