Why don't we see more ego-threaded mods?

ok - one thing missed here is durability, since the provari was dragged in ill start there.
The provari head is one solid lug of SS, there is no way to cleanly mill an EGO connection onto the 510 stem, all the mods that offer 510 as well as ego are pressfit lugs, too much playing and the lug will come loose. this will never happen with the provari, countless stories of snapped 510 stems prove this is a durable reliable connector that will last.

most high end mods do not offer ego as it is hard to imagine paying 200+ for a mech to use a 2 dollar clearo AND by offering a flattop mod with 510 you screw the atty down to the surface of the cap creating a solid stable connection, while yea people will complain "i broke my protank stem" there is never going to be a case of someone saying " i snapped the 510 out of my expensive mech"

so would you prefer stripped threads and/or a loose worn out lug on your 200 dollar provari/mech or replacing a cheap 3 dollar clearo.

Maybe I am just lucky but my EVOD has none of the issues that chadsmo or double_aa_ron mention. I vape my EVOD down to empty and it never gives a dry hit or any gurgling. In fact the last vape of a tank is just like the first one.

On the other hand, while I never tried a carto tank, I have used plain carto's. My luck there was the opposite. I had some that would not do anything straight out of the box, some just poured the juice out as fast as you could fill it (tried back fill and condom type methods) flooding the battery, some worked for a day or two then seemed to clog to the point no air would flow or just quit firing at all, and finally some would occasionally be surprisingly awesome. It was this HORRIBLE consistency that drove me to Vivi Nova's and EVODs to begin with.

I will say that I think the flavor on a carto when I got one that actually worked was probably a bit better than either the Vivi or EVOD, but since I do not yet have a VV battery it could just be a resistance difference.

I do see what you are saying. Maybe a new standard should emerge for larger devices, that is like a 510 only larger and slightly deeper with a more stable threading. Something that would make stems harder to just snap off. Leave the 510 for cig-a-like batteries.

the whole issue is asking for high quality durability from a low cost cheaply made item. not the mod makers problem.
Im not trying to be insulting but you get a high end atty and there is enough steel in the connection this isnt a problem. you dont see people saying " i snapped the stem off my cobra or z atty". its i dented the cap or broke the glass. im not sure what people are expecting with a 5 dollar device, be glad it works maybe?

im not going to deny the ego would make a tough connector, but i cant see the mod makers playing to the part of the community who wont stop using dirt cheap devices. and the last thing a factory in china wants is you only buy one. ask kanger to make a titanium protank base properly machined with enough metal in the stem.

I personally cant understand why anyone would even spend 200+ on a mod to use a clearo or cheap tank. why not spend almost as much for a wicked atty or tank to match the durability and performance?
. again not to be insulting just the way i see it.

That 510 wasn't designed for an RSST, it was designed for a little, narrow atty/cart.

I will agree with you there. I'm all for a new standard, but I don't think that ego threading is the answer. If we switch from 510 to ego then we would just be compromising. It's not a solution when you're just trading one bad design for another.

What type of RB-Tank system would you use on a SVD?

The mod makers should come out with their own line of clearo-tanks.

Some of us don't like the taste of polyfill- and can taste it no matter how well-setup a carto tank may be. Dripping is too much of a chore. All that is left are clearo-tanks. Unfortunately, no one seems to make high-end ones.

While I agree with everything you said (which is why I use EVODs myself), you did leave out one option, and that is the one I was asking about in my previous post....Rebuildable Atomizer Tanks. They are basically a RBA with a tank attached so you don't have to drip. I have not tried one yet b/c they seem like a real PITA.

One of these days, someone will come out with a high-end clearo-tank, or self-feeding, easy to use and re-build- by re-build, I mean unscrew, toss out and screw on a new one- delivery system as you described. Until then, a high-end mod is useless to me.

The problem with 510 connectors is that they were never designed to support the weight of the newer devices. They were designed as a compromise to attach small devices and provide electrical connections.
The eGo connector provides a larger and stronger attachment and can, with very minor changes, separate the functions of mount and electrical connection. With this separation of the functions, it would allow easier improvement of the electrical contacts part.
Look at it this way, When was the last time you used a battery powered device where the battery was held on to the device by the battery contacts?
There is much to be said for a new connection standard but that has not been too much of a success in the past. Remember the Innokin iTaste? That had a new kind of magnetic connector and a lot of people didn't like it.
The greatest strengths in favour of the eGo connector is that it already exists and it is stronger then the alternative 510.

Umm, there are tons of cheap and expensive genesis attys out there that are none of the above. There are also great devices like the Kayfun and Oddy and all their clones too that aren't any of the above.

Though I do kind of look at the terminator as just a fancy evod for lack of a better way to describe it.

So you do have options.

As for 510 not being stable enough, it is if you flush mount stuff that either doesn't need airflow or has good airflow built in. My eBaron Dripper Pro just has a 510 and when it's on my Provari it might as well be one piece of stainless steel, it is super solid. Same thing goes for my Euforia on my Ba Gua , when it's tightened down and sitting flush nothing is moving that. The 510 is fine so long as it's not cheaply made and doesn't need to be backed off for airflow.

Unfortunately I have a fairly strict set of preferences that kind of limits me in my choices. The only thing I know of on the market that I am interested in is the Taifun GT Rebuildable but at about $170 I think I will stick with my EVOD. Just recently someone started making something similar to the Taifun GT (called Fogger) but it is so new there are no reviews yet. It was just listed YESTERDAY on Fasttech for $40 so no reviews there yet either. Perhaps if the reviews are good I might try that one.

Addressing the 'crap devices on crap mods' comment.. not everyone can or wants to buy $150 RBAs on $200 mods... to say to them 'you get what you pay for' is senseless... I know my Vamo and the little RDA on top isn't exactly built like a Bentley, but it works and it fit my vaping budget. I am just looking for reasons why certain aspects of the design aren't being improved when it seems that there are better alternatives available.

I don't want to re-build something. Wrapping coils isn't for me, nor is messing with wicks and mesh. I basically need something like a ProTank 2, but high quality. I'd rather pay a lot more for a quality device, than buy something to meet a price point.

If you don't want to rebuild anything then I think you're pretty much stuck with lower end somewhat crappy stuff unfortunately.

You know rebuilding stuff isn't as big of a hassle as you might think it is, I actually find it fun and rewarding.

chadsmo is right... rebuilding is a lot less difficult than it looks. Granted, the RDA I bought is as easy a build as it comes, but it was a breeze to wrap a coil and mount it on the posts.

I've also rebuild some evod coils as well (vaping a rebuilt evod and rebuilt RDA right now, actually)

yes, people rebuild crappy stuff ;)

While I agree that rebuilding is fun and becomes easy with a bit of practice,

I also find your statement that everything else is crap to be elitist Bull Crap!

The stock tank systems are getting better and better all the time! AND I can still outperform your $200 RBA dripper with a $5 L-Rider LR Atty on an eGo 650 Battery! Vape for vape with the same juice!

To be fair I said 'somewhat crappy' lol.
