Why do e-liquids taste burned? Is it the atomizer, juice, or ohm/voltage??

Hey fellow vapers,

I've been having a problem with my juices tasting burned and I can't seem to figure this out. I've been using a Kanger ProTank II with my Sigelei mod and Mini ProTank II with my eGo-C upgrade (not twist). I noticed that both these tanks came with a 1.8 ohm and 2.5 ohm atty. The 1.8 ohm burns louder and gets a much better vape and the 2.5 ohm atty hits pretty weak on the eGo mini. For my Sigelei+PT II, I can't really seem to tell much of a difference between the two attys.

But for some reason, I've been getting a burnt taste for both of these e-cigs. I've been vaping 2 different juices and they both end up tasting burned. I switched to a brand new atty on both devices, and by the end of the day it tastes badly burnt. Is it the juice that's burning? If so, why? Is it too thin or something?

Any help would be appreciated. TIA!

Since you're using fixed voltage batteries, you need to control the "variable voltage" with your thumb...:laugh:

When you take a draw, fire the button 1/2 a second before you start to inhale. The once you start to draw, let go of the fire button for 1/2 a second about midway through. Continue drawing the vapor into your mouth, letting go of the button 1/2 second before completing the inhale. (sounds more complicated written out than it actually is...:ohmy:)

If the vape is still too hot, burning add a second pause of firing with each draw, pulse the button a bit.

Pressing the button a bit early helps heat up the coil to get it ready. The break 1/2 way through cools the coil, and draws in a bit extra juice. Letting go just before you finish cools the coil and draws in a bit of extra juice for your next puff. With a little practice you can control the heat of whatever you're using at whatever ohms you're using to produce a flavorful vape...:vapor:

Great advice and it does work...... just remember.... if you vape too long with the burnt taste your juice in the tank might need to be replaced.

On the upgrade, Are you in constant or variable mode? If in variable a full charged battery is going to put out 4.15v initially which will give you 9.5watts which is way too high with the 1.8ohm atty and 6.8watts with the 2.5ohm atty. But as the battery discharges, so the power will become smaller too. If you use constant your voltage is 3.3v you'll get 6.05watts at 1.8 ohms and 4.35watts at 2.5ohms. You want to be between 4 and 8 watts typically, the higher the power the warmer it gets and taste may not be as strong as it may be burning out.

Agree with the suggestions. To add some, taking long drawn out hits allows the coil to really heat up and in turn it burns the liquid. It's a byproduct of the coil not getting enough juice and drying out. You can also try plugging one or more of the air holes on the PTII to create a tighter draw and more suction which will force more juice to the coil. A lot of people aren't a fan of the tighter draw, and if you're one of them, you can still use the button tapping methods described above to allow the coil to cool a little and more juice to get to it. Awesome advice. Thanks everyone!

So to summarize --

1. When using the eGo-C Upgrade, use the constant voltage option (orange light). I think I read that it outputs 3.7v though. Unfortunately, can't do this on my mod unless I put in a kick.

2. Press the button 1 second before inhaling, and inhale 1 second longer after releasing the button. I actually think I've been doing this, but maybe I'll pay closer attention to doing this.

3. I can also "pulse" the button when taking a drag to keep the coil cool.

4. The last option for me would be to plug one of the air vents. I actually would not prefer to do this because I like the airyness of the draw.

5. With a 1.8ohm atomizer, fire between 3.3-3.7 volts. For my 2.5 ohm, run between 3.7+.


I just did a quick search for this topic and found many different answers. However, I think these sound the most logical and effective.

Although flammable, juice does not burn in an atomizer. It evaporates, I can vape any juice at 20 + watts without any burnt taste what so ever.

On the other hand, wicks can go dry if they are not properly fed and this will lead to an harsh and burnt flavor. The protanks have the reputation of not wicking well, especially with thicker (higher VG) liquids, mainly because of the "flavor" wicks that get in the way.

You might want to remove some of these wicks.

There is tons of videos out there that can show you how to do that if you don't know how.

How in the hell are you getting 20 watts? And secondly why would you ever want that much power? Something didn't add up right to me...
