Just money and health reasons for me. A pack a day, sometimes more, was a lot of money, and I was tired of wheezing after doing any sort of strenuous activity (or even not so strenuous, just walking up a buddy's stairs would wind me). Almost two months later and I've spent probably half (if not less) of what I would have on cigarettes, on vaping, and my lungs feel amazing. Also the flavors, but I think that was more so after the fact.

Sent from my phone, please excuse typos.

Every reason I wanted to quit smoking, is the reason I want to keep vaping.

I was about a 30 cigarette-a-day smoker for 15 years, and it was killing me. I felt terrible. I was spending about $400 a month on smokes -- the same cost as my freakin' mortgage. And as I got older, I bceame incredibly ashamed of my smoking. I knew how bad I smelled, how gross I looked. I was single for a couple of years and realized what a hindrance it was in the dating world. I didn't want to be the woman nobody wanted to kiss because she reeked and tasted like stinky smokes. I did eventually find a really understanding partner earlier this year, but I still felt guilty every time I had to get out of bed to go outside and smoke, and come back in smelling up his place.

But I couldn't stop. Tried everything, and every quit failed. Finally a friend posted on Facebook linking to the Evod. In some degree of desperation, I ordered without knowing much about it.

Had three cigarettes left when it came in the mail. Haven't bought a pack of smokes since. Don't want 'em. Don't need 'em. In under a month of not smoking, already saved my start-up cost. Feel incredibly better. Getting compliments on how I smell now, which I've never ever had in my life. Someone asked what perfume I was wearing the other day -- it was Hawk Sauce with menthol, haha. They thought I was wearing a mint berry perfume and wanted to know where to buy it.

No downsides, all upsides.

Agreed 100%!

Great story! Pretty similar to my own. I think the most drastic change for me really has been smelling better - who could complain?!

Just a word of warning, if you end up being an enthusiast or a hobbyist at vaping you won't save much money. :)

As I am learning :2cool: but I hope to become good enough at brewing my own flavors that I can reclaim some of this investment in the future!

Originally to avoid the severe pain after a dental extraction. Never even thought for a moment about quitting. But vaping is such a superior delivery system for nicotine that I would have to be crazy to go back to smoking ...

Agreed - I've also read some studies that lean towards inhaling pure nicotine to have virtually no long-term side effects, although I'm still on the fence about endorsing this information since nicotine is a toxic substance to an extent. I have to have some wisdom teeth removed, however - and I'm dreading this!

I've been trying to stop smoking for years on end. I've tried literally everything, several times. Patches, lozenges, gums, chantix....everything. Before vaping i was using a patch on weekdays and 3 to 5 packs of cigs on the weekends. Then my weekend smoking starting flowing into the weekdays and I was just wasting a ton of money. Been vaping now for about 3 1/2 weeks and haven't touched an analog, nor will I.

I like everything about vaping. The different devices and juices and the fact that it can be quite techy. I'm quite the geek so I live for that type of stuff.

My obsessive nature has caused me to spend quite a bit of money thus far, but I know from past experience with new hobby's that it will slow way down soon.

Multi decadal struggle of quitting and failing. All other NRT's were useless. I've probably had a couple thousand lozenges the last couple years. That can't be good for my stomach. But I was down to a pack a week. All 20 in one day but still. I found myself obsessing on the weekdays waiting for my "smoke day". I was an awful awful cycle but it was the best I could do at the time.

Had a major relapse on a camping trip and smoked 5 packs in 3 days. Woke up the monday morning after the trip extremely frustrated and started rationalizing that I was better off mentally if I smoked (i have 4 kids too). In a last gasp of desperation I tested out a blu and njoy. I knew from this forum that really good gear existed but I wanted to make sure. My first blu was a fireworks moment. I knew if I could enjoy that then a whole new world opened for me.

I'm whole again. Even better than that actually because shame and guilt are absent when I vape. Life is good!

I actually came very close to chewing that first piece of nic gum myself right when I started vaping - glad I got my PV before I busted the gum out of the foil! I've heard pretty nasty things about the majority of nicotine cessation products, and agree that vaping is much more enjoyable, and I also think that the chances of replacing a smoking habit with vaping has much stronger odds of success when it comes to putting the cigarettes down for good. After all, I loved smoking - if it weren't for the insane costs, I never would have stumbled onto vaping and wouldn't be reaping the countless other benefits.

To live longer. I dodged the bullet for 35 years so I figured it was about time to do something about it. I tried ALL other methods to no avail. I love my mods and I love my new hobby.

I'm glad vaping has provided a much more appealing alternative for you as it has for me!

I've had the same problem - finally, after finding a model that seems durable, I think my vaping costs are beginning to curb. It's important to note though that I've managed to sustain my vaping habit with little knowledge in the very beginning, and have never exceeded the amount I was averaging on cigarettes. $7-$10 a day is just too much for me! Vaping currently is costing me less than $10/week and I could sustain on the materials I have for at least two months at no additional cost, so I'm very pleased.

Thanks for the responses everybody! It's interesting to learn the variances that brought us all here and I hope that everyone has a very positive experience as a member of this community, and as a user of PV's.

Oh wow. Anyone who's done cigarettes probably knows about all the little pleasures that come with them, right? They go really well with coffee, after eating, first thing in the morning, etc.

I've actually been off of cigarettes for several years, but I am unable to go without nicotine entirely. The lozenges … sure, I guess, but they don't have the satisfaction of a nice deep inhale, and a sweeeeet plume on the exhale. Plus they taste lousy with coffee.

Having been off cigs for so long, what struck me the most about vaping is that I am not feeling any side-effects - shortness of breath, hacking, coughing, etc. (I can still do 40 minutes on an exercycle, which tells me all I really need to know about that) - which suggests that we're talking about a good mix of things: A nicotine delivery system that acts and feels a lot like smoking, negligible health effects, and the ability to mix custom flavors.

Plus it's a hell of a conversation starter!

This is my story to a t. When you start making a journal for your experiences with juices and devices you know you have the vape bug, real bad.

First try was to get around an unavoidable stay in a completely non-smoking huge hotel, where I'd have to hike like a mile to have a cigarette.

I "got into them" because
A) They taste a whole lot better than burning leaves+paper+chemicals did
B) They're less likely to kill me

Funny, you mention having to hike a mile to have a smoke. I work in architectural management, so sometimes when I am at project sites, like the Walter Reed National Naval Medical Center, a large hospital campus in Bethesda, MD, I practically cannot smoke on the campus. With ecigs, as long as no military personnel tell me otherwise, this should be yet another benefit to having switched to vaping - no more long walks to the single designated smoking zone on the campus!

Oh wow. Anyone who's done cigarettes probably knows about all the little pleasures that come with them, right? They go really well with coffee, after eating, first thing in the morning, etc.

Vaping with coffee is one of my morning rituals - it isn't quite the same as a cigarette but I've made the adjustment pretty well and it's a lot better than no nicotine with your coffee for a user like me!

This is my story to a t. When you start making a journal for your experiences with juices and devices you know you have the vape bug, real bad.

Indeed; my graph notebook is quickly filling up with recipes as well as reviews of juices I bought before. I'm excited that I'm taking the research that far, however - it's been a while since I filled a classic notebook up with information! It feels like good exercise for the brain.

I've almost entirely quit. The only reason I have taken a drag of a real cig was because my e-cig battery was out. I no longer have any real desire to buy cigs any more. It has been a great replacement of cigs for me, saving me tons of money, tastes good (lol see my other thread about my issue with that) I'm not real clear about the difference it makes in your health, but ingesting 3 ingredients compared to tobacco's many harmful chemicals has already made a difference in my own health. As a lot of people say, your health should be your number one priority. If you smoke cigs, switching can make the world of difference, it did for me.

My husband bought a kit while I was out of state visiting family. He was an ex-smoker, so I found it odd that he would do that. But when I got home, he dragged me to the same store and I walked out with an ego/t2 setup. Never intended to quit smoking...it just happened. I smoked a half pack in the first week that I vaped (mostly when I was drunk), and they gradually tasted worse. Gave away the last half pack and never looked back.

Now I have a setup I love (ego twist and itaste vv 3.0 with 2.4 ohms evod tanks), and am on a juice buying spree... I doubt I'll ever save money, but I'll live longer, and I won't stink!
