why do I still want a cigarette so bad??

In the mail today I got my kit from V4L. I got the kit with the personal charging case, a passthru, and I got an extra battery (actually ended up getting 2 extra batteries. They didn't have the lavender battery that I ordered, so instead they sent me 2 white batteries. I'm not sure how I feel about that). They also sent me 5 extra cartos (4 cappuccino and 1 apple).

Anyway, I've been puffing away since I got the kit, trying all the new flavors. I was so excited that when my husband left for work, he took the carton of cigarettes with him, leaving me none. I was fine for a while, but now I want to throw this glowing green stick across the room and light up the old fashioned way. I mean, it HAS been several hours, so I think I'm doing pretty good..

Is this normal? Do you have to wean yourself, or did most of you just quit the cancer sticks as soon as you got your e-cig in?

I started vaping hoping to cut back from 2+ pad to 1 pad. so I vaped and smoked. if I wanted a cig, I vaped for a while and then if I still wanted the cig, I had it. for the difficult times (mornings, after eating, etc) the first few days I waited 10 min before I had the cig, the next few days I waited 15, etc, until soon my first cig of the day was at 1 in the afternoon. always vaping while waiting. I slowly and easily went down to 2 cigs a day. I am still there by choice, I am old and never really wanted to stop smoking completely. however if I find that I start having 3 or more cigs a day I will have to go to -0-.

I have a neighbor who stopped smoking 30 yrs ago. he told me he still craves them :(

I got my first kit on May 6 this year.....used it three days and put it in a drawer and went back to my pack a day habit with no regrets....decided for whatever reason just a feeling that I needed to finally commit to qutting analogs and have been analog free since Nov 22.......sometime it just takes some time....when your ready to commit you'll know I believe....

about a year ago, I bought a Riva 510. I liked it for a short time, but never totally quit smoking, and it ended up hurting my chest too bad. (After discussing it here, I've concluded that it was likely because I was using 100% PG juice, which I am evidently sensitive to.) It just didn't feel like I was smoking.

So, I gave it up, and finally just got this pen-style PV. It does feel more like a cigarette, which is nice. But it's like my body just *knows* that it isn't a real cig. lol

I'm ok with weaning myself off of cigs. But my hubby gives me SUCH a hard time (Although he has no room to talk, as he smokes 3 packs/day and refuses to even try an e-cig). He thinks I'm wasting my money on e-cigs because I have yet to drop analogs.

Some people need to start with tobacco flavors to not have cravings. I did. Some others feel they need to avoid tobacco flavors when they start because they are reminded of cigarettes. And some can vape any flavor to start and be satisfied. You should figure out which you are and then try more flavors (more tobaccos or more non - whichever is what satisfies you now). Later you will probably be satisfied with many flavors.

You need to smell the vapor. Cigarettes dump their smell all of you but ecigs don't unless you remember to smellt eh vapor. The tongue can only taste sweet, salty, bitter, sour and umami/savory (msg). Everything else is aroma.

You may need higher nicotine or a stronger ecig if your hit is not strong enough for you. And the only thing stronger/hotter than V4L is to move to fat batteries and mods so you can use lower resistance cartos. A V4L is 3.7v and their WOW cartos are around 2.5ohm so that's the limit of heat you can safely get out of a slim model.

If you chose auto batteries, try a manual which is what most here use and recommend. besides being harder to damage/kill with juice leaks, a manual will get you get the best hit possible every time. You press the button in 1-2 seconds before starting your drag so nice vaping is waiting, drag slowly, let up button just before the end of your drag, then inhale.

I have been vaping for over two years can honestly say that I have had no desire for a cigarette for probably a month or two less than that. But the craving did not go way instantly. Ecigs don't give as much instant gratification as a cigarette does. They have gotten better at mimicking that burning in the back of the throat sensation, but without actually burning anything, there is still something missing. Research has also proven that smokers are addicted to more chemicals in cigarettes than just nicotine. Simply replacing the nicotine doesn't entirely eliminate the cigarette addiction, but it makes it far easier to deal with. Finally, your mind is still telling you that you need a cigarette and after one day is not convinced that you can do without one, ecig or no ecig. Knowing that your husband took the cigarettes makes that problem seem that much more urgent.

I quit after only four or five days with an electronic cigarette, but there's no way I could have done it in a day. I was just too psychologically dependent on the fact that I needed a cigarette every so often. I overcame it by replacing cigarettes with ecigs one smoke trigger at a time - today the drive to work smoke, tomorrow the after dinner smoke, then the morning smoke, etc. After a few days, I had replaced the need for a cigarette with the knowledge that an ecig would be acceptable.

Give it a little more time and best of luck!

BTW, the 36mg is high and should be enough nic to satisfy.

It took me about 2 weeks to do the switch over. The first week was mostly analogs. By the end of the second week I was down to a couple of analogs a day. I have been off the nasty sticks since Nov 13th, 2011 and haven't missed them at all.
Just do what works for you and hopefully your other half will try it too.

It took me a few months to switch over 100%. I was smoking less and less. I was a 2 pack smokers. I got down to 6 then one Saturday at 7:30 pm I realized I hadn't smoked all day and didn't want one. It randomly happened.

A week later I tried an anaolog it was so gross I actually don't think I will smoke again

As 1.5 PAD smoker, I had a pack when I got my kit. I rationed them at 3-4 per day with e-cigs until I had 3 left. Then I challenged myself to go 3 days without one. I made it 7 days and then tried a cigarette and found I didn't want it. It tasted horrible compared to the e-cig. From then it was smooth sailing on e-cigs. I tried a few more drags over the next week and saved the very last one for over a month and finally forced myself to smoke it. I needed a break from smokes to truly appreciate e-cigs.

Don't rush yourself, every cigarette you don't smoke is a win and some people wean themselves off and others cold turkey. Make it an enjoyable transition. E-cigs and the multitude of e-liquid flavors are pretty cool, but you have to find the right equipment and flavor for you. It's a very individual, subjective, life/vape style process.

I hope your husband will be more supportive, but you can always come here 24/7 for some encouragement.

I'd recommend switching to American Spirits if you continue to smoke and vape. They have less of those nasty chemicals you may be addicted to and will make the transition easier.

Holy crap Heather you are starting on 36mg? Most places don't even sell 36 and many don't sell 30 (and yes V4L sells both). The typical starting levels are 18-24mg. Can you even get decent satisfying drags with 36 or are you talking little sips? IMO get a more reasonable level you can get nice drags of it. And since V4L cartos can get hot on the lips (especially the WOW ones I like), I recommend a plastic or delrin drip tip as a cool mouthpiece which will also give you a wider stream of vapor and be easy to pull out for checking the stuffing or adding juice (with the carto off the battery). I also reacommend you try SmokelessImage or Bloogplanet or Halocigs G6 cartomizers which are very nice horizontal coil ones.

Re drip tips - V4L may have their black delrin (I do not recommend metal drip tips on cartos with a central wire that pokes up). LiteCigUSA.net - I use the plain clear colored ones (the swirled color ones were a bit tight but worked). And Gotvapes has nice Marbled vase ones, and I think their clear vases also fit the KR8/V4L cartos but were too tight in my 510 model's Boge cartos.

I would like to start this post by saying MY OPINION ONLY!!! I found that the liquid i got from V4L did not satisfy my cravings!!! I went from using High Caliber e-liquid from altsmoke.com to V4L's line of juice and the cravings hit me hard. The Red and White flavor even at only 6mg nic is the only liquid that has kept me off analogs. Yes it is MY OPINION ONLY, but i believe that a good, high quality , good flavored, good TH liquid is the only way to stay on the path to stay off analogs. Find your liquid and stick with it!! I went to myvaporstore.com and ordered 180ml of High Caliber red and white, The cravings havent come back and im very happy now!! Good luck, and Happy Vaping!!!

Yeah, I'm taking pretty tiny puffs because it makes me feel like my lungs might collapse, otherwise. lol. I don't remember ever indicating what strength of nic I wanted when I ordered. I have some juice I got for xmas that I'm dying to try (24mg), but I didn't think to get any blank cartos when ordering.

Speaking of, do I have to get cartos specifically from there, or can I get different ones? I'm pretty sure I've seen some cheaper.

I think if you really want a cigarette, you should have one. I vaped and smoked for about 3 months before I finally decided "thats it" I don't even remember what day it was that I had my last cigarette. About 2 months after the last cigarette, I had been thinking on and off for 2-3 days that I would really like a cigarette (I kept a pack just in case), so I lit one up. YUCK, tasted terrible, put it out, took the ashtray outside, washed my hands, brushed my teeth, and I've never looked back. It took some time to develop the habit, its okay if it takes some time to break it.
