Hi fellow NT fans. I thought that the below article would be of interest to many of you (if you have not already heard):

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/0...n_5527943.html

The article's most salient point for our purposes:

In April, the FDA issued a proposal which would subject the $2 billion e-cigarette industry to federal regulation for the first time. It would ban the sale of e-cigarettes to people under the age of 18 and vending machine sales.

...

In its draft, the FDA had proposed "prohibition of non-face-to-face sales (e.g. vending machines)." That would have opened the door to a ban on online sales. But
[the White House's Office of Management and Budget ("OMB")] edited the sentence so that the prohibition refers only to vending machines.

...

Similarly, OMB modified or deleted FDA concerns about the safety of e-cigarettes, including manufacturing quality.

It deleted FDA draft language saying it would review electronic cigarette cartridges to respond to evidence of poor quality control, variable nicotine content or toxic ingredients such as diethylene glycol, a chemical that the FDA said has caused mass poisonings in products such as the painkiller acetaminophen and cough syrup.

Sooooo...since none of us are vaping cartridges we are unaffected, right???

At least that would be ONE point I could argue in a lawsuit...seriously, wording is very important. Therefor the only things they have any legal ability to control would be Blu and Enjoy etc. BY THEIR OWN DEFINITION!!

Asshats...

But at least some progress is happening...I hope it's enough...

Good, very good.

How was that a bad thing ? I may be missing some English subtleties here, but...

No, no it's the continued use of the word "cartridges" as it ignores the majority of E-cig supplies like dripping and tanks holding liquid. That isn't a bad thing it makes me roll my eyes at how little they know about vaping. Which means as long as they are focusing on "cartridges" we can argue in court that their ruling doesn't effect us at all...

Yes, reading some of this stuff also has me rolling my eyes at the wording and/or underlying meaning. It'd help if they knew what they're talking about. However, I wouldn't have any problems with them wanting to ensure cartos, wicks and other stuff have good QC (ask me about Kanger QC lol), or to be free of known poisons.

However, looks like someone in the White House is a vaper :)

Yes, I am absolutely behind quality improvements in our hobby(?) but it can obstruct innovation if handled badly. And so far the only thing WE ALL agree with is no vaping anything sold to people under 18. The rest? We'll just have to see how it shakes out.

And yes, it definitely seems like someone in the White House has more experience with vaping than the FDA!

Thank you for posting this!! Always good to see progress on the regulatory front!! X-posted to Facebook.

My pleasure! I am glad that the information was of interest to you, as I also found it rather telling as to the administration's views on the issue. And the FDA is an arm of the Executive Branch, after all... albeit a powerful arm.

I'm a new NT customer, but am really enjoying vaping my Virus & GCD at my desk right now!

At this point in our storied 1 year history, we consider everyone early adopters... I think the vape world moves on a whole different scale than the rest of the planet - new, old... in the grand scheme of things, I'm a new member of the family. ;)

Aren't we all? Even people who have been vaping a while find themselves in a new world. Vaping has been available in certain areas and countries for more years than available in the U.S. I first saw a group of people using a cigalike in Europe in 2005. Did not know what they were "smoking", decided I dd not want to know. I did not see anything else about them until around 2009 when I saw an Njoy product at a truck stop. I was interested, but did not buy one until the next year. I still have it.

FYI: the Obama administration is the one that signed the power to regulate ecigs to the FDA with the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act.

When you say "we", I assume you mean the less than 10% of people using e-cigs who are using "advanced" equipment, and by that I mean anything more high-tech than a cig-a-like. Because the simple fact is that the MAJORITY of people in the US that use e-cigs ARE using "cartridges", because they are using BLUs or NJoys, or V2s or whatever.

"We"--the folks using anything from an eGo on up--are a tiny minority. It's easy to forget that when you're immersed in the world of RBAs, DNA-30 devices, and 18650 batteries, but it is the truth.

Just sayin'...

Heck, I'm focussing much tighter than that! I'm meaning the fervent junkies of NT! Hey, I'd be more than happy to fall through the cracks and be ignored by the powers that be because I'm part of a small minority. That would be awesome!!

They can regulate all the cartridges they want as long as they forget about us...plus in my state I see folks with more tanks and Reos and MVPs and Provaris than anything. I never see cig-a-likes being used. I have at least 12 B&Ms within ten miles of me, three within 5 miles, and one a block away. In the western part of the country this is much more prevalent than cig-a-likes. I haven't even seen anywhere selling them except Walmart. The east coast is definitely behind the west in the level of vaping being mainstream...
