I've been analog free for 9 days now and BOY is my sense of smell coming back. At least once or twice a day I stop and think 'What IS that smell?!? I need to find that so I can bury it!". Tonight I opened my briefcase at work and nearly gagged. I think this weekend I may just go all out and wash any and everything that will fit in my washer and then maybe do a tango through my house with a can of lysol in each hand...

Is there a 12 step group for people who have had no sense of smell for the last quarter century?

That's so funny but true. It's hard to imagine it getting worse but with 9 days in it's bound too. The washing machine is your friend right now. Wash all that you can to get the stink out. You will find that you can actually wear your clothes more than once before you have to wash them. Sometimes I open my closet and smell it. Makes me smile cause it smells good in there.

It is amazing how much you are can smell it even after couple of days....I really can't stand the smell of smoke anymore really...even when my parents come and stay they tend to want to smoke in the house which at first I did mind...but give it a day I would literary get really frustrated and annoyed for some reason and I have to stand out side for the fresh air! I know you guy's are thinking tell them to smoke outside...and yes I did tell them that and now they do hehe wooo :D

It's funny how it effects you. I've started wearing perfume again for the first time in years, as I guess I didn't see the point in trying to smell pretty when I knew I smelled of smoke.

I too bought a bottle of the perfume that I had worn for years. I can't remember when I stopped wearing it or why. Maybe another one of the little pleasures that smoking just robs us of. I am so loving wearing it again.

It's amazing what is out there that you haven't smelled since smoking! I remember walking outside one day after quitting and getting hit with the smell of dirt and pine trees. It was like walking into a new world. Then, I walked around a bit and came across the smell of something the dog left. I was done by then and went back inside for a while.

No wonder my bride would complain about the dog... and I'd go "What?"

Hi, my name is Scott, and I'm a Febreeze addict.

I started vaping over the holidays last year, so my car sat for about a week before I opened the door. And during that week, my sense of smell came back. And we had a little warm spell between Christmas and New Year, so it really got the smells going. I opened the car door and the smell poured out like swamp mud. I just about keeled over.

It took me a few applications, and I had to get everywhere - under the seats, on the headliner, I even turned the AC on recirculate and sprayed it into the air vents under the dash. But, my car no longer smells like a smoker's car. I can get in it even on the hottest summer day, and I smell hot car instead of moldy ashtray.

Vaper for a month now, thought I had a decent sniffer for a smoker...OMG now that I don't smoke, first off, smoker's stink (luv you guys but you REALLY smell) & the dust mop. I kept smelling wet dog, only have one dog, he wasn't wet...dust mop, off with the cover in the wash. The boys upstairs bathroom (oh man a weekly cleaning just doesn't cut with 3 grown boys plus their friends). My car thankfully is newer and I always smoked with the windows 1/4 of the way down even in the winter. Upside is we never smoked in our house (thank you Jesus) as I would be repainting the whole interior (not that it couldn't use it already) but ya know what I mean.

I am a realtor so I showed some houses this week...showed a lovely home with a great sun porch, walked out on the sun porch and said "here's where they smoke." The rest of the house was neat as a pin and perfect, the sun porch reeked.

Foods...whole other subject but a few weeks ago I could actually smell the styromfoam that had heated up against my fried rice to go from the chinese place and I couldn't eat it, same with coffee. I'd swear up and down my Maxwell house can smell like Bayer Whole House Pest Spray.

And this goes on...just keep cleaning. If you smoked in your house, wash the walls, if it has been decades of smoke, use Kilz and repaint. I can tell you this horror story of a mulit-million $ house full of collectibles and antiques and everything in it was ruined from the smokers living in it and smoking. Collectibles worth almost zero. Whole interior had to be gutted because the nicotine and smoke in the walls.

Anyway...dinner is burning...have a great weekend ya'll...wash and scrub. :)

LOL! Great stories! It happened to me again today. I was driving to work which is about an hour away when it hit me. "OMG! What IS that?!?" I almost panicked and pulled over until I realized it was just the normal smell of my car's engine..... I don't even want to think about farts... I just thought I was blessed with odorless gas these last two decades.
