iv made many different juices using several different flavors and its always the same result.

iv tried
TFA bubblegum @ 10% (recommended %) 50/50 12mg 1% TFA sweetener
TFA bubblegum @ 8% 50/50 and 70/30 with 1% dweetener and without any sweetener 12mg and 0mg

iv done the same with green apple and butterscotch

no matter what i do its really harsh on my throat and only a very mild (but good) flavor.

its no where near as smooth as store bought liquids i have and very unpleasant to vape.

what should i do o_O ?

iv been trying them in a Kanger Protank and an ERA RBA with a sigelei zmax 3 and a vamo v2 which both work perfect with store bought juice so i think iv ruled out the device.

im using PG and VG from essential depot and 100mg/ml nic from RTSvapes

It could be the PG or VG or the Nicotine. You're going to have test these without flavoring to see.

thats an idea, im not going to try the 100mg nic by itself =P but how could i tell if my pg or vg is bad? obv smoke it straight but what am i looking for?

ok so now im vaping on a 50/50 mis of JUST pg/vg . doesnt taste like anything a little sweet and absolutely no scratchy throat feeling with the biggest longest pulls i can do.

so we can rule out the pg and vg as being the problem?

EDIT: made a 50/50 12mg liquid and the harshness is back. im positive im measuring the parts correctly im using the "e juice me up calculator" iv been vaping 12mg for 6+ months in store bought liquids mostly from mtvaperbaker. is it possible i got a bad batch of nic?

i was under the impression TRSvapes was very reliable?

You found the culprit.

I've heard of some Nicotine being labeled as one strength and measuring another, consider buying a Nicotine Tester.

It probably isn't "bad" it's just harsher than you like. I've had storebought juice that tasted like inhaling black pepper. The nic I have purchased in the past from Wizard Labs was pretty harsh, too. You can use it for pesticide if you really can't stand the taste of it, or go lower in nic with flavors that benefit from harshness [say, recipes that lack TH] or try adding some "smooth" or vape wizard in it.

I emailed Wizard Labs about getting a nic test kit, he said he was waiting on the chemicals to come, they might be back in stock by now. It's worth the $9 to have peace of mind. Good luck!

We can double check your math for you if you like? If you Give us the mls of each component. Are you measuring with a medical syringe?

if you would like to double check the math its 100mg base 12mg target 50/50. 1ml test batch is what i made. .12ml nic + .38ml pg + .5ml vg
pretty basic math lol.

i made a ticket with RTSvapes explaining what i was experiencing and the tests i did to find that the nic was the culprit and they emailed me back promptly saying that they are sorry that this happened and they will be sending me a new batch of nic today free of charge they also mentioned that the hot water steeping is bad because nic hates the heat and that they know that people use the hot water method because it causes the molecules to move around and mix faster but the nic despises hot temperatures and advised me to no longer steep my juices in anything other then a cool dark place. i just thought id pass on that tip.

the response to the ticket was within minutes and 12 mins later i had a tracking number for my new nic. A+ for customer serves for RTSvapes.

and as always thank you all for your helpful responses.

I noticed the same thing as you when I started DIY. All of my mixes were pretty harsh and I couldn't really get a good drag before I started coughing or my throat started hurting. I don't know if it will help in your case but I just went a little lower in nic than what I was use to smoking. I also found out that steeping helps the harshness as well.

I was almost always smoking 6mg nic from my vendors e-liquid but when I make my own juice now, I only do 4mg.
When I steep, I steep it overnight with the cap off and usually wait 2-3 days before I vape it daily.

By doing that, it has helped my juice taste and feel like my vendors juice. Hope this helps for you as it did for me.

great info i'm getting exactly what u described there i wonder if the vendors are actually using less nic then what they state to save money o_O i honestly wouldn't doubt it. i will try using less nic and leaving the cap off for a day and steeping a few additional days i think im going to stay away from the hot water steeping as it could actually be doing more harm then good (to the juice not to me).

i smoke my 12mg juice even unflavored and its terribly unpleasant and then i vape some allegedly 12mg vendor juice and its so smooth, i honestly dont get it lol hopefully this new batch of nic will help too

thinking about it now even if i smoke the vendor juice the day i get it, its already roughly 4 days steeped due to shipping so that's a thought too.

try upping your VG percentage - the nic solution is likely PG based so when you add it to a 50/50 mix you're drowning out the VG and increasing the overall PG content = raspy throat. Happy Vaping!

I am accounting for the fact that the nic is pg based ty tho

I've noticed a substantially harsher throat hit from my DIY's compared to vender bought.

I'm just now getting to tasting my first DIY batches properly steeped a week 1/2 compared to the small samples taken from the batches that I warm water steeped. HUGE difference in harshness. I'm so relieved that my first attempts are actually vapable, tho still a bit harsh for me, still nonetheless tolerable.

I think your on to something with warm water steeping and it contributing to a harsh throat hit. I mean, one of my sample's flat out gave me a sore/scratchy throat the day after vaping it.

I first ordered 36mg PG based nicotine, thinking it would simplify measuring things out because my target nicotine level is 18mg. But my liquids are still a bit too harsh with the throat hit, even after age steeping. So I ordered stronger 60mg VG based nicotine; this should give me more "play room" with VG/PG ratios, especially considering just about all flavor concentrates are PG based and I didn't realize that I couldn't even obtain a 50/50 PG/VG with the nicotine base being too low in concentration and PG based. It shipped out today, I'll be sure to chime back in once I get to taste the results. I'm in the same boat as the OP here...

I started off on Blu's Johnson Creek 100% VG based stuff, and think I just wasn't expecting how harsh a PG heavy liquid with a comfortable 18mg nicotine level can be on my throat. I really think that the warm water steeping does something to the PG and nicotine mixture to amplify this 10x. Seriously, the difference between age steeping and the warm water was night and day as far as a harsh throat hit.
