Have smoked at least a pack a day, and plenty of times 2 or 3 packs, for around 31+ years and have had numerous attempts at quitting, some slightly successful (6 months cold turkey!!), but I was always miserable and well, I guess you could say not a lot of fun to be around. ;) I had been wanting to try quitting again but always seemed to put it off, you know, maybe tomorrow or after this carton is gone. I am now 48 years old. I've been thinking time is running out for me to quit, I have to find a way.

When I was 18, my mother passed away at 42 from a heart attack, she smoked her entire life, and appeared to be in good health. At that time I had only been smoking for a couple of years.

About six months ago my brother, who is 4 years older than me, called me and advised that he had a heart attack and was heading into surgery for a quadruple bypass and 2 extra stents. He quit smoking over 5 years ago, cold turkey. Surely, this would make me quit, right? Nope, not even close. I thought about it, but never made a real effort, although I did not smoke for a week a few months after his surgery. My brothers surgery was successful and is nearing a complete recovery.

My wife and I started talking about trying Zonnic, some nic gum we'd seen. Figured I'd give it a shot and we went to a few stores but could not find it. Did a search on the net and found it was sold at a convenience store a few blocks away, so we went. Now was it fate, destiny, or just pure luck? I asked the dude behind the counter if they sold the Zonnic, they did and he grabbed a few packs for me. He asked if I was serious about not smoking and if so, I should try vaping. He explained a bunch of stuff to me, even showed me how to do it. Kinda funny he said he wasn't supposed to do it in the store, but dripped a couple of drops and out came a cloud of vapor!! Handed me a card and off I went with the Zonnic.

At the vape shop I wasn't real impressed, so I left empty handed, well except for my pack of analogs. Later that evening I posted about vaping in a football forum I frequent, and a guy gave me a link to Vista Vapors. I went to the site, took them up on their offer, and a few days later had a bottle of liquid and a little starter. Took a hit and have not even thought of having a cigarette since. I have not had an analog since January 23. My wife, who has really never even tried quitting, has not had an analog since Sunday and is not wanting an analog either. She absolutely loves the Mocha juice.

I don't understand it. I have no craving for an analog. I am happy. I feel free. Finally.

Congratulations!

I'm a long time smoker as well, started when I was 14 (and stupid), I'm now approaching 51 and finally seem to have kicked it!

The last couple of days have been the first times I can truly say I don't have any desire for an analog. What an odd feeling that is? I spend a lot of time out on my balcony (it's sort of my office...) and even when I've smelled cigarette smoke today and yesterday, it didn't trigger a craving.

Best of luck on your journey!

Why did I wait so long?

I've asked myself the same thing fifty-eleven times. I don't know how many licks it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop either. But ya know what? We are are enjoying vaping now and that is all that matters. I love stories like this and a big congrats hug to you and your wife. Continued success. Welcome to ecf. I am so glad ya'll are here.

Boy, do I agree with you!! I've been puffing those damn things for 40 years or so and if I'd only had a chance to switch 20 years ago. But, if a frog had wings ya know!
At least I've stopped now and there's always hope that it may extend my life a few years more. I try to tell my kids and friends but I can't twist their arms. The vaping works for me and if it works for me, it will work for anyone. I had given up on quiting, I didn't want to! I LOVED SMOKING and now I hate cigarettes. They stink and I can smell it on my girlfriend's daughter and she fricking stinks!!!! And like you, I am free of the ....ing things!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks to everyone for the kind words, it is very appreciated.

And howdy to mcol, nice to see someone nearby on the board! Yep, great weather here in Joplin, will take it for sure knowing it's not going to last long.

One part I meant to add to my op is that my youngest daughter (yikes, somehow she is now 26!) has been trying to get us to try vaping for at least a couple of years. I never really considered it since I had heard all of the "horror" stories about what was in the stuff. Glad I got educated.

First the first time ever, this family is 100% smoke free. Youngest daughter has been smoke free for a few years, and has never vaped (to my knowledge). Oldest daughter and her husband quit about a year ago, neither vape. My brother, mother-in-law, and now us. Pretty amazing.
