It's the fumes from that $*&$! UNLEADED GASOLINE!!
Tetraethyl LEAD!!! Now......THERE was a gas additive you could TRUST!!:D
Hell....even the cheapest gas was around 100 octane!!
Engine "knock"???? NO WAY!!!:)
I can remember seeing Sunoco 260 Blend at a station back in the early '60s..... 41 CENTS/gal.!!
And I thought.....Who in their right mind would pay THAT MUCH for a gallon of gas????!!
Give me Jack Benny's Maxwell any day!!!;)
Happy (vaping) Trails!

My first motorized anything was a Taco 44 minibike. I remember filling it up for 7 cents and riding most of the day. I now have a 44 and a 22 fully restored. My wife and I putt around on them at outdoor car shows or when camping.

Yes! A 63 Studebaker Avanti, steel blue, supercharged. My dad won 1st in the nation about 5 times with that car. Sadly, it's was sold about 10 years ago. I remember being 19 and told I MUST come home (Indianapolis at the time) because each kid was responsible for one car in the Indy show being held at the Indy 500 track. I took the Avanti, wouldn't be caught dead in the others because I was too cool for those. They let us drive around the track. Once. You were limited to 45 mph. I punched it. My dad still talks about his knees going out from under him when he realized it was me they were waving the checkered flags at. Sure was a fun car. #rebel

Off track, like the rest of our threads, but Harley-Davidson is making an electric motorcycle

I read about this and while I'll admit being some what intrigued, I think I'll stick to the rumble of my pipes. In a densely populated urban area, electric bikes can be a health hazard. Just too quiet. The rumble of the pipes save lives. No overly loud pipes though, as my wee quick witted Irish wife says when she hears the building shakers, " The poor lad must be compensating for his short comings." I believe this to be quite true although there was a time, but it never applied to me!

I over-compensate with large clouds personally. LOL

I overcompensate my desire to preserve my life. My pipes are loud.

That's cool. I ride by two rules. (1) Air is no protection. (2) Ride as though you are invisible. In my younger days I rode hard and fast on everything from dirt bikes to crotch rockets as well as my Harleys. Luckily, I have never been down hard. (knocks on wood) Now days I mostly cruise or putt. A lot of my partners have been down hard and more than a few are no longer with us. Stay safe and enjoy the ride!
