perhaps my idea is not related at all but I have been DIY and I noticed one of my mixtures containing vanilla custard v2, cotton candy, and dulce de leche causes my eyes to get watery I am going to make up five Mls of individual flavours to see if I can isolate it. Is it possible that your usual adv recipe was changed a little - perhaps it would also be wise to consult a physician and have a few tests done

I know of several people that developed a cough (including me) after switching to the Kanger SubTank Mini. Lowering nic, etc. didn't help. I ended up getting rid of my Subtanks and went back to the nautilus and after a few days the coughing stopped and has not returned.
Maybe I'll try a new tank. Thanks!

I get this everyday and night. I used to smoke 2 packs a day and didn't have this problem, when I switched to vaping is when it developed. I noticed that having a sip of a drink (water, iced tea, - the sweeter, the better, etc.) between every few hits and/or lowering your wattage for a few hits before going back to normal use wattage helps.
I've noticed this, but specifically beer. While I'm drinking beer, I rarely cough with the ecig. :) Perhaps I should just drink more beer.

Recently, I developed a pretty nasty cough, and I suspect vaping, since it usually happens right after I exhale, and at night when I'm in bed, it's a LOT worse. The problem seemed to start shortly after I got my Kanger SubTank Mini, which was about 4 months ago or so. I've been using 50/50 liquid for the past year or two and haven't changed the flavor in a couple years. I've also been using the same brand for about 4 years. The cough is brutal, and sometimes it hurts and makes me feel like I have to throw up. It's a lot like that tickle in your throat you get when you have a cold.

Things I've tried to remedy this:
- Gone all the way down to 20% PG, suspecting this may be a culprit.
- Tried many different coil lengths. I've built everything from 0.3 - 1.5 ohm.
- Tried using the OCC heads that are built for the subtank mini
- Changing airflow on the tank
- Building "looser" coils
- Building coils with different diameters

None of these have fixed the cough. The last step I guess I could try is a new tank or something, but I don't really want to do that.

Also worth noting, sometimes it's completely fine. No coughs.

Any ideas?

'right after I exhale' kinda rings a bell with me;

I don't have a subtank btw;

so my guess is you're vaping at something like 30 watts.

insulator material and wicking material might be a concern.

That thing about feeling to throw up though....... that's not familiar to me at all; that's something to be wary of

It's probably the flavorings, don't rule them out. Certain flavorings make me cough too and I've had really bad reactions to certain commercial liquids, a few popular ones here made me react horribly every single time. I tried to get the vendor to tell me what the ingredients were so I could know what to avoid but they never would of course, still kinda irritates me since that is pretty important information to withhold from their customer out of a desire to guard a stupid ejuice recipe... :facepalm: Maybe they'd change their tune if I dropped their name.:D

Anyways, good reason to start DIY.

DIY may not be the safest choice although it's a widespread idea that it is. At least, when compared to correctly manufactured juices. I can understand if manufacturers don't unveil their formulas and I don't think there's such a fuss because Coca Cola doesn't unveil its formula etc. Everybody's right in saying flavours must be questioned though. And that leads us to the same old thing: flavour manufacturers should be forced to fully analyze their formulas and provide the results both to juice manufacturers and to the general public (that is, if they sell to the general public).

this happens to me sometimes when I'm vaping. I chain vape s it only happens sometimes it is like a scratch in the back of my throat and I will cough and cough and cough. I think it is the PG. never thought it could be flavors. I have a couple set ups I keep going all the time with different juices. you are not the only one this happens to.

here's a thought...shocking I know..but quit vaping for a few days *lol*

and since tha's NOT going to happen...go back to a setup and juice that you didn't experience coughing with and then only change one thing at a time that gets you to what's giving you the cough now.

then you'll be able to pinpoint what it is probably.

good luck.

If its any help - vaping often catches my throat as I exhale if its been a while since I last used it.

A lot of people notice this first thing in the morning, making sure its fully filled helps a little.

Currently I'm on a 1 ohm coil at 13.6w. I'm using organic cotton for wicking. The throwing up feeling is very rare, and it's only when I cough really hard. It's only happened a couple times.

You might try bumping your watts up a little at the time, that's what I did and it helped... really. I stopped in the lower ~20's. It sounds counter-intuitive I know... only thing I can figure is maybe the VG is not vaporizing enough at lower wattage on a lower ohm coil?... heck, maybe the PG isn't vaporizing enough either, IDK... I do know VG has a higher boiling point than PG.

I also quit using flavors altogether. It's not so bad... only takes a little while to get used to it. Also, after a while on the same wick, it develops a slight, almost caramel-y flavor. In the last 6-8 weeks I've also found there are many other advantages to using unflavored.
