I've been rebuilding Kanger coils on our regulated mods for almost a year and know what works for the wife and I. Now, soon to be purchasing a Reo, just curious what combinations tend to work well. I fully understand each person has their own sweet spot, just looking for options/alternatives once I begin building for the Reo.

Describe your build: Gauge wire, wraps, Ω range, ID/tool used to wrap coil, atty used, air hole size, etc.

Once the new SO kit is released, what build do you plan on trying?

Thanks,

I've been getting along good with 6 wraps of 28 gauge around a screwdriver that gives me 1 ohms. The coils are spaced out, horizontal to the deck, and the top of the coil is level with the top of the screw heads. It's backed off the air hole a bit, standard size air hole. Just enough wick to hit the deck on the juice hole side, and a little bigger tuft on the other side. This lets the air flow around the coil better.

I've tried a few different vertical coils, and different ohms down to 0.6. The coils I've got going on now are definitely going to stay in place for awhile, couldn't be happier.

Edit : Mouth to lung hit for me

It might be useful to note whether the responder is a "lung hit" or "mouth to lung hit". The method used makes a huge difference in what's a person's "preference". The juice used is also a factor.

I'm a "mouth to lung hit" person, running 28ga, 10-11 wraps, on a 1/16th mandrel or directly on the wick (doubled), giving me around 1.5 - 1.6 ohms, on an RM2. I vape strictly unflavored, at 20mg. Coil is even with, and close to, the air hole (standard), and level, with about 1/8th of the wick (silica) sitting out past the ends of the coil.

Just FYI, I'm about 2.5 months on this particular coil/wick and it's still vaping like it was new with only an occasional dry burn (once a week?). I change my REO way more often than my coil/wick, just so I have a chance to clean it.

Lately I'm really liking ceramic 2mm wick and 29 ga kantal. I slide the wick on the small 1mm mandrel of the coil gizmo and wrap a non touching coil to .9 to 1.15 ohms.

EDIT: I forgot to add this allows both mouth and lung hits depending on my mood. This is a Chalice with 1/16 air hole.

Changed it here, too.

My era doesn't leak. Ever. I dunno why, but I can throw it in my pocket, walk around, pull it out and there's no juice not even a little smear near the air hole. If the rm2 didn't, I'm sure I'd like it better though.

But, that being said on the era I do a stacked dual coil with 28awg maybe 8 or 10 wraps and it comes out to .55 ohms with a 1/16 air hole. Mouth to lung. Gives me the same experience as a dual coil on an igo-w pretty much.

Now, I have a question. Not to hijack the thread but what do people run on a VVG?

My personal favorite is 3 spaced out wraps 3/32 ID of Mundys Magic wicked with 3mm ceramic (readyxwick). Comes out to .575. Very low maintenance, flavor is off the charts.

Once the 2mm readyxwick gets back in stock I'm anxious to try the smaller ID to get the ohms down around the .50 range.

This is all on the RM2.

Thanks,

What does it mean to "rebuild Kanger coils" and what is a "regulated mod?"

Dual coil, 26G, 3 wraps, 0.20Ω, 7/64" ID, RM2, 2x 9/64" air holes.

Ooo, zmauls.. I like your build :) Thats more my kinda thing, I presume you've done some tweaks to your Reo to make it happy with the low ohm-ness? Care to enlighten(throw a PM my way if so, dont wanna hijack the thread)?

Btw, rebuilding kanger coils means hes using Kanger Protanks(or Evods), with their replaceable heads, but hes taking the coils out of the heads and making his own. Very popular, some people like to do this before getting fully into rebuildables. Tell ya what, throw a good coil on a protank and you have a stellar tank setup thats for sure. And a regulated mod is any mod with voltage regulation, short circuit protection, the electronic stuff. Provari, Evic, Vamo, Zmax, etc etc.

    Im a lung hitter &
    Right now Im running:

Cyclone with AFC Cap(24k gold thank ya vury much :) )
    .8ohm single coil
    6 wraps of 26gauge kanthal A1
wish i could tell you the ID, but I dont know. If I had to guess the thickness of the rod, comparing it to RDA airholes.. Id GUESS 2.5mm

Truth be told, this is SOLID vape, but its not my ideal vape. Its a little cool for my liking, and its not really moist enough. Ive got to run 18mg juice to be satisfied with this setup. I would prefer to run a dual coil around .25-.3ohm, using only a few wraps of 26 or 28g wire, and 6mg juice. But Im new to the Reo so I havent subohm modded it yet and I dont want to push it too low. Might not even mod it at all since the subohm kit is supposed to come out I presume anyday now.

I did just purchase some new RDA stuff for the Reo. Picked up a bottom-feed Era RDA, and for which Im about to order the AFC cap, and I also just ordered a bottom feed kit for the Origen.

I slide a piece of 2mm ReadyXwick over a 3/64th (1mm) mandril from the Artistic Wire Gizmo. I use 5 wraps of 32 gauge Kanthal wire slightly spaced. That gives me a 1.4 ohm coil, it sits about 1mm off the deck of my RM2 with stock air hole. I do mouth to lung hits, 6mg 30/70 DIY usually pineapple, watermelon, or peach.

I was more or less kidding about the "regulated" thing; I knew what he meant, but I've never seen that term before. Never heard such a thing about the Kangers, but interesting nonetheless. Seems redundant, though. A Kanger is what, $25? An IGO-W is like $18. And you can't adjust the airflow of a Kanger. A bit silly if you ask me.

As far as the Reo, don't mod yours. By the time you buy the supplies, order a standard rebuild kit, and tweak the modifications to your liking, the sub-ohm kits should be out. I have a brass firing pin installed, a 15A fuse replacing my spring, a slightly modified RM2 and a slightly modified 510 post, but upkeep is a hassle. Yes, it vapes awesome, and I probably wouldn't use my Reo if not for the technical support provided by pdib and others on this forum allowing for premature sub-ohm set-ups, but at this point it would be easier just to wait. A month ago I would have showered you with links to DIY modding threads, but all those fantastic discoveries will be moot in a matter of days.

9 wraps of 26g around a 2/54 drill bit (pretty sure, it's at home and I'm at work lol) 0.87 ohms on my rm2 with cotton. Lung hit and it's perfect. Lots of flavor and lots of vapor. Can't wait to get my hands on a cyclone and my unflavored nic gets here this week so can't wait to try that. Right now have been using frosty peach from vapor chef at 70/30 vg/pg

Exactly, Kangercoils for the ProTank2's I bought in 5-packs for like $5+, so bought a few. Doesn't seem expensive, but I haven't bought one in almost a year. Plus, once ripping the silica out and going to cotton...it has greatly improved the flavor profile using PT2's.
