I just got into Genesis systems a year after dumping my Lines and a GLV atomizer from a German co-op back then.
I went to hybrid atomizers (HH357 and AMG b/f) for instant gratification, but how can one resist giving them another try, especially if ECF has designated me veteran vaper... and so many are raving about them today.

For one thing I just learned that we don't have to oxidize the heck out of the mesh... check.
But what I don't understand is how to maximize a Geni on a VV or VW since they are regulated for LR and the best vapes are seeming to be coming from the Hybrids or the mechanical mods for geni's (iHybrid, Caravella, etc)?

My iHybrid, with a 3/4 wrap of 28g A1 Kanthal is the best vape I have ever experienced so far, but that coil wouldn't get near my VV-VW devices.
Phil Busardo just posted his Genesis Epiphany vid that explains what I mean; sub 1.5 Ohms on a mechanical device produces such beautiful vaping... I guess you could compare it to driving a high performance yet luxurious sports car to a commuter car.

I see there is a lack of availability for good Genesis-ready mechanical devices ... but I'm looking at my Provari and Vmaxes' like old news here...

I must be missing something and I think I'll go back to I'Getcha's youtubes again to learn how to maximize my Cobra... but for now, I am jonesing for another nice Geni-ready mechanical device.

I almost wish I had never tried a genny... Once I experienced the vape..I just can't look at my carto tanks the same way again. The reason I wish (almost..not quite) that I'd never tried one was now I'm frantic when it isn't right. I can get it going and I'm in heaven but then something seems to go wrong and I lose the awesome vape and then all I can do is try to get it back again! I take off the top cap and dry burn and poke and prode my coils till they all glow evenly again.

I'm losing sleep! If the vape is good, it's so good that I can't stop to go to bed and if the vape isn't good, then I'm obsessed with getting it good agian and I can't go to bed until I do (then I can't put it down to go to bed!). And I'm not even using mech mods! My Zap has been so great and consistant since I got it but my vulcan is on and off. It's great then it's not great and I have to mess with it till it's great again. I'm slowly getting the hang of rolling mesh and coils.

It's funny how mech mods fell out of favor when VV came on the scene and now people are interested in mechs again now that gennys are all the rage. I've got so much tied up in Provari's and I'm afraid if I actually tried a mech mod that I would be even more obsessed so I'm going to stay away from them for now. Plus the zap depleted my vaping budget for um... a while.

Good to see you again. I've still got my Sgt Army tank :)

edit: to use my provari, I try to get my coils 1.5 - 2.0 ohms. Once I master getting my mesh and coils working consistently, then I might try going lower and getting something like a smoktech telescope but then again, I'm kinda afraid to go there ...

I've watched many genny setup videos but I get the best results by doing exactly what Zen does in his zap setup video, even with my vulcan (did clone)

This question kinda pertains to me as well. I do not (nor have I ever) owned a mechanical mod, but now that I've entered the realm of RBAs all I can think of is, "Hmm...I have the money, and EVERYONE who has one loves them. This means I need one now!".

BUT...I can't convince myself to get one for two reasons.

Battery safety and life knowledge.
and
Why do people love them so much!?

I feel these two questions are keeping me from taking the dive into my wallet for a nice mechanical. I've been doing some research, but I also have a VAMO in mind, and because I know what a VAMO can/does do, I feel like it's winning. I also feel like I would be regretful if I bought one without fully knowing about mechanicals though, so my brain is hurting thinking about all of it!

Someone convince me one way or the other!!

there is no doubt that if you are used to a low resistant set-up, you may not want to spend any cash on a vv,vw device. i totally agree with the fact that a low resistant set-up blows away a higher one. for me, i came from the usual attys and carts, then i heard of the vv devices, i said man that goes up to 6 volts, how cool is that, so i bought one before getting into gennys. at first i wanted to get full use out of my provari, so i made coils that could get me up to 5 volts or more, but then i tried a lower resistance and never looked back. got a mechanical mod and really enjoyed the fact that it wasnt regulated. now with the provari v-2 there is a window of great vaping, a 1.1 ohm coil of 28g gets you to the amp limit with wattage pushing 14 watts. now what most dont now is that there is a difference vaping 28g@14 watts with a low res set up compared to vaping 32g@14 watts with a hi res set-up. so i believe in your situation there would only be disapointment in you getting a vv or vw device.

I have a Prvari V2... my Cobra has kind of a short postive post (imo) and that 28g wire is THICK... how many wraps do you think it would need to get above the 1.0 Ohm?
I've got a 4-5 wrap of 30g on it now and it won't allow me on the Provari.
Funny; if the top wire is just hanging, touching the pos. post, it will fire.... but tighten it down, no... ah.. i guess that is because the length of the wire is extended

The real advantage of a mechanical mod is that you can use 28g wires with it. When you get a 28g coil set up it stays stable much longer than a 32g coil set up. It is also far easier to set up a 28g coil. I think that is why people gravitate to the hybrids and mechanical mods. Of course when the battery is fully charged the vape is extremely good...but the battery degrades when vaping, so your first vape and your last won't be the same. Also if you want a mellower vape you can't regulate it in anyway. Also certain juices don't do well with a very low ohm set up. These are some of the reasons people want a regulated device. But with that comes the low ohm barrier. I wonder if there will ever be a vv/vw device with a 0.6ohm cutoff?

i know you are having some good results right now with your new set-ups, especially with the un-ox method and i would definately not change a thing, the most important thing is to stick with what been working and strive to get even better. but with an oxidized method, properly set up, and a low resistant set up with a mechanical mod, there is no comparison to a vape of 32g/2.0 ohm coil @4 to 5 volts. but then again everyones different, and it is just a matter of whether you are willing to put in the time and effort to really make a side by side comparison of both.

yes, mr edo, to me that would be the holy grail. and i have heard of such a device in the winds. there is definately gives and takes with which is available to us at the moment, and to me this is all part of the fun.

The iHybrid has a large working area... tall positive post... yow; love it.

They are simple, they are elegant, self sufficient and they just work! I keep thinking I want one as well, but I don't need one at all!
A lot of people are in love with the simplicity of them, and I respect that. Little to break or go wrong, you just take it apart and fix it! No sending it in to get it re-programmed or what not. As I would if my Provari broke.
BUT, just like the Provari, they aren't for everyone. They have there quirks, and after starting out with just them to use, an Altsmoke BB was huge back in the day compared to cig-alikes, but now I'd be hard pressed to stick with that anymore! In fact I was just talking to my wife tonight that if I get the extra cash I want another Provari and I'll clean out some other mods, the BB included.
Just like everything else, it's never going to be the "end all, beat all" for everyone. Nothing is. It's a matter of what works for you and makes what you want to do work for you.

i have a provari v-2, and use 28g with a 4/5 wrap coming in at about 1.0 to 1.1 ohms, with this set-up you basically are getting all you can from the provari, 3.5 amps & around 14 watts. even though you can get to a lower ohm set-up with the provari, by reducing one wrap and coming in at 0.8 ohms , the power rating would be considerably lower. the 0.8 set up would only come in at about 10 watts. the only down fall to the 4/5 wrap of 28g on the provari is that it is not the most responsive and it does eat up the battery and juice, but in my opinion is the best way to set up a genesis atomizer on the provari v-2(28g/1.1 ohms@3.8volts) but then these resistances depend on the diameter of the wick. if you have a device with a smaller wick hole these set-up's on the provari can be unobtainable.

I just added another wrap; up to 5-6 and on Vari is read .8... then got the E2 at 2.9v setting...
I think i'm using 30g wire here.

i own and always will own both. for the most part i love a 28g/1.1ohm coil @3.8 volts, for the most part my all day set-up, which is obtainable on the provari v-2. but i also from time to time like a 28g/2/3 wrap/ 0.6 ohm coil on a mechanical mod. so i will never get rid of my provari, nor my mechanical mod.

i believe in your instance 28g will not work, your wick diameter is to small. i wouldnt go above 5 wraps, so 30g is the way to go unless you made a wick that is larger in diameter on the top. there is a way to make a wick that has a larger diameter above the wick hole. this does take some time to get the measurements correct before rolling, but does work.

wow... lightbulb

til then what is your recomendation for the Cobra? a 3-4 wrap of 32g and higher voltage?

i have heard of the cobras small wick hole, i dont actually own one, but imo if at all use a thicker wire untill it requires more then 5 wraps. i would try the 30g with a 4/5 wrap and see what resistance that is, if it is still to low i would go to the 32g. if it was me i would do an L-WICK, so i could use a thicker wire, at least i would give it a go to see how it really performs. i have been told that it works and works fine. it really would only take a few more wraps of mesh to make the difference. but being that i dont really know for sure i would hate for you to have spent hours on the measurements and not work to good. i also been wanting to try the inverse wick, fatter on the bottom then the top, to see if it would wick any better, but this might require more time when changing the wick, because you would have to take the tank apart to release the wick

I can't speak for mechanicals, but I have a 5/6 wrap of 30 gauge kanthal on my cobra using my provari. Ohms read exactly 1.5. I think I could definetly fit another wrap or so on there. For my mesh, I am using 43mm high and 80mm wide of #500 mesh.

I believe the lowest I have had, and not really meaning to try, was 1.2 or 1.3 ohms with the provari, but that was with an odysseus.

For all my rebuildables, either silica or mesh, I use the 30 gauge. I like how it is a little more stable and can stand dry burns a little bit more. Also why I just switched from using silver as my nonresistance wire to nickel, the nickel isn't near as fragile, using 32 gauge nicke can make very small connections for the ody and peny.

EDIT: Looking at the cobra I think I could comfortably fit one more wrap if desired, two may be pushing it because then the positive wire connection would be aiming down rather than straight across to the pole.

So I will try to get another wrap on there... say 5-6. I'm afraid that the wraps can't touch each other, correct or not?
