Why do vapers expect to be treated differently than smokers?

Well, you'll get a ticket on certain college campuses for vaping in your car in any of their parking lots.
And you'll get asked to leave if smoking in your car in some hospital parking lots.

I'm not sure exactly what they'll do to you in certain state parks, but I'm guessing a citation is possibly involved.
On certain beaches you will definitely get a ticket though.

I'm glad you're okay with that, but get ready for it to get worse.
Because it gets worse every year.

I live in socal, so the laws are the same as yours in SD.

well if they don't allow it.. and there is a designated area.. What's the problem?

why push your habits on others?
I'm not even going to address your question, because I might go ballistic.

Instead I'll just say that there is no designated smoking area in some of the following places...
--Entire hospital campuses
--Entire college campuses
--Entire state parks

You're fine with that? Really?

The designated areas are disappearing. That's the problem. They're putting smokers into a smaller and smaller box until eventually they'll simply imprison all smokers. Ok, maybe slight exaggeration. Or, is it? I just know what it feels like.

Bad habits? It's called being human and having a right to relax and be yourself as long as you're not harming anyone.

I just keep wanting to answer the question asked in the title with:
I know, I've been thinking the same thing myself...

The answer is really simply, and should not take a 200+ post thread.
And the answer is... because WE ARE NOT SMOKING.

Any argument against that simple conclusion is horse crap.

What's your point?

that you are exaggerating the designated spots where you can smoke.

All the places you mentioned have designated smoking spots.

Yes, I agree that they have made it harder for us to smoke, but it is still there.

Smoking and vaping is our choice... pls remember that.

But to vape where we shouldn't, and know we shouldn't... well... what can I say?

it will ban us fast like cig users.

I don't want it, but honestly.. that's where this is heading if you guys keep smoking where "we" know we shouldn't.

I am getting so tired of being demonized because I vape and it LOOKS like smoking to those who choose to remain ignorant about it.

That's why you ignore ignorant ppl like that.

ppl that judge others quickly aren't exactly the type of ppl I care to know or get to know.

I will say it bothers me though.

that you are exaggerating the designated spots where you can smoke.
First of all, it seems you are just worried about where you live.
Which means you don't get my point regarding the constantly spreading anti-smoking legislation.

And second, you are wrong...
UC San Diego To Go Smoke Free | KPBS.org

SAN DIEGO — It’s illegal in San Diego to smoke in a public park, on the beach, or even at a Padres game.

But people can still light up on the campuses of the city’s two largest universities: San Diego State, and UC San Diego.

That’s about to change.

On a sunny afternoon at UC San Diego, just steps away from the library, students grab a quick smoke before hitting the books.

Smoking is permitted on campus, under certain restrictions.

People can’t smoke indoors, or within 25 feet of an entryway.

Smoking is allowed at an area near the library, in parking lots, and on campus sidewalks and pathways.

That’s all going to end on September 1, when UC San Diego will go completely smoke free.

Vice Chancellor Karen Calfas is in charge of all of the wellness-related services for UCSD students. She said a few years ago, some students came up with the idea of limiting smoking to just a few areas on campus.

"But then in 2011, there was a meeting at the office of the president for the whole system of the UC," Calfas recalled. "And we were discussing a different type of wellness initiative, and smoking came up. And the question arose, why are we still smoking on campus? And, we all thought, we shouldn’t be."

Petco Park eliminated their designated smoking areas quite awhile ago.
I have to stealth vape every time I go there now.

I don't agree that people should just vape wherever they want to either...

But you implored people to not vape where they can't smoke.
That's a big difference there.

I just really want people to realize where that concept will lead us.

Rather than accepting it, I think we have to fight it.
At least when it goes way too far.

First let me say that I did not read all 22 pages of this post, I got about 15 pages in.

I work at a hotel in San Francisco ( home of the most extreme anti smokers ) I'm lucky that I spend part of my night in an office in the basement by myself and that my boss said I could vape down here for now. Other times I do go to the smoking area but sit as far away from smokers as possible. There are only a couple of other vapers that work here for now, but I am thinking of asking if we could have a place to vape away from smoker.

Tonight I was in the lobby and two vapers came in vaping away on cigalikes. I did approach them and asked them to stealth vape in our public space. I did that because we have had complaints about vapers before.

there are designated spots where you can smoke/vape. Don't be a douche and impose on other ppl.

Sorry but you vapers that vape where you "know" your not supposed to, give us a bad rep.

You are part of the problem. Your actions tell everyone that vaping and smoking are the exact same thing and equally dangerous to be around. ANTZ groups like ASH, who want vaping banned and/or severely restricted are making the same arguements about vaping. They are actively looking for those who vape to join them in their efforts against the danger of vaping. They have a web site and make it easy to join.

When you can't even get the terminolgy correct "if you guys keep smoking", that speaks volumes.

Segregating smokers is predicated on the belief that second hand smoke is harmful. Since vaping has no harmful second hand smoke, it's illogical to lump the two together.

If we vape openly but respectfully it accomplishes two goals: it does not offend others by being discourtesy about their personal space and it educates the uninformed that vaping is NOT smoking and is not dangerous to those near by.

To act like vaping is the same as smoking is just supporting the extremists who want vaping banned and/or severely restricted.

You're wrong about that. Our local hospital and college campus are both completely non-smoking. You're not even allowed to smoke in your car. You have to leave the premises...

I started vaping indoors now when I always used to smoke on our balcony, my girlfriends not particularly happy about that!

If we are unable to convince even our significant others, the practice is doomed. That's a shame.
Perhaps the most unfortunate part, if smokers don't understand the practice is healthier and vaping is treated like smoking, why quit?
We know why, but we're vapers, converting others is just going to be more difficult. :(

...airports and I could barely stand those rooms as it is. I can wait.

Vapers don't HAVE to be around smokers, they choose to.

Airport smoking rooms, while appreciated, are NASTY!

I have no issue being around smokers outside (I still smoke a little) but to be forced into an enclosed space with them just to vape would seem to defeat the purpose of vaping instead of smoking.
