I have begun to step down my nicotine level, but I don't intend to ever completely give it up. I started at 24 mg about two months ago, and I'm mostly vaping 18 mg now. I'd like to eventually get down to 6 mg, but if I find that I'm happier at a higher level, I'll go back to it. The important thing to me is that I'm no longer smoking cigarettes.

I started vaping to replace tobacco. I'm working on my 4th month. Started at 18 nic and lowered it down to 0-6 by the middle of last month, then got lots of stress at work and started getting depressed (I have slight bi-polar disorder). In a fit of worsening depression, I decided that I need to use up all the higher nic I had so I could just DIY, save money and feel better because I would be controlling something in my life...
wonder of wonders, I was going through the 12 nic level stuff and my depression went away! So while I plan on vaping for life, I will probably start back down to 0-6 nic now the stress is going away at work and up it when the stress comes again.
My body will tell me what I need.
12 mg nic makes my throat feel scratchy and too much PG feels too heavy on the lungs so this is a good solution for me.
I have researched it a lot, and it turns out that the nic in e-juice is about 10 times larger than in a cig. It is also less addictive than in tobacco because it is not combining with certain other chemicals which increase the addiction levels.
I have found out that it reacts with the brain to help you focus and concentrate, will slow effects of Alzheimers and is, as I discovered by accident an antidepressant that appears to have little or no side effects.

I'm not sure how you arrive at the "10 times" figure but it doesn't make sense to me.

The nicotine density listed for e-liquid is the number of milligrams of nicotine per milliliter. So 1ml of 12mg juice contains 12mg of nicotine. My Marlboro lights contained 0.7mg nicotine per cig (this is the EU, I believe that they are higher in the US). Comparing this to 1ml of juice gives 17-and-a-bit Marlboro lights. Say 16 if you take into account "....-wastage".

Granted I get through about 2ml of 12mg juice per day and I only smoked 10 cigs per day so this looks like I am going from 10 cigs to 32 cigs in terms of nicotine content. But then you have to factor in the absorption percentage of both. I have read that vaping doesn't give you anywhere near the 100% (more like 30% but there don't seem to be any hard facts). If you absorb 90% of the nicotine in cigarettes then for me it pretty much balances out. (3x the initial nicotine but only 3rd of the absorption).

I intentionally started on 18mg juice based on these figures as I thought that maybe I should attempt to get myself more addicted to vaping than to cigarettes. After about a week I dropped down to 12mg so I now consume about the same nic as I did smoking (roughly of course since the absorption rates are open to debate).

I think what Kena was trying to get at is that the nicotine molecule density that is vaped is about 10 times larger than the nicotine molecule density produced when burning an analog.

Since it is larger, it isn't as readily absorbed in the lungs as the nicotine you inhale when smoking. Most of the nicotine absorption takes place in the mouth and sinus cavity. If you roll the vapor out the nose without inhaling, you generally will get a larger nicotine hit.

As for the 10 times factor Kena referred to, I can not corroborate as I really don't remember, but 10 times sounds reasonable.

I will probably be in the vape for life camp. But I am working on cutting down my nic levels. Ideally I would like to get them down to 6mg/ml in the next 12-18 months. My plan is to step down a level every 3-4 months. I started at 24mg, and have recently dropped to 16/18 mg a little more than a week ago with no cravings or ill effects. My next drop is planned for may/june to 10-12 mg/ml. If my next drop doesn't go well, I may start using DIY liquids so I can control my exact nic levels, and reduce in smaller amounts.

I enjoyed smoking, honestly I didn't want to stop smoking, but knew I had to. I don't enjoy vaping, at least not anyway like I enjoyed smoking. I think the thing I like about vaping is the "high-tech" part of it (besides the health benefits) I don't think I have ever had that real "AAHHHHHH that was good" moment while vaping like I did with smoking.

I started 2 years ago at 24mg, now at around 4mg or less. I do plan on quitting completely, hopefully sometime soon.

I've dropped my nic level from 24mg to 16/18 mg. Tried some 12mg juice and that just wasn't cutting it, so I'm riding out on 16/18 for a while.

My hope is to get down to either 0 or 6mg nic, not sure how long it will take, but I'm just taking my time. I reach my month in 5 days so I'm not in a hurry. I'm just happy to be off of the stinky stuff.

I love vaping! I can sit in bed, read and puff away! I don't have to worry about burning anything! I have this Honey Hookah juice I just adore, but cannot vape in public because it smells like ferret urinal. But ferret urinal smells better than cigarette! I don't see myself quitting anytime soon. My world completely changed!

I started vaping to quit smoking. Smoking almost 2 PaD for 30 yrs was killing me. I've been vaping 18mg since I started and hope to drop the nic level over time. There's been a few times I had a bad craving to smoke but got through it. I would eventually like to quit vaping altogether but I'm not going to put any time limit on it. For now I'm happy to not be smoking.
