why do I feel so many vapers like to "collect" and hoard PVs?

I like shiny, new things. But seriously, I'll often get the "latest and greatest" juice, tank, etc only to find out that 1/3 new things are really going to be worth a darn long term. That is changing a little bit now that I am into Kayfuns, RDAs and the like and moved away from PTs, T3s, EVODs and blah blah blah.

It's a hobby for many of us (here on ECF), and sometimes you just want something new. And to the people here that used to have an obsession with collecting tobacco pipes....I'm glad to see that I wasn't alone. I used to spend an awful lot of time on ebay hunting down nice estate pipes. It only makes sense that I'm starting to acquire mods in the same fashion. :)

In response to post #80 and #82, I know it has been a hot topic about noobs getting RBA's, I don't care much for the whole sub-ohm thing myself, but it would be a good idea for them to learn how to build a single coil on an RBA, in the 1.8 to 2.0 ohm range, for just in case Big Brother does decide to come down on ecigs. Learning to DIY juice is a good idea too. I see regulation coming for nicotine and gas station cigalikes, but how will they regulate RBAs, organic cotton, atomizers, tanks, kanthal, vegetable glycerine, Lor Ann, mods, and batteries? All of these things (except atomizers and RBAs) have other uses. Doesn't E*ay have a policy on ecigs and related? Apparently, there is a workaround :)

I started with RN-4081 batteries and pre-filled cartomizers (16mg nic). That was almost 2 1/2 years ago. Today I still use RN-4081s but I refill used cartomizers. My wife (who started vaping when I did) still likes the pre-filled cartos, which is fine with me ... I have a steady supply of cartos that way.

Thanks to the FDA's saber-rattlings, the only thing I hoard is e-juice. If the FDA decides to tax it, I have about two years worth in the freezer. On occasion, I buy a 5-pack of replacement batteries, but not much more than that.

I was a collector of different mods while I was flavor chasing. I just couldn't find a set up that satisfied me that didn't require a lot of fiddling, until I tried my first REO. Now I'm definitely a collector of REO's and hopefully soon, OliveR Dibi's.

Bottom fed dripping satisfies all my needs. :)

Beautiful Reo you've got there. BTW, I used egos for about a year before getting into bottom feeders and they were a game changer for me as well.

The people that I know that haven't stuck with vaping, a few friends, family members and neighbors as far as I know never really got involved in forums or in purchasing different pvs, apv, etc. They tried vaping, and either lost interest or had some hardware of liquid issues and quit.

Just a theory, but turning it into a bit of a hobby and might keep people motivated and stick with vaping.

Thank you! And I have to agree with you on your theory.

I myself only use my mech mod now. i have a ego twist or two from when i started vaping and a few cartos for back ups but other than that i only see a point to getting a VW mod and another RDA.
I see a good point in the stocking up in Kanthal and Liquids, but i know vg wont become hard to find. Flavorings i don't know a thing about as well as pG, so i cant speak for the DIY juices. but the wire i myself wish i had more.

Is vaping more of a hobby then?

Maybe for some, but not for me. I own just about everything eCig... but that's because for me it's been a QUEST to find my personal Vaping Nirvana.. which unfortunately, is quite elusive, very subjective, and for most people, ever evolving. ;)

Yeah, a handful of my friends are back to smoking. Most common response when I ask how come no more vaping, "PITA to get stuff working right, cigs are more dependable." I sort of understand though, they used the same liquid from day one, never had interest with other flavors, devices or toppers. Forget checking ohms or boiling cotton, they got into vaping with the mindset that their device would work flawlessly until one day they woke up and decided to stop vaping/smoking altogether.

I have an SVD and an ego. That's it. They work and I like them both. Tanks are another thing. I have about 12 but they have a purpose. I use different ones for different flavors. That way I dont have to clean them out to change flavors. I just unscrew one and screw on another to change flavors. Other than that, not much in the old bag of tricks! I know it seems dull but I have enough junk around my house. I don't need another stash of stuff!

Vaping has certainly become a hobby for me, but it has nothing to do with "distracting" myself in order to stay away from cigarettes, as some have suggested. It also has nothing to do with finding the "perfect vape". I quit smoking with a Kanger carto and an 808 auto battery.

I became excited about vape gear again when manufacturers began to really step up the aesthetic appeal. I enjoy putting together, and collecting attractive set ups, that of course function well, in addition to looking handsome. :)
