Ever since I started vaping, I've been wondering who really makes batteries and mods. For some models, it's quite simple: Provape makes Provaris for instance, Innokin makes the Cool Fire, and that's that. Of course there are unauthorized clones sometimes, but generally speaking a genuine model belongs to a given brand. Simple.

A little less simple is stuff made under license, or rebranded. For instance, Ovale e-cigs that are just rebranded Joyetech products. Could even be the same company for all I know, I haven't checked. But then I wonder why they'd have two brand names really...

And then you have the eGo family of batteries, sold by everybody and their dogs - eGos from Vision, eGos from Smoktech, eGos from Joyetech... eGos everywhere, sometimes with different names, always with different logos stenciled on them. And they're all strictly identical. And many small vendors the world over have their name added to the eGos they sell. I have here an eGo battery with "ValueCig" written on the top collar - ValueCig is an obscure German distributor, they don't make anything at all.

Who manufactures these things? Is is a single company that supplies rebranded batteries to everybody else? Surely all the brand names that sell eGos can't all make perfect clones of the same model independently.

Who's "eGo"? Anybody knows?

Ego is merely a "class" of batteries. All of these batteries are made by various manufacturers in China. Joytech (Twist), Vision (Spinner), Evod, Smoktech, Ovale, et al. Then there are the nameless clones with just ego on the battery. Many distributors or vendors place their own logo on the battery.

China doesn't recognize patents like the rest of the world does, or if they do they don't often enforce them. For example, Ovale or Janty allegedly came up with the design of the original eGo battery and presented it to Joytech the manufacturer to make the batteries for them. Joytech allegedly "stole" the design and manufactured/marketed it as their own. The Chinese e-cig trade is very cut-throat competitive.

And yet they're all exactly the same (same electronics, same "user interface", same dimensions, same button, same surface finish) save for the color of the LED behind the button and the length of the main tube? That's remarkable. Even perfect clones are rarely that perfectly identical.

I have read that @ 700 e-cig manufacturing concerns
exist in the Shenzhen area of China.
Chinese law concerning intellectual property and patent
is also quite "unique",
complicating the issue of manufacturer identification.
Some vendors are up front about acknowledging their source...

Not every "ego" battery is identical to the next.
Subtle and not so subtle differences do exist.
The quality and number of ego connector threads
being one obvious external example.

Heck, i could make my own battery tubes and stuff a tiny battery in them and call them eGos. As of today the name eGo is accepted as a generic term for any second generation 3.7v (ish) battery holder stuffed with chemicals with a threaded top and a blinky light up push button switch.
I find it funny when sellers advertise as 'genuine eGo battery'.
I'm going to watch this thread to see if any one knows the original manufacturer of an eGo battery. Intrigued.

I've noticed differences in the ones I've owned. My first were Eastmall/Riva and they had crappy buttons- quite annoying. Tried Smoketech, fell apart. Finally went to Joyetech and noticed big differences. Quality product and lasted 2yrs with zero problems.

The Joye have protection circuits that others may not have. Well worth the few xtra $.

There are differences in the ego batteries, especially with the major name brand variable voltage batteries made by Joytech and Vision. The biggest difference is in the vv control dial for both models. The Vision Spinner dial is bigger and knurled with a red line, and easily legible numbers on the battery. The Joytech Twist's dial is slimmer and smooth with hard to read engraved numbers.

The Joytech Twist is available in 650 and 1000 mAh capacity, while the Vision Spinner is available in 650, 900, and 1300 mAh capacity.

    Not that it matters much,
but my limited research reveals these origins:
    eGo ... Janty
    eGo-T , eGo-C, eGo-C Twist ... Ovale

    Vendors, whatever their name,
contract the purchase or manufacture of "ego" type batteries.
Virtually all manufacturers/wholesalers are located in China.
Money & quantity allow the discretion to define/refine the product.

To my understanding - Janty designed the first ego. They did not have manufacturing capability. Joye manufactured them for Janty with the agreement they could make their own after a brief time (similar has happened with ovale innovations). Due to the aforementioned Chinese "laws" now anyone can make any type of ego device making the ego an open design. So who currently makes it? Depends on what brand you buy.

The last 'eGo' type battery i opened had a teeny tiny cell and a lot of toilet paper stuffed in it. That was the last time i bought a cheap sealed battery tube. I swear the cell was so small it couldn't have been more than 300mAh but was sold as 1100. I honestly believe i would have been better off sticking an anode and cathode into a potato (that was for you old folks out there) :)

I bought eGo batteries as soon as they hit the market. The original was manufactured by Joyetech. I've only purchased Joyetech manufactured eGo batteries since. I have never had an unusual problem with any of the iterations of Joyetech eGo's I've purchased. I still use them everyday at work where shirt pocket portable and discrete is an asset. Coupled with the right delivery device they perform very well.

The Joytech eGo-C Twist is also available in 900 mAh. :)
