Being new to the world of vaping, I wouldn't worry too much about mods and the like...that'll just occur naturally or it won't. I don't think it's necessarily about "better"...it's more that it's customized to the individual and better for that particular individual than a stock kit. I.E. it might have more or less vapor...smoother...hotter/colder, etc. Basically it's just fine tuning preferences.

Of course, a lot of people are just gadget people, and they just get into the latest and greatest gadgets and like putting things together and seeing how they work.

Welcome to ECF , and for me , it's because I can afford them , and some of them work better on certain devices , tanks , carto's atty's , etc . Plus , most of the mods or PV's use bigger batteries , so they last longer between charges . But if your device works for you , then just go with it . No real reason to go nuts with your credit card ( unless you want to )

For me, moving to a mod was about battery life, pure and simple. What I was getting on the cigarette look-a-likes was just too short. It was only after I got into a mod that I discovered all the things you can screw onto it and how those things affect vapor, throat hit and flavor. Just vaping crappy tobacco flavors at the start wouldn't have made these things important, but once I discovered fruit flavors and the like (and my taste buds came back) what I was putting my juice into started to matter a lot. As someone mentioned, you'll know when/if you need one and then you'll start to play with everything else out there. If you have a store around you, you'll get hooked in faster as you'll be able to see and feel products and want to take a few home. Good luck and if what you're doing works just stick with it until it doesn't. If you can take a bike to work, a car is pointless. If you need a car, and your commute is long, that upgraded sound system and comfortable bucket seats start to look really tempting :)

Better battery life, variable voltage and/or variable wattage settings, checking atomizer resistance, cooler looking, etc. There's a ton of reasons but these are things that you will develop into naturally as you continue vaping. Eventually a stock eGo may not be enough for you, so you move onto a Lavatube or a Provari(just examples). The more you vape the more you will discover what you want or don't want out of your vaping experience and when(or even IF) the time comes that you want to upgrade, we will always be here for you to help you out on your journey.

One of the most rewarding experiences about vaping to me is being able to help other people save their lives, and I mean that as sincerely as possible.

For me, it really was battery life. I tried out some duel coil carts, and my battery would die before my shift at work ended...not good! I went to a cheap lavatube and really liked being able to adjust the voltage that my old EgO clone didn't offer. Old lavatube broke, bought another and my Vivi Novas wouldn't screw into the threads, so I decided it was time to try a higher end mod. I just started rebuilding, so I felt variable wattage was a really good option, so I ordered a stainless ZMax. It should be here tomorrow, and then hopefully :vapor:!

Looking at the money I have saved, mods are cheap!

So true, especially the part about having a brick and mortar store. I was... okay... with an ego for 2 weeks. At that point being off cigs had saved the same amount as what the ego kit cost me. Then I went into Mr.-E liquid one day to pick up juice/parts and one of the workers let me try his Provari. Such a mistake lol, the vapor was hot and fresh menthol bubblegum, and hit me like a freight train with the DCT on it. I was vaping 18mg nicotine on cartos and clearos and his 5mg had me coughing up a lung like I was gonna OD. I am finding it much easier to drop my nicotine while on an ego I was still having more to crave. Plus I know I am supporting a good company and product and this will last me forever. Batteries are bigger, I can customize my vaping experience easily, all I have to buy is replacement parts, it can be fixed if I break it, it can easily and fairly cheaply be upgraded if they have a new revision come out, etc. Plus I have a frickin' Provari lol, I love it and thought they were cool before and still do.

For me it was multiple reasons.

I wanted longer battery life than what the cigalikes or Volt X2's (ego-sized battery) could provide. With an 18650 mod battery I can go 1-2 days without a battery change. Also, it's far easier to carry extra mod batteries than another ego battery or multiple cigalike batteries. If I so desire, I can go out for the entire day with a mod topped with a large cartotank, and carry an extra battery in a plastic case in my pants pocket (in the off chance that I would need it).

Mods can carry larger juice devices (up to 7ml cartomizer tanks) than an ego or cigalike.

Another reason is a matter of philosophical and economical preference. The cigalikes and ego-type batteries must be considered ultimately as disposable devices. The ego's are only rated for some 250 charges. When the battery dies, or performance declines because of age, the whole unit needs to be replaced. These devices are also not as durable as a mod. Most mods can take a lot more physical hard use/abuse. Many mods can be repaired by the manufacturer should a part break or fail. Cigalikes and egos? Nope, you need a new one.

On the other side of the coin, mods are built to be extremely durable, generally of thick aluminum or steel, with a life expectancy of years compared to only months. Their fit and finish is of a much higher quality. They generally have a much nicer and durable power button. More vaping attachments are manufactured for mods to offer a larger variety to customize your vaping experience.

When a battery is spent on a mod, you simply replace the battery. The batteries that mods use have a longer use between charges and have an overall longer life expectancy of up to an entire year. Less than $10 a piece, they are considerably less expensive than replacing an entire ego.

Several mods have options to add extension sleeves or extender endcaps to allow use of different sized batteries or to add a Kick (micro-processor with a boost circuit to allow variable wattage).

The downside to mods is because of their larger size, many are not particularly pocket-worthy, and are decidely heavier. However, belt holsters or leather lanyards like Serenity Gear makes are available. Most mods are able to easily fit in the ego traveling cases with room for extra batteries and vaping attachments.

Few people will mistaken a mod for a cigarette-looking device, if that is a concern.

Two mods in an ego-style case with x-tra batteries and tanks. Smaller mod in a leather Serenity Gear lanyard. Serenity Gear belt holsters.

i hear a lot of people saying with mods the flavor comes out more. Im one of those people that i love my gadgets and i get this is a bad industry for me to like stuff like that. Only thing with mods they have to be standing up and not concealable like there regular small egos. Im looking maybe to get a GGTS so i can make it either longer with a bigger battery or smaller with a smaller battery. Thank you guys.

One quick note with mods...you get exactly what you pay for. My first lavatube was from Apollo and cost about $60 (can't remember for sure) and came with 2 batteries and a charger. My math was a little more expensive than a couple of EgO twists. It had plastic end caps and was just cheaply made. I drop my mod quite often, and it wasn't long before the top cap kept popping off and the wires eventually broke. I resoldered it several times, but eventually it had just had it. My second lavatube was just too cheap for me to pass up. It was from Aquavapor and cost $50 with 2 batteries, a Vivi Nova (I now have 5) and another charger. It has metal endcaps and Young Juhn(sp?) electronics, but none of my Novas will engage the threads in the tube. I decided to go ahead and buy a quality unit. After looking at the Provari (used) and the ZMax at a local B&M, I chose the ZMax with some advice of the owner who was selling his Porvari and favored the ZMax.

Happy vaping!
