Welcome to the forum. More information about your wife's likes and dislikes would be helpful. What does she not like about the carto's? If its all about the flavor, perhaps trying some of SI's sampler packs that are grouped by sweet, strong or mild tobacco, etc. If she has tried some of those, perhaps get some blank carto's and trying small samples from some other vendors. If you are using a tube mod, I'm going on the assumption that you've vaped for some time and know of some juice vendors.

The clearomizers sold by Smokeless Image are becoming very popular here. They were primarily designed to be used by the larger X2 batteries, but being an 808 thread they will work just as well on her standard Volt batteries, although they will look a little top-heavy (most of us still do that). They are easy to fill, and don't have all that polyfill that the carto's have that some people believe slightly taints their juices. Very similar to the fluxomizers that you mentioned. Be aware that the clear tanks of these and other clearo/fluxomizers are made of polycarbonate plastic and that some juices from other vendors can weaken and even break these tanks (mostly citrus and cinnamon flavors - there is a thread on the main ecig forums devoted to this topic.

I have several of SI's clearomizers and use them on both my standard and X2 batteries; I have no preference of them over the carto's, but it is nice to see you juice level at a glance. I did have one clearo melt apart using another vendor's juice, so that is why I gave you the aformentioned caution. Some suppliers do offer Polypropylene and Delrin clearomizers/tanks, however those tanks are opaque/frosty in appearance...you can still see your juice level though. Some vendors state that their "tanks" are a harder plastic and won't crack, but from what I have been able to gather is if it is clear the "tank" is made of polycarbonate and those offending juices will still react with them. The opaque/frosty tubes should be safe with any juice.

I've only been vaping for about a month and started out with the Volt standard and X2 batteries, but already I'm looking into mods for my in-home vaping experience for longer battery life and larger capacity juice tanks. I've been totally analog-free for about 2 weeks.

I didn't like the Fluxomizers much. And I've tried the CE3s (Aka Pheonix) with an adapter and haven't been a big fan.

Cartos can be a bit troublesome for me because I vape a lot and tend to get dry hits from them as a result of using thicker juices that don't wick fast enough and being a chain vaper. Plus, I'm always worried about how much juice I have left in one.

I started using the Clearomizers as soon as they came out and love 'em. They're easy to maintain (just make sure you have one manual battery for dry burning them clean) and you can always see how much juice you have left. The only downside is they are subject to dissolving with some juices like all Polycarbonate tanks are. Hopefully they'll be able to find a Polypropylene (or some other nonreactive material) based clearo that's as good as some point. For now, cartos or a Polypropylene tank are the best option for those juices.

As far as battery life, The 1300mah X2s should last almost anyone all day (I carry 2 of them around just to be sure). Plus, they're passthrough and use the very common mini USB connection so it's not too difficult for most people to find a charge in an emergency (and if it is, there's always the 10k mah Power Pack).
I keep a small USB cable in my pocket as I'm always around a computer and I keep a Car Charger in my car with a cable long enough I can use it on passthrough even when I drive and have never had a dead battery. If I forget to charge the 18650s in my LT or Provari and they die on me, I'm boned as finding or carrying around a charger for them is no where near as convenient. Which is why the Lavatube is my bedside PV and never leaves my Bedroom and the Provari is being gifted to a family member (I'm one of those people who just doesn't like the menu system to change voltages) and the X2s are my constant PV.

I'm constantly using the X2 clearo combo at home. I haven't used a regular cartomizer since I got the clearos. When I'm out and about I use the clearos on my standard volt batteries. They do look a little weird, but work just fine. I'm very surprised when I'm walking around with one dangling from a lanyard around my neck and no one seems to give it a second glance. I'd definitely pick up a clearomizer and give it a try on the standard battery. When you take off the cap for the first time you may encounter some fluid on the inside of the mouthpiece that was used to lube the little gasket at the top. If you see moisture on that area you'll want to wipe it off, as it doesn't taste good at all. If some got on the wick it will take a little bit for it to vape off. I love these things though.

or you can try the clearos on the regular batts..

I asked SI's chat supprot yesterday if I could use the X2 clearo on the standard 78mm battery and was told its not a good idea as it may damage the battery, so I ended up ordering " FLüXomizer™ CE2 SUPREME" from got vapes. So I could have used the X2 clearo's or not?

Surprised by that caution. I have no idea how a clearo could damage the battery unless they were concerned about possible leaking juice into an auto battery connection (this would kill the battery). Like anything else in this technology, nothing is foolproof, and leaks can occur. Overfilling the clearo might get juice into the airhole tube which could drain down to the battery connection.

As far as I know, the 78mm batteries can handle the electrical drain from the atomizer within the clearos. Many of us have used the clearos on our 78mm's, and I've not read of any issues. Even Imagine has said that this combo will work.

Interested in hearing more on this.

Once she is more comfortable vaping in public with her 78mm Volts, maybe she will be more open to trying the X2 batteries. I quickly grew tired of needing to change out batteries so frequently, especially when I found out that there are alternatives available that can allow you to vape an entire day on just one battery. The X2's are somewhat the size of an analog cigar. I've never seen anyone in my city vape in public, but I do it all the time now. I vaped almost nonstop while at a city festival and hardly got noticed. I've vaped while waiting at the entrance of a grocery store while family members shopped, I got curious onlookers who smiled or even asked questions about my device. But most people didn't even look twice. :glare:

I've even moved up to something larger than the X2's now and will have no problem using them in public.

Thats funny because IMAGINE said you can use it. It works well and is the same ohm rating as the cartos. The only reason I could see it damaging the battery is because of leaking. The problem with it on the manual 78mm is that the collar comes to the top of the button and gets in the way.

As for the fluxos. Sailorman turned me onto them and they arrived on Friday. I actually like them, though I wish I would have ordered the xl ones. They are very easy to use, except you really need to fill it with a syringe. There is one thing abou them though. Many people modify them to get wicking. There is a rubber insert in the top that can push down on the wick and cut off the juice supply. When this happens, you get dry burnt hits. It seems alot of people just remove them, but I didnt want to, because I will be storing them with a condom on and no drip tip. If I just removed it, it will leak a bit.

What I ended up doing is pulling it out (its designed to come out), and used a nail clipper to put a bigger notch where the wick meets it. This worked. Now it wicks perfectly and there are no leaks.

I did ask Imagine about them and I was told that SI is working on getting something similar, but they like to make sure that it works well without modding first.

All in all, I think you will be happy with it, just know that if you get a dry hit, remove or trim the rubber insert. Other then that, it is nothing more that a clearomizer but the size of a cartomizer

Just to update, after playing with the CE3s a bit more and figuring out what was wrong with the first couple that I pulled out of the pack (they were from the first shipment and some of the coils were misaligned), I've gotten to really like the bottom coil CE3s on my X2s (they also work really well on minis). I use them with the juices that I can't use with the Clearos due to risk of cracking (mainly my beloved ripe banana DIY jucies which will disintegrate a clearo in minutes).
They also now come in 808s. I really hope SI gets them eventually as they really are quite good with Volt batts.

sorry to steal the thread and post this here, but you said your banana DIY will melt your clearo. I just ordered some DIY stuff. How do I know what makes the clearo melt. I only bought 2 flavors so far and some pg and vg base. What is in your banana that make it melt, because I use a banana cream pie juice from vapedudes and it doesnt affect my clearo at all

that is not correct... I will address that with customer support. The only thing that can hurt your batts would be using a carto or clearo with low resistance (lower then 2.1 ohms)

all volt stuff is meant to work together and is one of our main goals... everything is perfect for 3.6 volts and ranges between 2.6-3.0 ohms (due to variances)

I wouldn't use the Volt clearos on my 78mm batteries..... they will work, but in my opinion look wonky. They look great on the X2s, and my X2 is no bigger than a cigar. I have no problem vaping that in public. I do take my 78mms with jewel tips to events, just because I like the jewel tips and can pack 4 of them in a little Golla bag in my purse for when friends want to try one out.

Anyone know how long the XL cartos are? I think I want to try those when I get low on my current blank cartos.... although that could be next year since I'm mostly using my X2 with clearos now.

How do I know what makes the clearo melt.

There's a list: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...-crack-tanks-ce2s-clearos-17.html#post6105173

But it's not always accurate (for example I haven't had a problem with Ectoplasm in my Clearos but it's on the list)
So I bought a sheet of Polycarbonite from Lowes (An 8" X 10" sheet was about $5). I first smeared it with a Cinnamon essential oil (got at Walmart for a few bucks) to ensure it reacts as Cinnamon (or more specifically, cinnamaldehyde) is very reactive to Polycarbonite. Some Polycarbonite is coated with something that isn't reactive so testing it to fail first is essential before you rely on it.
I smear a bit of any new juice/flavoring I get on it and let it sit for a few days to see if there's any clouding, cracking or melting.
I also do the same with a piece of polystyrene (Styrofoam). Stryofoam reacts much quicker to some of the same things that will eventually break down Polycarbonite so it's an added layer of safety.
Lastly, if my first two tests seem ok, I have a dead Clearo that I kept and test my juice/flavorings on that just to make absolutely sure the juice is safe. I smear some juice on the tank and the mouthpiece and let them sit overnight.

Don't know. :)
There's a number of different classes of chemical that attack PC (aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acids, esters, amides, acyl chlorides, acid anhydrides, etc). Most are harmless to people and found naturally in many of our healthiest foods. They just don't like Polycarbonite.
And it's not all banana. Regular banana from TPA works fine. But TPA's "Ripe Banana" (or at least the bottle I have) has something in it that Polycarbonite doesn't like and it eats right through it.

Wow, DedTV; excellent course of action. I would have never thought of that. I wonder if Lowes/HomeDepot will notice the increase in people going in and buying a single sheet of Polycarbonite?:D
