Hello everyone,
I have been vaping for a little over a year now (so not a complete noob). I have been having an issue lately where all of my builds taste burnt after a few hits, this is regardless of the type of juice I use, or the type of cotton. I have also tried a couple of different variations of coil builds and still the same thing I'm really at a loss to what I am doing wrong...I feel like I have tried everything yet to no avail...no matter what I try it tastes as though I am vamping burnt cotton.
Just to give you all an idea of what I have tried so far: new cotton (including organic and cotton bacon), new coils, different juice flavors/ brands and pg/vg ratio, and also cleaning my entire mod as well as ensuring my hands are completely clean before handling the cotton when re-wicking...
Any and all help is greatly appreciated...I just want to get back to the enjoyable experience I had before this started happening a few weeks ago!

I have also included a photo of my latest set up if that helps in troubleshooting the problem...

What is the resistance reading on your build? Does it glow evenly from the inside out with no hots spots or hot legs?

Right off the bat it looks like you don't have enough wick density. With a thick wire build like that, you have to go a little heavier on the wick. Get the wicks in there tighter, but not so it's pulling the coils when you thread it through.

Word of caution: I'm assuming it's a pretty low build based on the wire thickness and amount of wire. Make sure you have an ohm meter. You don't want to be going too low on a single battery mechanical.

This build is reading at .5 OHMS, and yes it is firing evenly from the center, no hot spots...

I'm going to re-wick thicker now and see if it helps...

So what has changed?

Oh, is it that it's your first build?

If nothing has changed then maybe it's your tastebuds getting better.

I know this may sound Counterintuitive, but sometimes if you are getting Dry Hits, it's Better to use Less Cotton than More Cotton. But YMMV. And you just have to Fine what works best for your e-Liquid VG to PG Ratios.

Other things that can Help is Building Bigger Diameter Coils. And Adding a Few Drops of Water into a 15ml Test Bottle of e-Liquid.

And or Try NiChrome 80 verses using Kanthal(s)

firstly i apologize to zoiDman for going in the opposite direction But the first thing i noticed when i looked at your build is that it looks like your wick inside the coils has shrunk, if you havent filled the inside of your coil enough then you will get hotspots, glowing from parts of your coils which will give you a burnt harsh throat hit. I would recommend firing your build without the topcap on and look for glowing coils. Juice it and fire it for the length of time you take a drag, keep doing this untill the wick needs a re-juice.

if this is the case then fill your coil with more cotton and trim the legs of the cotton, they dont need to be as thick, so long as they touch the deck and you give a nice little gap for air to go through the underside of the coil

No Apology Needed. It could well be that More Cotton is the Solution.

I just wanted the Op to Not rule out going the Other Direct with Less Cotton. Because like I said, it is somewhat Counterintuitive sometimes.

Well it can only go one of three ways zoidman :D

at a guess i'd say he has 24g 1/8th id at 0.2ohms, which would make it pretty fast on heat up, just how i like it, but my wicks always look like they are slightly bulged as they exit the ends of the coils, i find you can get away with a slightly tighter wick on these as opposed to lower powered builds, the best way i can describe is to make a cone shape out of your wick and thread it through till it stops then feed it back and forth inside the coil, it should have a little resistance.

It wasnt all that long ago i found out that most of my wicks were a little on the loose side as they exited the ends of the coils, i was under the impression that they were fine and that i was the master wicker untill one day i decided to watch what was happening without the topcap on as i described in my last post, i'd say 75% of my wicks were letting the first and last wraps glow slightly. It also happens when your wick falls away slightly from the roof of the coil at the very ends, under its own weight + juice...

The coil is gunked up fast. I agree with Slip. Need more cotton for those macro coils.

Try more wraps and more cotton.

.5 ohms ? What size kanthal is that?

Nichrome 80 would be lower in ohms. If the OP can't get it on kanthal recommending to go N80 would be a no for me yet.

Cotton should be snugged in that coil while pulling through. But not disturbing the coil. Twist both sides of the wick at the same time to get it through.
