IMO the biggest part of why some people feel this way is the possible ammunition the situation could give to anti vape groups and governments. If you have not already read this thread; Big news coming out of FDA, that would give you some idea of what vapers in the US are up against in the near future.

Also, this sub-forum will give you more information about what is happening; FDA Regulations.

I can't speak for people who do but I don't. There are a lot of habits that are worse than vaping.

I vape to stay off the tobacco habit. Some just like big clouds. It's none of my business what other people do as long as they're not hurting anyone else.

Having been an ex-smoker, you generally learn a habit of what society is accepting of, smoke here, don't smoke here, don't smoke near or around children, many things that it is almost an etiquette. I've seen people start vaping just to loose weight, 0mg nic, liquids they vape are fruits, candies, bakery, savory flavors to curb their sweet tooth and it works well. The biggest group I teeter on the fence about are the younger generation coming in, not many if any at all had to deal with the etiquette a smoker has to live with to smoke, and they are about who can pee the furthest to the urinal competition mentality, and so with vaping it is how quickly they can cloud up an area seeing who can blow the biggest cloud, to Joe Q and Jane P Public this is offensive a lot of times. We need the general public with us, not against us presently.

Still, 18 and an adult, who am I to call foul on your rights to do what you will, it's when your rights impact against mine, there we have a problem Houston...

why are non-smokers who vape looked down on so much?
Herd instinct. No dare to be different mentality. Cheer up, the folks who lay this trip on you are benial caveman succumbing to primal instincts. Just consider the source.
Just the opposite with me. If the non smoker knows the risk, good for them. Vaping is enjoying one of lifes (not many out there) greatest pleasure. Go for it. Vaping needs all the support it can get.

personally, I don't see any good logical reasons to start vaping other than to get off cigarettes.

however, if there are good logical reasons, I would be curious what they would be?
Personally, vaping helps me to relax and unwind when I'm feeling stressed or anxious. I vape 0mg juice so nicotine has nothing to do with it. The act of vaping is just oddly soothing. Also, vaping those huge clouds is rewarding in a weird sort of way.

Perhaps these aren't logical reasons to you or maybe they are. It's really just a matter of perspective.

Nor do I, gandymarsh. In fact, my personal opinion is that the more vapers out there, the better.

Nermally I would agree with you.:)

But I dont think everything thats happening right now in vaping is positive. Not by a long shot.

I remember when I first came to these forums and they were decidedly different back then.

People were a lot more cautious for one thing.

And it seems that those who made it here were much better informed. I think part of that is because they actually had to research the subject instead of having some guy at a vaper shop give them a 10 minute crash course in vaping.

You know the one, where joe smoe off the streets walks in and immediately becomes an expert on all things vapng afterwards.

As far as why some of us look down on non-smokers who vape?

Thats easy and it was answered in the other controversial thread the OP started. Many non-smokers who vape see it as nothing more than a hobby.

They dont have as much to lose as we do and therefore many of them take foolish chances that we wouldnt.

If the FDA bans vaping tomorrow they can just find another hobby, while some of us are looking at cancer, copd and lung disease.

well said @zapped ... there are a lot of ex-smokers who need vaping ... it is the only thing that works to stay off cigarettes.

the never smoked hobbyist cannot even relate to why or what we are trying to protect.

yeah, I am protecting my lungs from smoking
can't protect my brain though .. that was shot a long time ago.
I don't have anything against non smokers wanting to vape as long as they don't hurt it for the rest of us long time ex-smokers.

Nothing wrong with this. Vaping is just your thing to focus on and take your mind off everything else. Stress is more deadly than vaping, so if vaping relieves stress then vape on

WhiteWolf, I'm a bit confused. You mentioned, in another thread you started, that you think it would be unwise to tell your family that you vape. You also asked for advice about set ups that are as different as cheese and chalk: a hybrid mech mod and an eGo One - in each case, saying that you don't really vape. Here you imply that you do really vape -- not for nic, but as a stress reliever and because the clouds are "rewarding." And now you are asking why anyone would be critical of a non smoker who takes up vaping. Will you please tie this together for us?

ETA - I'm not trying to call you out. I am truly confused.

If its like other hobbies more than half of them will end up moving on to the next greatest thing anyway.

I have no problem with people vaping who never smoked, the problem is when they vape nicotine. They have no idea what their getting themselves in to. I never smoked alot at all, 3-4 cigarettes a day max. I started vaping to prevent smoking going to far. I stay physcislly fit and I didn't want smoking to catch up to me and ruin that.

A friend of mine has never smoked, aside from trying a couple cigs, and he loves to vape. I don't care if someone vapes to get off smokes or vapes to vape, either way they are doing the same thing I'm doing so who am I to say anything about it? We don't judge people on their gear/set up so why judge them on being an ex smoker or not?
