So if the next one is a flop, then I'm all dun with Kay Fun.

Seems like a sensible conclusion then.
For what it's worth, I still don't like any of the kayfun versions/interpretations other than the original, however being a gennie guy I imagine you like a more open draw and this would not suit you. I also found the Russian design to be a bit of a "dry" hit if you will.

That being said, would you do us the honor of providing some pics of your builds before you write it off completely?

Overall, though, I do prefer the Taifun. Slightly less flavor, but overall very easy to build, refill, great vapor. On paper the kayfun 3.1 wins hands down, but it's hard to get the Taifun out of my hand, just overall a great RTA. A good micro coil with cotton is my preference on both devices between 10 and 12 Watts with 1.2 ohm coils. That's my sweet spot. Occassionally, I can do something wrong and I break the pressure seal and have some leaking. However, it's easily remedied. Still hard for me to believe that the Kayfun with variable air flow control comes in a close second to the Taifun for me. Hard to explain, but the missus thinks so too. Just an overall kinda experience, even though we both agree that the saturated vapor flavor is slighltly better than the Taifun. What can I say? Both excellent, and my vape world is pretty complete with them atop our Provari's and Semo's. My two cents. YMMV. Good luck!

I agree. Once you get the hang of how much wick to use with the Taifun it's much, much simpler to work with, doesn't drool on you and the overall vape is comparable. I also think the build quality of the Taifun is worlds better than the Kayfun which explains a portion of the price difference. Details in manufacturing tend to cost a lot more than you'd think and there are a lot of significant detail differences between the two.

I'm not really unhappy with the Kayfun. It works well but in retrospect I think I'd have been happier with a second Taifun.

Used clone? I didn't say it was used. I bought it new. Together best cooperation you know? :-x

I've built tons of coils. The coil is perfect. The air hole threads were stripped from the go, the fluid channels, well there were hardly any. I fixed them with a dremel. I tried cotton, I tried ecowool and it's got 2mm silica in there now. It's wicking now, just tastes weird. Have had multiple juices in it. I thought it might be the cotton that tastes weird. But I have a microcoil on my AGA T2 with cotton and that tastes fine. The thing has been apart and washed and put back together 10x with multiple juices. The thing is a complete LEMON. I'm not writing it off completely, or bashing the Kayfun altogether. I mean endless others like it.

So if the next one is a flop, then I'm all dun with Kay Fun.
I bought a clone of the Kayfun 3.1 for the missus, and it had a stripped screw at the negative post. I believe it was an HCigar. I returned it, for an Aqua. I replaced it with an EHPro clone of the 3.1, and no problems. There are significant differences even among the clones. They certainly aren't all alike in build quality at all. My authentics, though, have been stellar. I would buy another 3.1 if they didn't discontinue it. The 4.0 is coming out this Spring and, this time, going through the patent process. I can't wait. I understand it checks all th right boxes, I'm told, from suppliers who know. Otherwise, top secret stuff.

I appear to be in the minority. I've tried cotton, ecowool, and other types of silica. I just can't get a good taste out of the thing. It's not burnt, it produces vapor, it just has a weird taste to it.

So I'm wondering if there's others that just aren't impressed with the things. I have a 91% on the way. I'll give that a shot before I give up on this design, but to me, my AGA's with a SS wick just give a better vape.

I have 4 different kayfun 3.1 clones from different manufacturers (including hcigar and ehpro), I also have a rocket, and a taifun gt clone. They all do the exact same thing for me. The first hour or so of vaping I get great flavor and then suddenly they just taste generically sweet and I can only identify the flavor on the exhale even if I come back to them hours or even a day later. I've wrapped over 20 different coils in each one of these guys now all different styles, different wicks, different resistances and they all result in the same bland sweet vape. I've used liquid from bobbas bounty to some crazy koolada super tart mixxed nonsense and it all ends up the same. I've washed all the tanks multiple times and even tried mixing juices with existing and it doesn't make a difference. It's not vape tongue either as far as I can tell, I can taste all those flavors just fine on my RDA's and If I rebuild the devices for the first hour or so. I even went and bought a legitimate expromizer tank that's got some good reviews and just came out and it lasted for about a day before the bland sweet flavor hit. Even cleaning the coil and changing the wick on it (generally cotton, but i've tried silica, eko, XC, and mesh) didn't make a difference on the expromizer.

I have an aqua clone by tobecco and hcigar and at this point they seem to be the only tank that this doesn't really occur with. The airflow is tight on these and all the other devices however and the tank is pretty small when you need a dual coil in the tank to make the device shine so I just don't find myself using it very much. Both aqua tanks retain previous juice flavors in them and create a wierd taste if you add another unless I give them a real decent cleaning so the aqua just hasn't been practical for me at this point but its an option if your experiencing the same issues I have. I just opened up all my airholes on the aqua to 3/32nd last night and will be trying it again tonight to see if that enhances my experience and gives me a possible single juice tank option but I'll probably drip forever. I really enjoy changing up my flavors constantly and while that works on the kayfuns and taifuns and such all the flavors only last an hour so its a waste of juice to me personally :(

I got the Russian 91 today. It's the same brand as the KFL. TOGETHER BEST COOPERATION << name kills me.

Built it up with a cotton wick and micro coil. Meh, doesn't impress me. To me, it provides too hot of a hit. I'll stick to the AGA's which seem to me, to provide a cooler more even vape. I got a couple with micro coils in them too. One with cotton, the other with ecowool 2mm and the rest with stainless steel. All of them IMO perform better than these Kayfun types.

It's almost always too much wick that causes people problems. I use organic cotton balls on mine. I change my cotton every other day. I like using different flavors. I've gone through 2 cotton balls in 2 months. I urge anyone who has had a "not so good experience" to give it another try with just enough cotton to hit the base where juice comes in and just enough to fit through your coil. It's probably a inch + or so total. Hopefully it will surprise you with a great vape. :2c:

Yes I've done that. Cotton to just touch the decks, and enough cotton to touch the channels. Had my cotton fit through the coil so there's a bit of resistance. Still didn't like it.

Ya unfortunately that wasn't the solution for me, I am in the minority here. I'd like to consider myself at least some sort of veteran of cotton but I even accepted that I may still be doing that wrong as well so I tried other wicks, built them all exactly like the popular builds on youtube specify and still receive the same experience with them as well as cotton.

On another note though, I enlarged the air holes on the aqua, both holes below the coils and the 2 on the side to 3/32nd. Filed out the white delrin air channels a little as well to increase airflow and now am in fricking love with it. This guy hit's like a dripper now, unbelievable and awesome. Using a 28g micro dual coil .5ohms with cotton. Draw is amazing I rip off this thing like my drippers with the same builds!.

EDIT: added drill bit size I used.

I also tasted an odd metallic taste in my Kayfun when I first got it. Even after a good cleaning with dish detergent. A simple fix for me was to load it with a juice to to point of flooding then empty it. Let it sit without cleaning for 1 week. Problem solved.

Mine was a clone, but the issue I had with mine was that stupid little o-ring that sits at the top of the chimney. If that thing stretched in the slightest, it would slide down the chimney, and cause all my juice to run out into my lap when filling. If my KFL had to be sidelined due to a little o-ring, I'd rather not. Ended up getting an Aqua clone. I build that single coil, just snake the wicks down between the posts to go into the back notches. Aqua is the same concept, but with a better seal.

Just my 2 cents worth....
I started with the aga t2 and have 2 of them. To me they are a pain to build, they arent very pocket friendly and I dont care for having to have it tilted just right for the wick to stay wet. but they do vape well when built right. I have been wanting to get rid of them and get another Hcigar Kayfun 3.1, thats what I have now and I love it. Vapes awesome, doesnt leak for me anyway. I have been thinking of trying a Taifun GT but for now I am very happy with my Kayfun.
Everyone has their own preference and style of vaping so what works for one might not work so well for another.

I have found that when they are new, it takes awhile (even after a good cleaning) for the "funny taste" to go away. Also, even after a rebuild (I use wick and silica) it often takes a bit of time to get the new build "broken in" so that the "new wick" taste goes away.

Once the strange taste goes away the things are amazing. By the time I get to my second tank full, my Kayfun clone produces a rich, full bodied and very mellow taste that I just can't seem to get with any other atomizer. I dry burn my kanthal when I make a new build, and also torch (with my handy BIC) both the silica and coil just before I mount it. Even so, I get a bit of the strange taste, but it goes away shortly and the results are worth the efforts involved (in my case).

I would suggest that you give it at least a tank full and see if it improves, if you haven't done so already.

Hmm..........maybe this my problem with my Hcigar Kayfun 3.1. I've had a consistent muted flavor with a minor dry burnt type of taste (using cotton wick), even after a good cleaning. I've only had it about 4 days. I'll stick it out for a few weeks and see if it improves.

Hi all,

I got my first kayfun (original) back in December and like the OP almost gave up and threw it in the woods. No matter how many times I washed, boiled, simple greened, tooth brushed, alcohol bathed or otherwise pleaded with the little bugger, she just kept tasting and smelling of machine oil and metal. On a hail mary, I got a cheap ultrasonic cleaner from Amazon. I completely disassembled her and ran all metal parts and screws through four 8 minute cycles, first two with simple green and water 50 / 50, then dawn detergent, then plain water. And sure enough, at the end of the first two cycles, there it was: little blobs of oil floating on top of the bath. I finished the job, dried her off, did a 7 wrap micro 28 gauge on 5/64th drill bit for 1.1 ohms, and used organic cotton with just enough to touch the decks. And Bob was very very much my uncle. She is now the best vape I have ever had, just surpassing my next favorite (gp spheroid) and running rings around my cobra gennies.

While most people seem to just need to do a basic cleaning on a new kayfun before using, every once in a while, some people get one with an abundance of left over machine oil -- and should you be one of these unlucky souls, with all the internal threading, nooks and crannies in the kayfun, you'll then find it right next to impossible to remove that oil without an ultrasonic bath. I can only think this problem is even more widespread among the clones, though I do not know.

I just received 2 more brand new kayfun lite plus v2s from vaperev. Straight into the ultrasonic they went -- and yup, one had little blobs of oil. The other was clean. They are performing just great, and I like the new design elements. You can fit an extra half mil or so in these relative to their predecessors, the o ring on the top piece that connects to the chimney is secure now and won't fall out, and the drip tip is a shorter profile. All wins.

But on the non-fanboy side: I really wish svoemesto would design a unit with pyrex instead of the polycarb tank. A better way to fill this thing would be much appreciated, too. And of course, better quality control with the machine oil problem would go a long way... and yeah, how much would it cost to throw in a micro screwdriver?

Just my fifty c. Hope it helps someone.

Steve.

PS: To the poster who complained of flavor fade, maybe try 3 strands of twisted 32 gauge. Rip Trippers has a recent video on it. Then do 7 wraps on 5/64th drill bit microcoil and organic cotton for about 1 ohm. Instead of the mellow, balanced flavor the kayfun is noted for, you get a *crisp* sharp vape. You''ll get all of the top notes of your juice with this build -- and for certain flavors, I just love it.

I like my Kayfuns (Hcigar 3.1 and a really good piece from Fasttech Lite Plus) but I have to say I like my Fogger V2 maybe a bit more but the jury is still out.

HOWEVER! I though that with all this hype I would be getting rid of my 5 X Original Genesis (3X Ginis from Steam Machin, a big DID and a Gemini DID) but they are still here and being used every day.

I started using microcoils on my genys and centering the coils just right up to the airholes and the vape improved even further so they stay. There is a difference between them and the Kayfun - Fogger design and especially the big DID is soooooo smooth that I just can't stop using it. They Kayfun design feels a bit "harsh" to me compared to the geny's so I my next objective is to try the DOME (steam machine) and the new TNS from MM Vapors. If they were cheaper I would have grabbed them both right now but I am stocking up in clones (mods & attys) just for the fun of it and to test different designs.

Ease of use though (and no leaking) I have to give it to the Kayfun although I have become proficient in rebuilding gennys.

Lastly, I have decided to move away from anything plastic that has to do with eliquids and the Kayfun lack of glass is something I don't like at all although I know there is an aftermarket solution out (expensive) and the steel tank will make refilling a pain.

Oh well, confusing in my case but these are the facts and the gennys are staying.
