I am such a slavering fan that I hope they never do make that movie, because no one they cast as Roland would be good enough, IMO, unless they managed to get Daniel Craig to play him; he has the most perfect face (homely) and eyes (1000-yard stare, "bombadier eyes") to play Roland, I can't believe I'm the only one who's thought of him. Also I thought he acquitted himself well in the rather-ridiculous "Cowboys and Aliens". I'm a massive King fan anyway, but that is his Magnum Opus. Have you read 11/22/63? At one point there is a mention of FBI agents taking a great interest in Oswald, pre-11/22/63, and one of the agents mentioned is named "Fain".. either Richard or Robert, I can't quite remember the first name... but I'm pretty sure he's referring to Flagg, the "Walkin' Dude".... my son is out of state right now so it's hard to have a book discussion with him, but I think he would probably concur... I think the destruction that the protagonist is creating in 11/22/63 by changing the past is analogous to those "places between", the "todash" journeys, and I think this guy Flagg/Fain/Walkin' Dude has used that temporal anomaly to weasel around in time... Just my opinion, of course... Just recently I *finally* got thru the waiting list at my library to get "Dr Sleep".... yet another excellent read from Mr. King...

I agree with you 100% - NO MOVIES!!! Just the very thought makes me shudder.

I'm in the middle of Dr. Sleep right now, and loving it. I hope you do too!

Yes, I did read "63", and yes, I felt Fain was yet another variation of Flagg, all of which were variations of (and born from) "the man in black". More "King being King", for lack of a better phrase. I loved that book too. LOVED it!

Did you son also read DT? If so, you're now the 3rd person I've met, here on ECF, that have read them with their respective sons (me being one of those). Very interesting, isn't it?

Well, since my son was about 12 yrs old, he and I have been a sort of informal book club -- he's been reading at an adult level since that age, and I never thought "shielding" him from good fiction was a good idea (he got *me* started on the works of Laurell K Hamilton when he was about 15!), so he and I have been trading off books and discussing them for about 13 yrs now; in fact, I distinctly recall the two of us FIGHTING over "Song of Susannah" when I wanted to read for just 15 mins before bed, and he was on page 5 or something of that book, and would be staying up later than I was going to, so he could keep reading even after I had gone to bed. :D. My husband thought we were both nuts -- he *can* read very well, just doesn't do it for entertainment purposes. heh But my son and I first read all of DT when he was in high school, starting about 2003; I just checked the copyright on the last, DT itself, to make sure my memories were accurate, but we were reading that last one when he was a SR in high school, 2005-2006; in 2010 he and I both re-read the whole thing, and re-discussed it, highlighting any new points that popped up or occurred to us. Naturally we also both tried to get to all the "associated" works, though I think there are still one or two of those I haven't yet read.

King always says he's "done" with DT, but I just don't believe it; he wrote himself into it, for god's sake, and I think it also got into him (sort of like the abyss!). So now my son and I *both* watch for those small, sly insertions -- like Fain in 11/22/63! :D

Yes, Dr Sleep was great; nice to see the recovering Mr King making a sort of literary "amends". :) But 11/22/63 just blew me away -- really brought to the forefront of my mind how BT used to rule the world -- I recall it myself, actually, but when cig commercials went off TV in '70, I was just 9 yrs old. Ok, so this is completely off topic, so I suppose that's enough digression. Just had to note that avatar, since I *thought* I recognized it right away. :D

I hate it when an errand or an appointment gets in the way coming home from work, when I know there is vapemail waiting. I have rescheduled appointments to get my vapemail instead.

We go up to my folks' every month to clean their house, they're so decrepit now they really cant; this past Saturday we had to be 2 hrs late, so I could wait for the mail to come... but that's because some little :censored: has been stealing stuff off our front porch, so I wanted to be sure he didn't take anything from the mailbox too! Our mail carrier *never* closes it fully... :-x
