How old are you, and why did you start vaping?

I'm 27 years old, started smoking new years eve after my 21st birthday (worst new years resolution ever!). Been analog free for exactly 72 hours now and don't plan or desire to go back. I mostly quit for my first baby who is now 6 months old, I realized she might start to understand exactly what it is I am doing when I go outside and I REALLY don't want that. I also got a new job and my new boss isn't a big fan of the fact that I am, wait WAS, a smoker. I also signed up for the Cooper Bridge Run in Charleston and figured training would be easier if I wasn't hacking up a lung every day. I am so glad I found this site and everyone here. After reading everyone's stories I realize that I probably would have smoked myself to the grave if not for you all! Thank you all for saving my life!

I am 30, I started smoking when I was 15. My mom was a heavy smoker and they were around, so I just started using hers... Bad choices ran in my family (obviously.)

I started trying to quit when she got cancer, (1997) she quit, but I couldn't, even though I had only been smoking 1 year, with all the emotional crap I was dealing with (being a teenager, mom sick) I just COULDN'T. She lived 9 more years, and I took care of her every day, I had kids, I still could not quit. After she passed on, I still could not stop, I was killing myself, and harming my husband and kids.

One day, last March I walked into the smoke shop to buy a pack, I had exactly 1950 in my pocket, my husband and kids were waiting in the car. I saw the disposable Ecig sitting there, and passed it by, I bought my packs, and headed to the door. As I passed it again, I stopped, grabbed it, and walked back to the counter, gave the guy back my cigs and exchanged them for the vaporizer and a bottle of juice. After seeing all those commercials I HAD to try this new thing to stop.

When I came back out my husband looked at me funny, I pulled it out, took a drag, and blew out a puff that didn't reek (and I was doing it in the car!! something I had never done before.) When I felt that nic hit... I never went back, I went online that night and ordered my first starter kit (horrible one, but it got me going!)

I have not touched an analogue since that day. My husband is thrilled (still) my kids no longer have asthma (even though I never smoked in an enclosed space with them like our house or car, just being around it in our yard was enough.) AND!!! I can now walk them to the bus stop without panting, and ride my bike around our nice little rural town to do errands instead of using my car... So many GOOD things since then. I WILL NEVER GO BACK!

I'm 25 and I've been smoking since I was 12. Now that I wrote that, wow, that's 13 years of my life.

I started vaping August 2011 and never looked back. I wasn't really planning on quitting analogs and even skeptical with the whole vaping thing. but when my boyfriend bought a Lea starter kit, I was hooked on my first vape. Glad that I finally found something that I enjoy and not kill myself slowly!!!

I know how you feel I started when I was around 12 as well. Scary now that I am 28. More then half of my life smoking.

I am 39 and started smoking smoking when I was 24. I smoked probably a little over a pack a day. The most important reason I quit is because of my son, he is 2 1/2, I had been trying a bunch of quit methods since he was born but nothing worked. I got my first ecig 11 days ago and have been completely analog free for 8 days. Since I'm a gadget lover I now have 3 PV's and lots of accessories and juice. I was also tired of smelling like smoke, ash all over, ashtrays all over, burn holes in my shirts, tobacco stains on my fingers, cost of cigarettes, and fear of health problems. I am so thankful for ecigs and ECF! Damn I love vaping! :)

I started smoking at 12 pack a day by 16 and 2 packs a day by 18 I am now 34 and am 61 days analog free and no looking back. I had tried everything over the years to quit could never make it past 3 days and then smoked heavier that I did before I tried to quit. I was web surfing late one night and saw a bottom bar add for V2 e-cigs went to their site and could not believe how cheap it was compared to smoking and the fact that I would be able to use them in the house and trust me in a Saskatchewan winter that is important. So I ordered the starter kit before it had even arrived I found out that I had most likely been ripped off but still cheaper than analogs. I tried them out and then ordered a 510 kit from a far cheaper site and 120ml's of juice and 3 days after I had my 510's I just quit picking up my analogs. I really had no intent on quitting just saving a few bucks and not having to outside with every craving. Now I have every single ego type pv and am coming up on 15 mods and over 2L of juice. Both the wife and mother inlaw have followed this same path.

I am 46 yr old female. Started smoking around 13. Both of my parents smoked, my siblings...pretty much everyone around me. My dad passed away in 97 from esophegeal(spelling?) cancer, my mom passed away 2009 of COPD. One night when I went to bed I had the scariest thought that in 5 yrs I will be 50. I started feeling forlorn wondering if I would be around to see my sons,my grandchildren grow up. Decided to quit on my 46th birthday this May. Used Chantix and it pretty much did the trick until a stressful situation happened and I really wanted a smoke. So instead of smoking I bought a disposable and avoided the evil analog. Wish I knew this years ago and more importantly wish my parents did. Happily vaping my Volt and now so do my 2 older sons!

24 year old male. Started dipping at 14, smoking at 15, quit chewing when I was 18 by smoking way more, then smoked till I was 24. A few months ago I made the full on switch to vaping strictly to save money. No intentions on quitting, I actually take in more nicotine now then when I was trying to quit smoking by weening off. I don't mind at all though, still way cheaper than smoking and I'm not having to budget 4-5 cigs a day when I really wanted 20+

I'm 38. I started smoking at 8. Was a pack and a half a day smoker for as long as I remember. I don't really recall a time when I didn't have a pack of cigarettes and a lighter in my pocket. Tried stopping many times over the years using many different methods and none worked for me. (chantix, shots behind the ear, gum, patches, cold turkey, etc). Decided to try the e-cig one day when I was watching my son play. He was almost 3 at the time. I thought to myself that I would like to be around as long as I could for him. I picked up my first kit on January 9th. Brought it home and started charging everything and finished my pack of cigarettes. I smoked my last one at 1030pm on the 9th and went to bed. I woke up a vaper and have not looked back. Over 6 months now. I have not been this long without a cigarette since the 3rd grade...

I'm 44. Started smoking at around 16. I'm the only smoker in my family and it's a source of shame for my folks.

I started vaping 2 years ago because I became terrified for my health, and because I really was feeling like a slave to big tobacco.

I never smoked out back at home if the parents were home or in front of them and they knew I smoked. My dad has chewed for about 30 years now. Everyone on my mom and dads side smoked for a good while, minus my mom and dad, so I was kinda the black sheep. Also the only one it of the 15 of my cousins who smoked.

I'm 35 and started smoking when I was 14. I've been vaping for a little over a month now. When I quit smoking I was up 1- 1 1/2 PAD. I started vaping because I was starting to get a smokers cough and I thought I would save money (yeah right, too many cool gadgets lol). To save money me and the hubby had switched to roll your owns and I was getting tired of spending 15-20 min rolling my smokes for the day. I love that it takes less than a minute to refill a clearo and it tastes so much better :p

48, soon to be 49 (going on 18 :p) Started when I joined the Army at 18 (once in a great while in high school when drinking) and continued on and off for 30 years, longest quit session lasted 18 months seven/eight years ago. I had to quit, I have twin 13 year olds, I want to be around for the grand-kids and their graduation. Also, I live in Minnesota, I smoked in the garage, it was too cold or too hot and I didn't like smoking outside the house where the neighbors could see me.

I started smoking when I was 18. Tried vaping when I was 24, loved it but the batteries I got were too unreliable. Wound up going back to analogs for awhile. I'm 27 now, still a vaper. I enjoy it because it's somewhere between both worlds..of smoking and non. It's more like I get what I want out of it with a lot less of what I don't want.

I'm 36, started smoking when I was 13 (everyone in my family except my Mom smoked). Started vaping less than a month ago, I started because I have a daughter and I was tired of playing and running around with her and having to stop to catch my breath. I wanted her to have her Dad as long as possible and not tell her I couldn't run with her because I can't breathe. I am also a singer and it was starting to have a bad impact on my range and vocal control.

For the record, I already have better lung function and feel multiples better than I did when smoking. I would just quit, but I am addicted to nic, and I like the vapor (gadgets) :)
