Hey guys, so I started strictly vaping Dec. 4th 2014. Previous to that I was smoking a pack of reds per day. When I started soley vaping, it felt like 18MG would NEVER be enough and I was vaping 5ML per day. In the last 2 weeks, I have been just getting 12MG juices and using them here and there. In the last few days, it seems like there's no way I can vape 18MG, it's just too rough. 12MG even feels rough today. I ordered a few different things today, and I ordered them in 6MG.

Mind you, I've been on vacation the last 2 weeks, and that's when I've been doing all this stepping down. Is this normal?

I found that I can vape in a broad range. At the high end of the range, I vape a lot less. At the low end, the APV is glued to my mouth.

What really varies that is my lifestyle. If I sit my APV in front of me, I vape. When I want to start the "drop down" process, I keep it out of site. After a week, I do the drop and keep my APV closer to me. Then, I just become less conscious of the need and I am happy. I have been dropping about every three months.

Hope helps

Pretty much as soon as I got into RDAs and other rebuildables. It is just too much liquid vaporizing for anything above 6mg to be feasible. It not only hurts, but makes me loopy on all of that nicotine. So I usually vape 3mg. But I go through juice pretty quickly.

If stepping down seems like its not enough for you, just vape some more.

The journey to lower nic is a personal one, just like your preference in juice or gear. The key (some say the only goal) is for you to be satisfied with the vape. Don't force lower nic on yourself, don't keep it high out of fear of cigarette relapse.

The two things the nic gives you are: 1) a drug, and 2) vape satisfaction, specifically throat hit (TH). It sounds like nic withdrawal is a non-issue for you, so that's #1 taken care of - just watch that you're not finding cravings creep up on you and adjust nic levels as needed. As for #2, lower nic means a more mellow vape. If it gets too mellow, there are ways to gain back TH through air flow adjustments and the use of stronger flavours (e.g., menthol or mint).

From the sounds of it, you're trending downward in a way consistent with many of us, if that helps, but again, you are the author of your own story.

How did you know when to step down your nic level?

I started vaping at 18 mg. I did that for a couple of months and then started reducing by 2 or 3 mg steps about monthly or so. Six months later I was nic free. After a reduction I would wait until I was pretty used to the new level and I was not vaping more than normal.

If what you are doing is working for you, that's all that matters and it's the right way for you. Keep in mind you can always go back up a bit if you reduce too fast. OTOH, unless you have a medical issue with nicotine, IMO there's no rush, it's more important to be off cigarettes.

Best of luck with it!

Thanks for the replies fellas, just glad it's semi normal. Wondering if I might be craving more nic when I get off vaca. I'll keep the heavier stuff arounda nyways.

I will continue to order smaller amounts of nic and see where I find that sweet spot. Crossing fingers it's at 6MG so I can just VAPE away!

Here's to the good life ! :toast:

I was a very heavy 40 year smoker...started at 24mg. After 2-3 months, I began to get anxious, jittery, general "running around like a headless chicken" feeling. That's when I new to cut down. Each time I got that feeling, or felt woozy, I cut down again. If I had a lot of cravings, I went back up. So I let my body decide. Today, after 2+ years, I usually vape 6mg.

That being said, I started on cartomizers and moved thru progressively better equipment, so that may have had something to do with my need for nicotine. With better equipment you may need less.

A bit over a year ago, I quit smoking using mostly 18 mg with occasional drags of 24 or even 36. After those occasional drags became unnecessary, I tried to step down from 18 to 12 and found it most unsatisfying. So I mixed my 12 half and half with some 18 that I still have giving me 15. That's where I've been ever since. Later I switched to Kayfun type RTAs and then to small-chambered bottom-fed RDAs and I'm still vaping 15; 6-8 ml of it most days. If it's time to step down my nic level from there, I haven't noticed. ;)

As mentioned above this journey is personal for each of us. The only thing that is important to me is not having a cigarette. I have found some flavors I like and a hobby i enjoy. But at the end it is still about not smoking. If where your at is working nothing else really matters. 3mg or 36mg who cares.

When I have a stressful day I come home and drip some 18mg Strawnilla. It is harsh and makes my head swim. After 4 or 5 hits I am not thinking about a smoke. So whatever works for you.

I found as I stepped down to 6 and started dripping the flavors were great. 18mg tastes really terrible now. It is like hints of flavor and just this nicotine yuck. But when I first started vaping those same flavors were great.

When I collapsed on the hockey rink last March from dehydration. The day before I vaped a 30ml, 24mg of Rootbeer. Could not help it as it was the first time trying Rootbeer and it was so good. After that even a couple vapes of 24mg would make me feel sick. Went to 18mg and no problem. Down to 15mg now and soon going down to 12mg. Been vaping over a year. CHEERS!

I haven't been inclined to reduce at all; in fact I started at 6mg 11 months ago, and have gradually increased it till now I'm vaping 11-11.5mg, at which level I can chain vape if I really want to, but I don't NEED to. I can put it down and do other things for a while, then later, oh yeah, a vape would be good.

However I'm soon going to start a slow, 1% per month, reduction of WTA. At first thought, I thought maybe it would be beneficial to increase my nic level slightly while decreasing WTA, but I'm rethinking that; I may find that I want to vape more, so I think that for every 2% I reduce WTA, I'll reduce nicotine by .5mg. Eventually I'd like to get back to the 10mg level I stayed at for quite a while, because it sure did make adding 100mg nicotine easier. :D
