When do you dare call yourself a non-smoker?

I had my last cigarette 2 months 21 days ago. I smoked well in excess of 20 a day for over 40 years and I'm frankly amazed at how the chance purchase of an e-cig has changed my life. Somehow though I'm not confident about calling myself a non-smoker yet. It isn't that I have a single urge to return to analogues, nothing would persuade me to go back there so how long did it take others on here to believe they are now non-smokers?

For me it was after the first time I went to the local watering hole (they still allow smoking) and vaped away without any urge to smoke. Next day I smelled something awful, reminded me of back when I would military field strip smokes and stick the .... in my back pocket so as not to litter and forgot them till it was time to do laundry. I realized it was really 2nd hand smoke stuck to my clothes. Funny, I had never noticed it before....

I believed it after a few months, simply because I had no desires anymore to smoke. It has been over 2 years now, and from what you say it sounds like you dont crave cigs anymore either, so i reckon you are a non smoker already.

All the stuff in tobacco that can cause problems, the chemicals that your body may crave somewhat, should have worked their way out your system now, so if you feel ok now, likely you will stay that way!

well done...good job!

I consider the following as minimal for 'non-smoker' status:

vaping satisfies your ol' urges and habits.
No desire for 'bakky.

By my standards, you're a non-smoker!

I was a non smoker the day I began vaping and had smoked 1 PAD for 44 yrs. As for feeling complete confidence in my ability to stay away from the stinkies I'd say about 30 days in. What bothered me for the first 4? months was, by habit, I was continually looking for my ashtray, analogs and lighter. Not to say I wanted an analog but just the fact that analogs had become such an integral and important part of my life. Note the past tense :thumb:
A HUGE congrats on 21 days and the Best of Luck going forward.

i fell off the wagon a couple of times during some turbulent periods in my life that happened when i first started vaping. now i'm back on the wagon, and have been thru a few more rough patches without wanting an analog. So far, i'm almost 6 months in and not looking back. i'll probably never call myself a non-smoker due to the associations i have with that term, but i'll certainly say i don't smoke anymore, and feel great about it.

I think I'll always be a smoker, in the same way that an alcoholic will always be an alcoholic
I did think that way at the start but it isn't the same. I'm a nicotine addict without a doubt and I haven't given that up but if it were only about the addictive substance then patches or gum or any of the other replacement therapies I tried should have worked. They were pumping far more nictoine into my system than I'm getting from vaping. In my case I reckon it was all about the habit, the action and to an extent a certain 'ceremony' surrounding having a cigarette. When I first started vaping I did miss the whole process of lighting up.
