Fishmantx - have you ever sat down and really thought about your philosophy? You're apparently a religious person (and, being from or in Texas, I'll make the leap and assume a flavor of Christianity), and you believe in the harshest kind of naked Darwinian survival of the fittest. Isn't one of the core tenets of Christianity that we should rise above animal nature? Isn't there something in the bible about Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me, where it tells you to take care of the poor, of beggars, and crippled and sick, or you're abandoning the principles you're supposed to follow?
Don't you see a basic conflict between the two positions?
There is no conflict, there is only reality. Something of which you have little experience with. "Positions" make you inflexible and unable to deal with fluid situations. Tell you what. Next natural disaster that comes, you live up to your charitable words and feelings and fly in to help with the cleanup. Make sure you handle BODIES while your there, not just work in the soup line! Get your face in the middle of it!! Then you come back here and lecture me on life, charity, and reality. Right now you have no idea and aren't qualified to lecture me on anything. Never once did you hear me say I had an aversion to charity. I'm saying charity is for us to decide, not the government. Welfare and assistance are for the old, infirm, and handicapped. Not some 400 lb coach potato spittin' out babies once a year so they can get more food stamps! It's not for us to subsidize the lazy! Darwinist? Maybe, but I've had a LARGE dose of reality forced on me. More than I can take sometimes. Or have you not realized that the military doesn't just fight wars?
I'm saying the more you spoil the kids, the less they are prepared for life, which can be harsh even in day to day life. And speaking of biblical and hard times, read the end of the book. Hard times will come. Look at the tsunami in Asia. Over 250,000 dead. Are you ready for such a disaster here in the U.S.? Are you capable of fending for yourself when rule of law, services, and food is no longer available? Do you have the mental Cojones to deal with it? Do your children and families? Look at hurricanes Katrina, Ike, Rita, etc. You have no IDEA what disaster is! Where were you when Katrina hit? or Rita? or Ike? HAVE YOU SEEN DEAD BODIES OF MEN, WOMEN, AND CHILDREN FLOATING IN A SEA OF DEBRIS UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL??? GET YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR ...! People like you only see it sitting in front of the TV and you cry and grieve while sitting on your couch. Get involved yourself. Get up to your NECK in it! Have you ever even worked homeless shelters?
God said for us to plan ahead and be diligent. "No man knows whence the Master of the house cometh.". I'm not a survivalist or "prepper", maybe I should be, but 20 years of service and some horrible experiences have taught me to be prepared and be diligent. Charity comes after your responsibility to your family.
My family is ready. Are yours?
