As frustrated as it makes me, I've had to learn that people are going to believe whatever they want to believe, no matter how hard you try to justify something. The way I see it, I can just point these folks in the right direction, tell them what I know, and hope that they can form an educated opinion based on something more than what the government or other people are trying to shove down their throats. Just so long as I can continue to happily vape in my own little world, I don't really care what other people do or think
Exactly how I feel.

June 20, 2012 is the day my starter kit came and I joined ECF. I had been researching e cigs for 3 4 or 5 months. 2 months later I was completely free. I have not had one since my Volt died on a cruise my family and I were on and I bought a pack of smokes in mexico. It was tough to just find someone selling a pack in all the ports. They all wanted me to buy a carton. She charged me 6 bucks and I can still the look on her face on why I would pay 6 bucks.

I left a little less than half the pack on the ship.

So after a 30+ year smoker I guess 2 years isn't a long time. I'll take it though.

I do have an occasional cigar.

Stale cig smoke smells horrible. Freshly lit cig... after several pints of Guinness... oh mannnnnnnnn it smelled good.

I just find it hard to imagine that anyone off cigs for so long could find it appetizing at all. As mentioned, the other time I seriously tried to quit, even after 3 months it still smelled good to me... like there was something in me (my addiction?) that just couldn't let them go. I had only been a smoker for about 10 yrs, at that time But this time, almost from the very start (after 39 yrs of smoking), I've found ANY tobacco smoke to smell just ghastly, just a gaggamaggot stink.

I don't drink, so I have no way of knowing if I'd feel differently after a few drinks. *shrug*

Heh... I quit on the last day of Feb, and since then, I've been very fortunate that I've only needed my leather jacket when I've gone outside, and not my big ol "parka", which just REEKS of cigarette funk -- likewise my suede gloves. I think the gloves are probably toast, doubt anything could get 10 yrs of that smell out of suede; I already told my husband I was going to need new gloves this fall. The parka will definitely need dry cleaning... :D Thank god I never wore that leather jacket much when I went out to the porch to smoke... :D

When I quit smoking cold-turkey once for 3 months, it never started smelling bad to me; everytime I'd smell it, I'd want to just follow my nose to the nearest cigarette and steal it right out of whoever's mouth it was in! This time, within 7-10 days, I just cannot stand that smell, it smells like garbage and burning tar, just plain FOUL.

Andria

If you really want to get rid of the smell use some of the skunk smell cleaner from a pet store. I could tell you about the skunk incident with one of dogs but needless to say the stuff from the store is the only thing that really got rid of it. My daughters love to wear their boots without socks. Anyway, I keep a spray bottle of 25 skunk cleaner and 75% water mixed and spray in their boots at night. By morning smell is gone.

I had to spray it on furniture to get rid of the skunk smell. My wife let the dog in after it was sprayed. It wasn't a good morning.

It smells good when not drinking either. It's just this weekend my wife and I went to a sports bar. I hung outside with the smokers and the smell was intense, more so than when not.

I have a client that smokes. When he brings his info in a mail envelope, I gag when it is opened. That stale smell makes me sick. I have to have someone else open it and spray it febreeze and wait 2 days before I can look at it. It doesn't leave though.

It's that smell of a freshly lit one. We have a cigar bar close that my friends and I visit. Once the cigars and cig light up after 11:00... it is a wonderful aroma.

A skunk removal spray can be made as follows:

Mix the three ingredients in this ratio: one quart of hydrogen peroxide, a quarter cup of baking soda and a teaspoon of liquid dish detergent.
Let it soak into whatever you are needing the odor removed from for five minutes.
Rinse well. Dab dry. You can let it evaporate if it's in boots.

Use this mixture immediately and with caution, as it will bleach the hair and clothing. This mixture cannot be stored in a closed container, because it produces gases and may burst open the container.

I really feel for smokers more than I was one. They got the crazed public demonizing them. Then they got the former smokers that have a bug up their .... with vaping against them.

If dude wants to smoke. Let them light up in peace.

I spent this weekend vaping outside at a local sports bar. Man the cig smoke smelled great.

totally agree that if a smoker wants to smoke then let 'em.

what i don't agree with is when said smoker spouts off ignorant babble against vaping because they read it in the latest alarmist article. i'm definitely gonna defend myself in that case and explain the sheer stupidity of their statement.

I keep it short and sweet.

#1 - I tell folks that I smoked for over 30 years, and would most likely develop a respiratory disease or cancer if I kept doing it. Now that I am vaping, I have a whole new block of 30 years to start fresh and develop a different disease. Meaning that IF there are vaping related diseases, they might begin to affect my health about the time that I am 80 or so. That's much better than developing a smoking related disease at 60.

#2 - I agree with them that PG is a great antifreeze, and readliy admit that I use it in my boat's fresh water system for winterization purposes. It is not poisonous, so it doesn't contaminate the water system. Then, I tell them that Vodka would be an even better antifreeze for the fresh water system since it has a lower freeze point than PG, but it is just too damn expensive. Then, I ask them why using a safe product as an antifreeze is a concern. Any food product that has a low freeze point can be used as antifreeze.

Really? You must not have quit very long ago. When I'd been smoke-free about 10 days, and caught a whiff outside a store we were leaving, it nearly gagged me. Can't believe I stank like that for 39 yrs.

Andria

I've always liked the smell of burning cigarettes.... second hand smoke.

I've never liked the smell of an old ashtray. I'm sure when I was smoking, I smellt like that old ashtray, but just couldn't tell. Even though I never noticed the smell in my car, but could instantly tell if I were in another smokers car.

Even today, when I'm talking to someone, I can smell that nasty ashtray smell on them. Hate it, yuk... gaging reflex.

But a burning cigarette, or a burning cigar..... I've always loved that smell.

Nah, I think 10 yrs for a pair of gloves is long enough, even without the odor problem. The suede is losing its nap! :D

The only thing I can figure, about my different responses to it, is that the first time, I was cold-turkey, not replacing the nicotine (not even sure the patch had been invented in 1984, or was available without a prescription anyway); this time, I'm replacing about 2/3 of the nicotine I was accustomed to, so there's nothing in cigarette smoke that appeals to that need for nicotine.

Or maybe it's because this time I'm really serious, doing it for my own reasons, rather than trying to please some man (who ended up never being pleased by anything I did, so what was the point?). Quitting something for someone else just never works, really; quitting smoking, or drinking, seems to only work if you choose it yourself, from your own volition and reasons.

Or, and this is certainly possible given BT's nefarious tactics, there is something in cigarettes now that wasn't in them in 1984. I do know that my sense of smell is much keener now, a long-lasting side effect of PTSD (my early-warning system of fire!).

I still like the smell of a freshly lit cigarette . smoked for 30 years and never intend to lite up again no matter how it smells. tried to stop many times and the e cig is the only thing that has worked for me . vape on

Same here, I smoked for over 30 years too BUT I can't stand the smell of cigs now, it smells rank!
I never tried to give up before but when I quit months ago (stopped smoking from one day to the next) I've never touched a real ciggie since. More importantly, I don't miss them at all. I really enjoy vaping and am getting quite a collection of stuff, it's become a hobby! :)

Exactly on the bolded parts! Since we are getting nicotine, the NEED no longer is there when we smell a cig burning.

I agree that stale cigarette smell is pretty bad. I'm at the point now that actual cigarette smoke does not bother me. As long as it is not a room full of smoke.

Standing in a line behind someone that smokes and it is that stale smoke smell....not liking that so much. I always remember that I was that person. I also remember how I felt when non-smokers made me feel like a second class citizen. I never wish to make anyone feel like I felt.

My daughter still smokes and when she visits or I go visit her (they live in MI I live in FL) I never, ever, make her feel like she stinks. I was her not that long ago.

Yeah that was my first thought, about the nicotine, because I remember that ever-present, never-ceasing CLAMOR that my body put up, it never let me rest even for a minute, I even DREAMED of smoking, even after 3 months without a cigarette. This time, in 6 wks time, I've had exactly 3 dreams that seemd to be smoking-related -- and the third one was actually vaping-related; in the dream I felt that need, looked up and there was my iTaste+T3S, loaded and ready to go. That was a good dream for me, because it showed me very clearly that even my subconscious is on board, this time! :thumb:

And I do have to agree; as bad as I find that smell, it hasn't been that long since I smelled like that; it really just amazes me that I went around smelling like that for all those years, and never had even a clue how awful it was. Here I'd be all dolled up, ready to hit the town -- and smelling like a loaded ashtray.

I agree with you. I like the smell of a freshly lit cigarette. I liked it when I quit for 2 years with Chantix, I still like it now. However, when my nephew or sis come into the house, I just want to throw them both in the washer. They STINK! I hate the smell of old smoke and ashtrays. To me a person who smokes smells like a huge ashtray on steroids. I don't drink. Haven't for almost 30 years. I don't think I would like the smell of someone covered in stale smoke if I drank a bottle of scotch. YUCK>

What I keep getting from smokers is "I read online people are getting pneumonia from ecigs, and over dosing and killing them selves." or "Just smoke a cig, its the same thing" one guy at work even said "I'm not trying that stuff" when I offered to let him try it(he is a smoker that has tried and failed several times to quit).

I was a smoker for 21 years, camel filter's pack and a half a day. I'm enjoying not smoking, and actually having some thing to show for the money I spend vaping rather than an empty pack to throw in the garbage.

I did 3 weeks of one or two cigarettes a day and have been completely tobacco free for 2 weeks now. I no longer like the smell of cigarette smoke and I can pick the scent up in the air very easily, but it doesn't bother me.

I have had many coversations like this on many subjects

What I have learned is most people will cling to what they want to believe
to avoid change

they claim they want the truth but are unwilling to look at evidence
clinging to the quick easy to understand lies
because its easy its quick and its convenient
and they don't have to face change

Indoctrination has become easy in this country as of late
and it runs into many subjects

you will find this kind of pattern defending many falsehoods

I wish I could hit that LIKE btn over and over for this post!!!

And, DragonsDeath... that guy who said "I'm not trying that stuff" sounds to me like a person who's afraid it WILL WORK! He's afraid because of... that post I just quoted! Change is SCARY! Heck I WANTED to quit, but was still afraid -- at the age of almost-53, after smoking for 39 yrs, it was nearly my whole life! I had no idea what would happen if it stopped being part of my life! So far, the main thing that's happened is...
I've stopped:
1) Gasping for breath!
2) Making obscene noises just to try and get rid of the junk in my lungs!
3) Smelling like an ashtray! and
4) Wasting an obscene amount of money on something that goes up in smoke and kills me with every breath!

And I was afraid. :D
