Why hide the e-cig ?

I have seen a few in the city (SF) where I work but far more smokers than vapers in the public eye there.
I have had people pass me when I was vaping on the sidewalk, and (fake) cough loudly the same as they would do to a smoker.
Kind of struck me funny at the time while bringing the reality of media programming of the populace home.
I think many people don't realize what they are actually seeing is 'vapor', and NOT smoke. They are believing what they are told to believe, and casting the vaper in the same light as they have been brainwashed to cast the smoker.
I also believe this is the driving force behind legislation to place vapers in the same areas as smokers, and why it may get the uninformed vote of the sheeple.
It does 'look' a lot like smoking to most uninformed people. I can't blame those that vape from feeling a bit of this public pressure, and keeping it on the 'down low' to avoid confrontation although I think they shouldn't be ashamed of it.
Personally I want to educate those that don't know what they are seeing, and I do, and will continue to vape in public.
It has gotten me to quit smoking. That right there is HUGE!
It needs to become commonplace so that those that don't know about it can learn rather than continue to be spoon fed by politicians, and media into believing it's something that it is not.

I work at a State Prison in PA. Other than the occasional person at work with a cig-a-like, the First person who tried openly vaping was a guy who transferred from another facility in the state, and he had a pretty decent sized e-cig. This person was kind of wierd anyway, and had already made a bad first impression on most of the people there, so that probably didn't help his cause out any to begin with. The management of the facility keep trying to all but prohibit him from bringing his device into the institution.

In the last two weeks since I switched from analogues to mistics, many people have been pretty supportive of me, and my quitting endeavor. I've gone on to try to educate them on the advantages of vaping, explaining the difference between the cig-a-like that I carry into work, and the setup that this person uses, and the advantages and disadvantages of each. I have an EVOD setup on order, but figured I'd keep using the mistic, and buying empty cartos to fill up to take to work since it's much more discrete and people seem less afraid of it.

It seems management wants to prohibit devices they see the liquid in, because they claim there's no way of knowing if, or preventing people from filling them with some kind of pot based stuff, or some other drug. I'm pretty sure this is just their naivety about the whole subject.

Today, I whipped out my mistic, and was shocked to see a different co-worker (who normally smokes analogues like a chimney) whip out his ego setup! We had a nice conversation about vaping, quitting, the hottie at the local vape shop, etc! We'll have to see where this goes.

I do vape in public, but if it's really crowded, I look for an emptier spot to vape. I also don't chain vape outside, just enough to get over the first urge. Indoors I treat it like smoking, because I want to avoid stares and mumbles, or even worse CONFRONTATION! Lol I'm a little weird like that, but generally I don't see the harm in smoking in public unless it's at a place where it's forbidden to even vape.

I pay close attention to "No Smoking" signs. If i see someone smoking i vape, i donno. I like to show that i have quit smoking and would like more people to get into it.
I don't blow huge clouds while i drive, as someone might pull next to me with their window down and might get some of it. Don't want to be rude xD.

The unfamiliar tend to create associations with ......... vaporizers and other illicit drugs more so than cigarettes with large battery mods. If they find you're appearance suspect and see you vaping cops will give you a choice of surrendering your device entirely or holding you in a jail cell until they can perform chemical analysis to prove its not a wax device or a PG/VG solution saturated with ...( unless of course they've caught you doing something actually illegal then they will probably bring you in regardless of surrendering the device...least I would hope.) . They have on scene tests for this but they are expensive and i'm pretty sure they are told to avoid using them if possible. While i'm fairly certain this should be illegal in more ways than one in practice it is not. They expect most people to surrender the devices to avoid the all day hassle. I actually saw a local business owner vaping near my favorite restaurant outside HIS bar get hassled and opted go in and wait for a test. They were so annoyed with him for doing so they proceeded to "catch & release" him again the next day before realizing he wasn't going to fold and what they were doing would look suspicious if they kept it upconsidering they never found anything and finally left him alone. How many people do you know though willing to put up with that level of harassment just to retain their property. Like I said most people must just fold because they certainly seem to expect it. . After witnessing this I try to keep it as inconspicuous as possible and force myself to stand in second hand smoke among cigarette users to keep from looking out of place. I've never had any personal run ins but having witnessed them and being a male with long hair i've decided to take precautionary measures to ensure I don't get bothered while trying to mind my own business and keep it as hidden as possible with out looking like i'm trying to hide anything(create suspicion)... I figure its a matter of time before small town cops catch on and realize that vaping isn't going anywhere but for now like I previously stated the un-familiar seem to associate large mods with illicit drug use more than they do with actual cigarettes. Its taking off in big cities though so this should all smooth over in a few years time when it popularity spreads to more rural areas. Hopefully the opening of our first vape shop in my town last week is the sign of coming change.

Never heard of this, seems like it would be unlawful search and seizure unless they have some kind of probable cause.

I dont know what will change when my fasttech order arrives....if it arrives

I was concerned with this as well (also being a long haired male from Nor Cal) but at least in Sac, I think this trend is dying out a bit; we've got quite a few vape shops open now. More and more I see soccer mom's in their cars with their MVP's; I assume the cops are seeing this too and are realizing not to waste their time. But I still get nervous every time I pass a cop with my mod in hand as I clutch the steering wheel.

I vape openly, but with respect most everywhere I go. If I'm inside I will try to control the clouds and exhale downward in a crowd. If no one is around where I'm vaping I vape normally. At least once, maybe twice a week someone will walk up and ask questions.

A couple of weeks ago I was in Best Buy, had just blown a cloud, and heard a female voice say "Sir!". I looked around and one of the associates was walking toward me. I thought, "Well, this is going to be the first time I'm asked to leave". She wanted to know what flavor I was vaping and where I bought my juice. She was a new vaper and didn't know where to shop for supplies. I gave her a Stormy's Vapor Cellar card and told her how to get there. We talked for a few minutes about hardware and juices and she pumped me for more information.

My wife was always self-conscious when we were out and I was vaping. We went into the local Stormy's B&M one Saturday and the place was packed. She looked around at the clouds of vapor coming from the vapor bar with disbelief. There were at least 30 people milling around like Happy Hour and the sales counter was packed. After that, she realized that there are lots of vapers in town and now she doesn't mind standing next to me in a store as I vape.

I have yet to have anyone tell me I can't vape anywhere I go. Vape on and experience the inquisitiveness that people have for vaping. Most of them want to know where they can get one for a relative who smokes. The rest want to know if you were able to quit by vaping and did you experience withdrawal similar to cold turkey. The answer to the first question is Yes and the answer to the second is No!

My experience has been 100% positive when people approach me.

BTW David P, I like that Gold Top guitar.

Thanks! I took that picture the day it came in from Musicians' Friend. The light was right coming in the upstairs window and I laid it on the carpet and shot it.

You'd never know it was an Epiphone unless you saw the headstock logo. I own three Les Pauls, one Gibson and two Epi's. My favorite is the Epi Custom Flametop.
