Good morning. Sly, drink alot of water and be careful out there. I don't know how much you have to mow but it's amazing how much water you can sweat out in this heat.

Allco, I feel your pain on the crappy neighbor thing. On one side of me is a neighbor that I get along with really well and we both have sprinkler systems and take really good care of our lawns. On the other side I have the neighbor that no one wants. He has borrowed tools in the past that I have either had to ask for to get back or brings them back broken. His house is eleven years old just like mine but he has yet to paint the outside and I can tell that he has some trim boards that are in need of replacement. He finally hired a lawn service this year but hasn't watered so his lawn looks like the sahara. It's not that he doesn't have the money to take care of things, he just doesn't seem to care. His kids and mine are friends and his wife and mine are friends but I can't stand him even though I wouldn't say anything because I don't want to ruin it for the wife and kids. Sorry, didn't mean to go off on a tangent there.

some of that stuff isnt important to people. i was a lawn maintenance person for a long time , and as someone who took care of million dollar homes , let me say , that no matter where you live , neighbors suck.

we had some neighbors move in at my mothers a while back , that lets just say brought some WV rats with them... is horrible. but they are nice people , so what do ya do...


best tip for your lawn on a hot day : dont cut more than 1/4" from your lawn. if your mower is set below 4" , youre hurting your grass...and its easier to push...

Whew! The mowing is done! I was able to get it done while most of the lawn was still in the shade from the house. w00t!

But now I'm exhausted, so I'm going to take a nap before making a nice breakfast

hova, I do understand that it's not important to some people. That is not the biggest reason that I don't like him. The tool thing and how he treats others is what really got under my skin. I went over and did the wiring for him when he finished his basement with the understanding that I would be compensated somehow. There was none. He has borrowed tools and ladders from me many times and usually if I want them back then I have to ask for them. I loaned him a jigsaw with a brand new blade and he returned it with the blade broken in half. He borrowed my drill bit set and returned it with two broken. He is an .... The lawn thing and not taking care of the outside of his house is the icing on the cake. I found out from my wife last night that his wife told him that if he didn't get out and mow and trim that she was going to run the weed eater herself. On top of not taking care of his lawn, it was overgrown with weeds in his landscaping. I guess his wife's father watered her flowers while they were on vacation and he got poison ivy that had grown in their weeds. He had to go to the doctor to get a shot and she was rather ...... about it. Ok, I'm done complaining now. Let's change the subject and everyone have a good day.

I'm glad that went well for you sly. So what are you doing post-college now? I know it's a tough job market and keep hearing how alot of college graduates are having hard times finding jobs.

lol...neighbors suck. a lot of people these days dont know what it means for someone to trust you enough to let you borrow something. i stopped doing that years ago.

try being a mechanic , and having someone at the shop STEAL your tool , and give it back broken...

At the moment, no job prospects. I'm applying for graduate schools for next spring, and looking for an internship around Chicago. Hopefully I find something soon!

hova, I do know what that feels like. Years ago I used to have to supply my own tools at a place I worked and there was one guy, who I did kinda like, that always had to borrow tools because he couldn't afford to buy much that returned a couple broken to me. They were accidents and I didn't get mad but I honestly don't remember if he replaced them or not. It's been too long ago.

Good luck in your job search sly. That's great that you are going to graduate school. That should push the odds in your direction a little.

The truck in front of the house on my right hasn't moved in three months and the ones on my left have had a dead tree in their front yard for two years. It wouldn't be so bad if we lived in the country, but this is suburbia. Everyone else in the neighborhood is obsessive about lawn care and keeping their places looking good. Not sure how I ended up in between the two subdivision non-conformists, but mowing at 7AM Saturday morning gives me a warm fuzzy hoping that I annoy them as much as they do me.

Phoow!! I thought you were talking about me 'til you got to that part. In the country anything goes . And the great thing is when I have a junked out vehicle, all I gotta do is leave it sit in the yard a couple months and somebody'll be knocking on my door to buy it . Non-conformist living is the poo.......

You always know how to lighten things up around here TV. I live in a suburban neighborhood with a homeowners association. Our yards are tiny and it really doesn't take much effort to keep it nice. A few chemicals here and there and some water is about all it takes except a weekly or bi-weekly mowing depending on the season. People that buy houses in our neighborhood have to agree to abide by the rules when they buy the house. If they don't want to then don't buy there. I grew up in the country and liked it alot but my wife insists on living within spitting distance of walmart, target, and such. The first houses we looked at were another twenty miles north in the country but she was having none of that. She actually said " I would have to drive 25 minutes to get to walmart, no way".

Yep, I agree. Early on Momma and I looked at some property that was back in a woods, off a beaten path and a stones throw from the Wabash river. A 2 acre lot was only about $6200. Beautiful area that was in the early stages of development with only 5 or 6 houses over 400 or so acres of wooded valleys. The land owner had already organized a home owners association and one rule was they dictated what type of fence one could have. Hmmm. Another was no outside antennas or satellite dishes, only cable was allowed. Hmmm. Another was "approved" lawn care. HMMM! Another was NO UNUSED VEHICLES. HMMM!! Not that I couldn't conform to these rules, but short of anarchy I really hate rules. It's bad enough the government has the upper hand on what I can and can't do on property I own and pay my unconstitutional property taxes for, but to willingly give more control to others was beyond me. Loud motorcycles wasn't on the "don't" list, but I'm sure it would have been 30 days after my arrival . Not that these weren't good people, I knew everybody that lived in that area. And the landowner was a friend who I had spent much time with in Haiti after the UN troops moved out and left a "mob rules" law of the land. The problem was it was somewhere I didn't belong and to act like I did just to have a nice chunk of land would have been wrong of me. Several years later, I still like those folks and they still like me. We're just different breeds .

Good afternoon everyone. I thought I'd pop in and wake up this thread for the day. Things are a little crazy here today. I got mad at my wife about something earlier and of course she turned it around and now is mad at me. That's ok. I am used to everything being my fault. You don't get thru 16 years of marriage by being thin skinned. Other than that it's just another saturday here. Still hot outside and not much ambition as far as doing anything outside. I did a short side job earlier and am just hanging out right now. I could use some more side work to help pay for the braces that my daughter had put on a few days ago. Only 24 easy payments left.

That was a pretty good decision. I like that 15-20 minute to walmart myself. I like not having to worry about what my neighbors think of how I keep my lawn. Right now mine is real green and real long from not cutting for over a month. It's been so dry that the grass seems to like being left alone. That will have to change this week, but it's my decision, not my neighbors.

Our township has an ordinance about sheds having to be behind your house. What I wanted to do with a shed I was putting in placed it about halfway up my one hundred yard driveway. I talked to my neighbors, no one had a problem with what I wanted to do and now I have a shed where I wanted it.

They build heavy concrete steps on the front of my house that separated from the main building and sunk. I just got someone in to pull them out and bury them and build a front deck, no township intervention. There was a back deck that was not well constructed and we just built it bigger and better and added on around the back of the house. I also built a fish pond off the back deck and ran electric out to power the pumps.

There are some really nice things about not having other people decide what you can and cannot do. Almost feels like you're living in the good old days.
