I wonder if Jaunty had originally intended to launch an actual e-pipe and lost confidence or thought 'whats the point, lets sell the guts as a new ego and the pipey bit on it own'
I kinda agree with the op in as much as the ascetic of e -cigs can be lacking. Kinda dictated by the fact thats it a battery attached to a carto and batteries are all the same shape, tubes. If mobile phones had gone the same way we would still have big square batteries stuck on the back of them. At some stage a manufacturer will invest enough to commission a battery to suit the produce rather than designing around the battery. But that costs and it's still a small industry relatively. Maybe when big tobacco get in on the act the game will change. Money to throw at it and a marketing savie to go with that money.

Vulgar and pointless? I dunno...everyone talks about the throat hit, flavor...seems to me this is only another way to fulfill the aesthetic. How is enhancement of the sight or the feel of the thing in the hand regarded any differently than the taste, feel of the hit off it?

Feels good in the hand, but because of that giant stem, the vape coming out was much cooler than I was used to.

Um. Because that one costs $2500, and by the time you'd destroyed two prototyping a system, then putting all the electronics in a third, and pricing it enough to compensate for the time and labor you put into it, you wouldn't have a buyer willing to spend $10,000. That's just a guess, though.
I chose that only as an example of design. The price of it doesn't matter as I never suggested that specific pipe be converted. A ground up design would be superior in every way. Ecig mods box pipes are an interesting step in the right direction and one of the few designs I would buy. I've spent a lot of time with a good briar too, and as I've said I appreciate the ergonomics, but in my opinion the kuwako goes about it all wrong

Personally I find the kuwako to be vulgar and pointless. I want an improved vaping experience, not silly stick on bits. I've seen epipemods work and while I appreciate the craftsmanship, the pipes there are exactly my problem. They all follow the aesthetic traditions of the briar smoking pipe. If "ecigs" had done the same we'd all still be vaping minis or back on analogs. Now the pipe shape offers in my opinion the best of ergonomics and compact design, my point is simply why not modernize the aesthetics. Not everyone wants to look like Sherlock Holmes

Honestly, I think the modern pipe you link to in your original post is very tacky looking (just my opinion). If I'm gonna get a pipe mod (which I will soon), I want it to be classical in style and definitely wooden. The aesthetic tradition of wooden pipes are exactly that: a tradition.

With that said, everyone has different tastes and it if someone wants a space age-looking pipe, that's totally fine. But you have to understand that everyone has different tastes. If you want an epipe like the one in the picture, contact one of the companies that makes epipes and see if they'll make one for you, but don't knock the people that want something more traditional (which is a lot of people, because the pipes at epipemods and jazz cartopipes sell like hotcakes).

Meh. I had an e pipe. It looked great but I felt like a big douche. I just ordered a ProVari V2 in satin black. I'm looking forward to the features, but even in black, it still looks like all other tube mods; a vibrator. At least my Reo Mini only looks like I'm sucking on a walkie-talkie.

LOL, fair enough, me and you are exactly opposite though. I feel like a douche holding a tube mod. Cant understand them. They look very odd to me when someone is puffing on them. People see me with my pipe and it seems to get zero attention from anyone.
