Pushing a car to the limit is quite like sport vaping, not at all like a junky Toyota...

The limits of what??

Do you have some facts you'd like to share with the class??

I'm not a doctors but if these people using TC are not smoking and feel better I'd call it a win.

Why do you think they are losing??

Someone said they need TC to push their device to the limit. Would that not be sport vaping, and akin to driving an Audi on the turnpike at 160mph?

No even in the slightest.

First of all those are ugly cars so the drivers tastes are already in question but more importantly if they fail the "test" they could kill a school bus full of kids.

If one is taking something to the limit, it isn't to get from point A to point B...

Of coarse not.

I think alot of old time vaper don't understand the new stuff. I'm vaping on a 100w mod as I type. The mere words 100w make many hide under the covers. Tears rolling out of there eyes they post on forums about how super scary they are. But I just like the extra battery life. Its nutten to be scared of, its only on 50w.

One of my TC boxes is a little iStick. They are very popular (work very well too it the best of my TC units). Anyone using a iStick isn't exactly "pushing the limits".

I am vaping a 200W mod right now - at 12.5W. Why? Why not?

I am also using a computer capable of rendering and displaying complex 3D scenes in high resolution in real time, while at the same time analyzing pulsar data gathered from gravitational-wave detectors on the other side of the world - but right now I use it just to write some silly words on a vaping forum. Why? Why not? If using it to its full ability all the time was a requirement, I wouldn't have bought it to begin with.

I'm sitting in a room that could probably fit fifty people, if everybody was standing. I am alone in the room at the moment, and I'm taking up less than a square meter. What a waste.

An Istick 40TC is your best TC unit? Interesting. What other TC mods have you tried?

    Odd thread.

TC mods are for convenience. All those variables we've learned to deal with before TC are dealt with for you.
I just got my first TC setup, and I can now do EVERYthing I used to do using a large variety of different gear with ONE setup.

If I wanted pure flavor, nothing matched a good drip atty (The HH357 is myfave). But I had to give up the convenience of a tank for the flavor.
If I wanted the convenience of a tank, and DECENT flavor, I had to build my own coils, change the wicks, all that. If I wanted to tootle, that was one setup. If I wanted a cloud, another.

I just got my first TC setup. The IPV4s and Uwell Crown tank.
The flavor is every bit as good as that drip atty, no, BETTER. 2 18650 batts let me go 2 days without changeout.
With TC, if I want to tootle, I hold the button for a couple seconds. High joules let me get RIGHT to my favorite temp very quickly.
If I want to blow clouds? I simply hold the button longer. The longer I hold it, the bigger the cloud. No worries about heat and spitback. SO simple.
And when the wick gets funky, I just unscrew the OCC coil, toss it in the trash, and for 2 bucks I screw in another and immediately have the exact same setup I just had.
If I WANT to play around with different setups, or save money, I buy the RBA head for the tank. And when it gets funky, I can rebuild it, or throw in a new OCC coil, and rebuild when I have the time to do it, at my convenience. Or buy 2 RBA heads and one is always ready to go. Saving money, and convenience.

Veteran or Noob, what's not to like about all that?

My Dad had a new 77 Thunderbird, pulled it out the garage, in those days you had to lower the garage yourself, some did have openers but they were few. So anyway he parks gets out to lower the door; while a neighbor was taking out his garbage to the alley. Well that stinkin automatic transmission dun shifted itself into reverse and the throttle somehow engaged to the floor and it crashed through the neighbors garage and crushed him under it, his garbage went flying everywhere.. He loved telling that part of the story...

    Down with automatic transmissions..:nah:
TC is automatic transmission and we know how that goes ...

He was fine, broken leg, huge check later, oh yeah he was loving that occurrence..

We'll said! I don't understand the "never tried it don't like it" statements. What if it's better or easier or the flavor profile and volume now are doable... What's wrong with that???

    Disagree:
Yes those variables effect the quality of the vape, but they're the same with or without TC. TC only controls the temp of the coil, it has no idea what juice you're using, or how long a draw you take. In the end, adjusting the temp. is no different than adjusting the voltage.

There have been some sad early examples of temp control so I'm not sure if you are judging it based on that, but the current devices do indeed know those things, or rather they know the effect those things have on coil temp. VV/VW devices do not.

When you change your voltage setting on a standard device you have achieved a specific and fixed power level. When you fire your device it will fire at that same power level the entire time. Tons of other variables (previously mentioned) will have a large effect on temperature, so even with the same voltage setting you are going to get widely varying temperatures at the coil. You keep your resistance and voltage the same, but change your draw and your temp changes as a result. You change your juice and your temp changes as a result. You take a long puff and the temp increases as a result. Plenty more things that cause temp to change.

When you have a TC device it is actively and continuously monitoring the coil while you are firing. The device doesn't know what juice you are using, or how long a puff you take, but it does detect those effects on coil temperature, that's the point.

If you take a longer puff and dry the wick out, the device knows because it is actively detecting coil temperature, watching it go higher, and then lowering voltage when the temp reaches your set limit. The SXM will even cut power completely and say "dry coil" and guess what? It's right!

If you have been chain vaping and your atty is hot, and it's a hot day outside, the coil comes up to temp faster but then maintains temp once it hits your setting, it doesn't keep getting hotter. Nothing like that happens with a standard device. You changing your voltage settings has no comparison whatsoever to what is going on with a TC device while firing.

You are entitled to your opinion on the utility and value of TC, but TC functions differently than simple wattage settings and that's a fact regardless of anyone's opinion.

That doesn't answer the question as to why one would want or need it... For sport vaping, for the inexperienced, for those who need to have the newest toy? It can't be for the best vape, as there are too many variables to set it and forget it...

Several of us have attempted to explain it. We can't make you read or accept the answer.

Hay, we're not stupid. We all know that it functions differently. What we are saying tho' is that TC doesn't do a damn thing that you can't do for yourself.
So the only real question is do you want to do it for yourself, or do you want the PV to do it for you?

We went through this exact same discussion years ago about the benefits of regulated/unregulated PVs.

I would like you to try it again on something other than a long ago incarnation of the DNA40 :). The newer ones are still glitchy, but at least you can lock the resistance now. If you have the opportunity, please borrow one. I won't tell you to buy one because I understand its not something you think you want.

I have at least 40 rebuildable attys (yes, I'm insane). I have several vw mods and mech mods. I can build rather well for both types of mods :). I spend most of my time here on the forum helping others with theirs. And yet, I have come to realize I do like tc after all, especially now that there's titanium modes. My nickel allergy is bad enough I wasn't willing to try it. I certainly won't build all of my attys for tc. I think the tri coil Gus Estia might be a nightmare to try. My quad vertical in another tank would probably be a disaster. However, I think the technology is worthwhile and works well with many of my attys. And I don't plan on giving up my mechs either. But, I am enjoying tc now, and as mods need to be replaced I'll be thinking about what future technology can do for my vaping.

I completely understand that, that's why I'm saying you can't do it yourself. You can't adjust power while your device is firing. That's what a TC device (a proper one) does. Without that ability the coil temp is going to be all over the place.

I'm not saying that non-TC devices are junk or outdated, but it's not just a matter of convenience. Regardless of a person's skill or experience they can't do what a TC device can. Monitoring coil temp and adjusting power on a continual basis to maintain a specific temp isn't possible with all the vaping knowledge in the world, it requires a board.

I most certainly can, It's my finger that's on the fire button after all, and it's my mouth that has the drip tip in it.

Help me understand that. So you actually release and press the fire button while drawing on the drip tip? Or do you inhale more when you feel it getting hotter? Most folks don't use either method, that I know anyway. I think they are saying if you are just doing a straight 5 second draw the coil is getting hotter regardless of how hard you draw because of the constant non varied wattage. If I am misunderstanding please clarify how you vape.
