Never thought of using a small spot welder for this... Welp! Time to pull out the disposable flash camera circuits again!

Yeah I would've made one instead of buying it but I really don't know enough about electronics or wiring things.. I probably would've just shocked myself a bunch of times.

To make replacement clips I brazed small chunks if 15% silver solder to the tips. Being careful not to over heat the spring inside the clip. After brazing was complete I filed them down to a flat block.

Oh nice, how did you go about it? Did you just use a soldering iron? What 15% silver did you use, and where might I get some, Radio Shack perhaps? I'll have to keep this in mind, thanks gtbb!

I just ordered a spotty v1. Seems like a good one. Todd did a review for it a while back Todds Reviews: The Spotty Wire Welder. I'll post back once recieved and I've had a play.

i had trouble joining vaper wall to request One from helex but he is on ukvapers so I got to order mine through there. There is a google docs order form, takes about 1 month + for him to get round to building yours. Only once it's built will he request payment and shipping info.

I never implied it was easy. The silver soldier is from hvac supply companies. If you run into an a/c guy he will most likely give ya a piece. As far as keeping the spring cooler I used a thermal paste which I got from a welding supply shop. I had no name on my bottle for it so just ask them. Then a Bernzomatic torch but an iron might work not sure.

Ah thanks gtbb, I do have a friend who used to weld, so maybe he can help me out. I probably won't need it for a while but it's good to know! I'll just keep sanding the blocks a little but when they get gunked with metal or whatever is happening. Maybe it's the instant heat from the wires melting the silver?

Just thought id update, Spotty arrived today. Awesome bit of kit. Very simple to use. Already set up a trip coil on ithaka. Took minuets few to join my wires. 0.15 nicr with 0.15 ni I found 28v to be the sweet spot with very little fuss. Twisting wires was such a pain in the .... glad thats now a thing of the past. Would reccomend using some form of eye protection if using one of these things. i have a tendency to watch a little too closely to see what I'm doing with the small wires forgetting there's goin to be a spark. Didn't have much success joining ribbon wire to 0.2 silver though. the joins would break too readily. Will sit and have a play around more later this evening and figure out the best combination of n/res and voltage. I'll also probably produce very quickly a months supply of wires at varying resistances just becuase I can now.

its a direct copy of Ithaka my new friend Dy, so I dont think that anyone here will answer your questions. By the way, why did you buy the copy instead of the original?
I just ordered iSmoka Magoo and am very intersted in what all of you are doing. TSAF vs Spotty vs Zapper.:toast:
