Certain atties require it in their build. The GG atties (and their clones) like the Odysseus (nautilus/terminator), Penelope (euphoria), Ithaka (Hercules), to name a few, all require non-resistant coil legs to travel down the sides of the atties internals to make contact at the base. Also the eBarron dripper and Killer use it as well, but it's not quite as necessary for those. Most regular drippers, tanks, and genisis atties don't use it at all.

OP asked why. :)

And my answer was because it is required for certain atties, unless you want a 1.5 ohm build in a terminator to be a 3 ohm build that heats up your whole juice tank, not just the coil.

If there was confusion on using nr wire INSTEAD of res wire, that's not the case. The crazy sub-ohm .1 builds are done by using thicker 24-26g wire with dual or quad coils and not many wraps. Using nr wire by itself would essentially be creating an instant short instead of a coil that heats up.

Cjax hit it. To expand a lil. it is used when a coil is a longer distance from the connections. you use the NR wire to span the gap from the coil to the connection. If you used res wire it would get hot in that stretch. With nores wire it dosent get hot and allows you the ability to more the coil away from the contacts. hope that helped
